Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Thanks, I am going to give them a call or stop in tomorrow. I rode a 06 Kawi zx6r last year, it was my sisters and she needed a car most of the time so I got my bike license and drove it around while she drove my car. But I was just not comfortable on a rocket, Im only 5'6" 5'7" on a lucky day lol and abit heavy at almost 250. I was not built for rockets lol. I actually was out riding all winter on my new sled, 10 Polaris Dragon 800 Switchback. Fun time, 1000 miles this season, we got some of that up here but not much in the budget in way of traveling far out. But in that I also need a spring-fall thing to keep my stress down lol. Will be great to learn bout these bikes.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
there's a lot of great info on the Bike and some adjustments in the thread thanks to all the members.
I'm 5'7 200lbs and quite comfortable on the bike.
i know there are some decent trails that head all the way to Canada a buddy of mine is a snow mobile and ATV enthusiast, and has property on one of the trails that goes up through NH to Canada.
BTW - I bought mine from the scooterdepot in CA, I think Aboshi got his from countyimports, and Barnone got his from extreme-scooters

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
bckcntrysddr,
I'm up to 400 miles on my bobber and all is well. I've had her up to a real GPS 60 MPH (speedometer is off by about 10%) and she had some left.
But she is far from a high speed vehicle and not a freeway flyer. I would not buy her with the intention of commuting on a high speed interstate. You are taking a 229 CC push rod engine here.
I had to change the main jet to about a 100 from stock 88 to get her running right at higher RPM. Also shimming the needle helped the midrange.
I've only checked MPG once and got about 66 MPG. I fill my bikes with cans in my shop so take my MPG with a grain of salt.
If you get one be ready for a lot of questions.
Be sure and check with your local DMV office like Gordo suggested.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Questions from other people or myself having them? Gas miles will be better then my car which is maybe 30 if Im good and it takes super cause it has a turbo. Not looking for a major highway rider, I take side roads to work so avg tops is 40 but am sure will have cruises north where will need least 55. I am a hour tops from the Kangamangus highway so that could be a fun little cruise.

Gordo:
No they have the worst customer service...
After being on hold for 20+ mins someone answers the phone goes ok I'll look it up for you (takes my order #)
Then goes oh wait Justin helped you I'll connect you to him, mind you Justin never picks up the phone and I dont know why the guy that picked up couldnt have just been like yeah heres your tracking # or oh it hasn't shipped yet. so I left a voice mail for him (I'm sure he gets 100+ a day) Last time I tried to leave a voice mail for him his box was full, anyway he never called me back so I'll have to call again tomorrow and see if I can get some answers. I really hope this is not going to be an issue because I googled their site to see if there are any complaints and I have found quite a few (all these scooter site have plenty of complaints) hopefully they make good and have this bike in transit already (I ordered it on the 3rd) so I should have it no later then the 21st and even that pretty long time to wait. I also hope that once it gets here they don't slack on the MSO, but seeing they never answer the phone can you imagine if you had a warranty issue...
I doubt any f these companies make good on their warranties.
**edit**
I just logged into my account on countyimports and the status finely says shipped but I still don't have a tracking #
I might have more luck just emailing these guys to speed things along.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Well out of the three you guys used, guess ill try scooter depot, know it sounds like they are all the same, but least that website is 1999.00 right now. Either way have to sell a sled first. Hope it all gets situated for you Aboshi.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I'll keep you guys updated on whats going on.
countyimports was $2,295 but they take off $50 for "gas" so it came out to $2,245 shipped
They claim a 1 year warranty on the frame and motor so well see how that all works out if its needed...
I have also heard good thing about countyimports and thats why I used them. I will give them a call again tomorrow if it doesn't update my tracking # within the next 12 hours.
barnone:
I believe these are the same bars you have:
http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...AQ:MOTORS:1123
This is the one I ordered with the 5.6" centers, how do you like them?
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Aboshi, the risers for the bars are smooth and the stock bars have knurls these "ARE NOT KNURLED" not sure if that makes a difference with keeping the bars from slipping.
i'm actually thinking about putting these on the bike http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/Black...ht_1765wt_1165
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Smooth should be fine as long as I clamp them down nice and tight.
I was giong to go with these blinkers myself: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eB...T#ht_768wt_935
I'm not a fan of cornstalks and I usually don't ride with blinkers or mirrors, but thats down in FL up here in NY everything helps lol
The LED blinkers should be very bright and not stick out too much.
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Aboshi,
Those bars look about like the same as the ones on my bike and they fit fine but were a little too narrow and low I think so I am putting some wider and raised ones on the bogger right now. Maybe they will be fine for you and maybe I will go back to them. Will post some photos of the new bars.
Gardo,
Bars did not slip.
The rear turn signals will be tricky to change out since there is not much clearance under the fender. I'm thinking of just putting a bolt in the hole where the rear turn signals attach and going with some led lights back by the tag. The existing rear turn signal are in the way of saddlebags.

