Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
This may sound stupid... but pull the air cleaner off and just confirm the operation on the manual choke (butterfly to lever position).
I only mention this because most new motorcycles come from the factory calibrated on the LEAN side and you mention a rich condition.
A vacuum leak will make it even more lean. The air induction has NO effect on the performance of the engine, unless it has a vacuum leak.
Its purpose is to continue the exhaust burn inside the exhaust pipe, hence the extra heat. It is an emission thing.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Got it. Went through the manual you sent me and was going to go adjust the carb today, but woke up to freezing ice and snow. I dunno I may still head out to the garage and mess with it. Thanks again for the manual I think it will help a ton! I Think I may have just the bracket for the engine that I picked up from the shop and its already chrome plated.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Also, after reading more of this thread here are some easy fixes.
Broken clutch cable:
http://www.amazon.com/Odyssey-Knarps.../dp/B0017GM1CG
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00...H9RHS2JVCEEQGG
http://www.amazon.com/Tri-Flow-Trifl.../dp/B003UWHNUA
Remove old cable from housing, run some triflow down inside the housing to make it pull smooth as glass. Insert new cable into old housing and run into the clutch mech at the engine. Install cable knarp and take out slack. Cut off remaining cable and its good as new. You can carry these items in your tool roll in case of emergency.
Leaky wheels:
http://www.amazon.com/Stans-No-Tubes...stans+no+tubes
This works best with the wheel removed. Remove valve core, insert 1/4 cup into the valve and re-install valve. Inflate to proper pressure and roll the wheel from side to side to fully coat the inside of the wheel. If you have a leak you will notice some coming out but it will seal itself. This is'nt slime, it's a coagulating latex sealant that we use in high end mountain bikes. This is also self sealing so if you hit a nail no flat! Hope this helps :riding:

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Well Dan if you must know I'd prefer not to give up my secret. But, since it was you that I stole the idea from it's a 1 1/4" chrome plated brass J-pipe from under the bathroom sink (new, unused). Both ends cut off to attach the rubber bracket with hose clamps. I'll get a better pic today and post it. Those pics were under a light in the garage.

Attempted to do the ignition mod today. Well, I found out the bracket isn't an exact fit. Anyone got any help for me? Or, the page that this mod is discussed on?

Tank is ready to go on, at this stage I am running with thundercats decal. The ivory is gloss and the grey is satin. I have included pic of tunnel to show mounts added to make it a direct fit.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Hello? …echo… What happened to this great thread? Seemed to of crawled to a dead stop. I do really appreciate all the work you all put into it and was a wealth of info. Hopefully it will spring back to life soon.
I just purchased a DF Bobber last week and love it. I live in Mpls, Mn, suburbs that is presently frozen and buried in snow so a ride is out of the question till spring. GRRR. I Got a Blue one as I picked up a in-stock bike from a small dealer in Madison. I must say I like it even though looks as if most have the flat black. When I got the bike it ran like crap. It was backfiring thru
The carb so bad it would kill the engine with a puff of white smoke shooting out the carb. Not good! The bike was also filthy upon pickup. Cleaned it up, I tuned the carb up and had it purring yesterday. Replaced the plug with NGK after. Just a back and forth from the idle screw to the air mix screw, looks like it was set way to rich as the plug was foul and black. Haven’t pulled the carb apart yet to see what jets in it but suspect the 88 as it was built Nov 2010. Ordered a 35 t sprocket today. I also replaced the bars, added some bags off ebay. I am planning on going a bit opposite as most in adding more chrome… just to be different I guess. Rubbed the paint out using a fine rubbing compound that really brought out the shine of the clear coat of this stunning shade of blue.
What I couldn’t believe was the wrinkles in the rear fender on both sides almost like it was hand formed, looks like others have the same thing? Maybe all? Other areas are better than expected in fit and finish. Been riding for many years and have 3 other bikes
Yamaha Wr250 R street legal dirt jumper, Honda 250X, and on the other far end a “Huge” almost 1 ton Harley street Glide low rider. I have a heated 4 car garage so winter isn’t so bad. This bike will fill a nice niche as my neighborhood cruiser that I can easily get out of my garage for a brief fun ride. Love the raw sound and the skinny and light simple old school look. It’s great to work on. The gas tank is a very unique shape so hoping to keep it. Fingers crossed. I know it’s dead of winter for some but would love to hear from you guys. Thanks!!! P.S. I will post a pict, as soon as possible.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Congrats on you purchase.I have over 7500 miles on mine, and she purrs like a Tiger. I have had a few things on it go souht o,but nothiong I couldn't work out.I posted them in the past on this thread. as for the stand still yeah..it is that time of the year..some folks have so much bad weather, can't ride. i can though, I did not the last couple days, a bit too fridged fro me but I will tomorrow. keep us posted on any mods you do, we all like this ride, and anything you dao could be an interesting idea fo any of us.I will be looking into a set of extra fog/headlamps after christam, as I want more light out front.I am also gonna get some of the led's to put around the motor for night riding. Next is a new tail light,I really do not like the stock light, and I removed the turn signals to mount a bracket for my bags, so i need to get a tail light that has both and the plate light. Happy riding when you can.

Made this axle mount license plate bracket with a nice piece of stainless steel and the factory light and plate bracket. Then painted them both gloss black. And, welcome Goodbar I just got my bike 2 or so weeks ago. Liking the color of your bike!

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Thanks Bowtie! The fog lamp Idea I like. I havent messed with the headlite yet but it looks weak at best. Mine dims on revs also so I will sort that out first. I am excited to do some mods on this canvas. But like it as is. I just replaced the handle bar hex screws with grade 8 as my originals looked pretty stripped out. My seat is covered for now but need a cool leather seat.
I am amazed you have 7500 miles so soon. Is the engine broke in yet ? LOL/ Bet it runs smooth as silk now. What size carb jet do you have in it? and I cant seem to find the exact source or stock numbers for the 105 jet. I know its posted in here somewhere but I cant find it

Just got the new mirrors and installed them. I like the mirror but I dont like the way they sit in the factory mounts so I just ordered some new clamps to re-locate them in a little and closer to the grips. Also, just ordered the new rear blinkers. Getting the jets and 35t sprocket this weekend. Just took the bike for it's first REAL ride as it's been raining for 4 days here and this is the first day it's been sunny and dry. Even though it was 39 degrees I couldn't resist going for a ride as I just got my plates on Friday.

The ram works pretty good and I think it does something for the looks of the bike.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I know its a lot of work but a side view of the bracket and how it is attached would be awsome.
It really cleans up the look for sure. Mirrors look good also. I dont mind riding in the cold but we have hard packed ice on the roads from that last storm or I would be out there now. Are your fenders wrinked at side ends also? WTF. Its strange because the paint work is really nice.
I got my plates no problem here in MN, but the insurance underwriter is scratching his head right now.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I think the fenders are knocked out in a wok factory
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Yeah my fenders are the same. It's because they were stamped not formed. I'm heading out on it now but when I get a minute I'll post some more detailed pics of the plate bracket.

Double welcome! Daylight savings time slowed me down for awhile. I did some riding after work, can't really see to ride/drive in the dark anymore, lol . Now that it is cooler, I'm sure a lot of us will be working on the bikes and asking more questions.

Big Thanks for the welcome Alleykat, Yep gets dark before most get done with work. here its 5 degrees... so enjoy that warmer Texas weather while you think about us arctic hibernators. To show how dumb I am, I sold my snowmobile today, the only toy I could of ridden this weekend. Bad timing. I do hope this thread Barnone started keeps going. I am sure there going to sell plenty of DF bobbers yet.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Goodbar, where did you get that seat cover from? And yeah my fender has the wrinkles on it as yours. Doesnt bother me.
Havent done any really big mods to mine because I want to pay it off and break it in first. Dont yet have 600m on it yet. I can still ride since I am in TX and some days are actually warm here still but we just now got our first cold front and Im feeling it. Too cold for me right now.
Glad to see this tread is at least still alive. Im starting to save info and pics off of here for future reference.