Yea see the price now, spaced it last night.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Well Nj Foxtrotted me again. I'm getting told the Bike cannot be registered in this state, and i cant even return the damn thing cause i rode it and tossed the cage.
i will need to go to the state capital and see about getting te bike added to the NJ list even though the company is listed in the NHTAS database. http://www.nhtsa.gov/cars/rules/manufacture/ just type LXD
Or i may end up trying to get it regged in another State like NY and have my mom's husband do it
I'm sooo pissed right now
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Woooo ..... thats not good. Do States have overriding regulatory power even if the machine is registered on all necessary federal databases? You need to send a query in writing to your Federal and Sate reps immediately quoting all the paperwork and databases. And you need to tell the importers/dealers to put the restriction on their website. I would then 'request' that the State office comply and accept federal paperwork for a legally imported, registered and sold machine and the after that, 'demand' a full explanation in writing of their reasons not to do so pointing out you have been caused loss and distress. And as you say, if all else fails, register next door! Good luck mate, you will end up an outlaw like me the way you are going!
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
better an Outlaw than under the thumb of Caged Officials

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Yeah! I try hard to fit in and be socially responsible these days, because of Insurance and the like, but sometimes it just doesn't work. However I have found that carefully and reasonably respectfully putting things in writing, with a note that it is copied to local political members, sometimes does the job on bureaucrats. Just so long as you don't cause resentment, the odd one will go out of their way to assist.

Yea I get you, but its so damned frustrating! I called scooterdepot and they are checking it out was calm and respectful and dropped that I am on a number of forum boards that are discussing the bike They stated that the bike is legal in NJ so I want a notarized statement of fact from them
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
If 'scooterdepot' is really checking it out and not just wanking on you, they would certainly ring and write to the HQ themselves and handle this for you at Sales Management level. Unlikely but you never know, it could be they know the procedure and it certainly affects their sales in what is meant to be a free market. Do you have any sort of Ombudsman' setup in USA to take on these issues on your behalf?
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
That is pretty messed up!
If you are not able to get it regged in your state and scooterdeopt along with every other site claiming 49-50 state legal I would tell them to come pick up their bike immediately or you will start the charge back process Also put it in writing and send it to them certified mail (as well as your CC Co.). This is a very serious issue because you should not have to jump through hoops over and over again and then be told "sorry your shit our of luck" That would be a $2200+ investment for nothing more then a toy you can only play with on your own property "and judging from your video you only have a driveway to play in" When I called scooterdepot and countyimports they STRESS to me I will be able the reg and title the bike in NY. I really hope I don't run into the same issue you are because NY is not nice when it comes to registering anything that has the slightest paperwork/information error.
Countyimports only shipped my bike out yesterday... still no tracking # so I figure I will receive the bike 23rd-25th
So I figure I wont even get the MSO till next month...
Gordo:
If you want you can use my address here in NY to try to reg your bike.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Very messed up, I called my DMV today just briefly for NH they said as long as I have all the right paper work for the MCO then it be fine, but I am going to check again just before I order it to make sure, Ill go down to them with name and make and all the good what not to make sure I dont get a run a round, if so Ill just register the Kawi and steal the plate.
Question are the fenders and tank plastic or metal? Further down the road I would probably customize a different tank anyway and if fenders are plastic I would also make some custome fenders.
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Ok update - I called a titling service and the guy said they can get the bike regged for me, I may have Maine plates for a year but it would be legal if it all goes through.
i will keep you all informed
Aboshi - my Mom lives in Carmel NY so i got an addy to use if need be thx
Nick - and yes i am calling you by your proper name - Its all mettal the only plastic is the mock oil tank and the signal lights
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
that would be awesome if the titling company can get it done for you, I just hope they don't charge you an arm and a leg to get it done. The most I would pay for a service like that is $100

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I didn't ask any questions when she used that company name. Got my tag and papers, paid my money and left. Less said the better off you are when dealing with bureaucrats.
