Pereill - I did a ton of research on half helmets before I bought any and I ended up buying 2, a non DOT beanie from Skull Crush Gear and a DOT from Vega. All the reviews I read said the Vega was the lowest profile DOT but it still gives you shroom head. The Skull Crush is the one I wear daily and it's super low profile, 0 shroom head. I ran across photos of a guy who was wearing one when he wrecked and he had a couple stitches above his eyebrow and a little juice stain on the helmet rim but his grape and helmet were intact. Don't know the details of the wreck but it looked like the brain bucket did it's job. Although most of the reviews of the Skull Crush say there's no wind lift on helmet, I do find it rides up a bit if the chin strap isn't really tight. In the end I disliked the Vega shroom head so much that I'm returning it for a 3/4 Bell Custom so I'll have the option to go either beanie or 3/4.
Which bolts did you loose so I can make sure I check mine?
Gardo - I think I might hold off until I am up that way on the 19th. That way I wont have to worry about shipping and what not. You going to be at Weaver's the 19th?
sdm - Yeah I have had trouble finding a good helmet so may have to go non DOT for summer and my full face for winter months. I lost one screw on the exhaust heat shield, but got a new exhaust that I will wrap so that doesnt matter. Lost both bolts on the battery box but I believe they rolled off the bed of my truck when I was working on the bike and I just forgot about them... Just make sure whenever you take a bolt off to use BLUE (removable) loctite when tightening them back up. I just lost my bolts because I took the bike apart so many times and was careless in tightening everything back up.
Anyone know when 2012 models will be out? Looking to pick up a CCW Heist within a month from a flyboy motorcycles in canoga park, Ca.
Ok Heist Fans did 250 miles today on the bike for a grand total of over 3600 miles on the Widow since I put her together.
I left work a bit early today and had a few things to do then I went down to see tom @ WeaverRides. Fun lil adventure leaving NYC to get there.
Leaving NY over the GWB and onto I80 i hit a pot hole, damn thing was more a crater, which bounced me off the bike to the point I nearly lost it and laid her down. Luckily I managed to get under control and kept riding :riding:. Now the rest of the trip was fairly boring and the bike was handling pretty good.
From I80 I jumped on I95 south, the NJ Turnpike of doom. i was doing better than keeping up with traffic I was passing some of these folks by like nothing Riding along side some of the big rigs and getting by them, wow the turbulence is fun NOT:eek2:! took me 2 hrs to get down there, now thats over 100 miles with a stop for fuel and a drink for me.
When I got to the shop I noticed my rear rim was bent and a bit twisted from hitting the pothole :hellfire:. It was soooo bad that Tom needed to replace the whole wheel. I sat down and had a beer. While imbibing i reflected on how lucky I was.
Tom had a lil surprise for me, a New 16T front sprocket.
After the bike got all fixed up and I did a few test rides to feel out the new front sprocket and wheel. i hung out for another hour or so then suited up for my 100+ mile ride home.
When i tested the bike back at the shop it felt good, you could wind through the gears longer. When i hit the highway and the interstate fifth gear was like an overdrive. the bike handled better no high end high pitch whine going over 70, she sounded better ran better and I didnt have to throttle her out to get some of the faster speeds. Doesnt move like a one lunger, doesn't sound like a one lunger, but still is a one lunger.
the trip back was nice and boring with a lot of people showing their appreciation for the bike and i made it home in less than 2 hours.
...and in short...
For an interstate capable and comfortable ride without over revving the bike, here are the 4 mods that you will need
1. Milled head ported and polished
2. Bigger effin Carb and jets
3. Custom pipe
4. new gearing (sprocket)
.... and an ass made of iron and back of steel :lol8:
thats my tail. there is some video but not sure when i will get that posted.
Hey fellow heist soldiers,
Wow it has been awhile since i have been able to get online and reply or catch up with the thread. Lots of great things going on, I love hearing all of it! I went to a Quaker Steak and Lube bike night in columbus on weds and what a good time!! The heist was a hit as well. All sorts of questions and comments. A custom LED SLED guy loved it and rant and raved about how sweet the little girl was!!! Wore my CCW shirt with pride and even had Ohio Thunderrolls Magazine take pics and inquire as well.
MK how is the new head and carb working now? being from ohio I may have to hit you up when i get mine! LOL I was on the phone with the dream yesterday afternoon getting price quotes for things. ( paint and chop job as well as head and carb upgrade)
Gardo so sorry to hear about the rim man! that sucks! Sounds like the widow keeps mutating into an animal from the deadly spider. LOL I spoke with Tom yesterday obvioulsy just before you arrived. I got quotes for the upgrades and even painting/chopping. I was wondering if you could take some time to snap some pics of your fender chop and send to me because I love the fact you still have one but the look of not! Also if you could snap some pics of what ya did to eliminate the EPA stuff and breather s@#$. I am planning on stripping it off this weekend. I also am hoping to disconnect kickstand kill and put on white grips!
I cant believe how great the CCW world is fellas.... keep it up and keep... "painting your canvas'"
Keep on riding on!
Hey guys,
Got the exhaust straight pipe bracket welded up and the new turn signals hooked up. I started on the hitch mounted carrier but it's alot of cutting and welding so will take me a few days (whenever I get another day to do it). But if any of you feel like donating a camera, then I will take some pictures :icon10:
The other upcoming mods include wrapping exhaust, kickstart, new electronics tin, updated carb, removing EPA nonsense, and moving rear turn sigs/brake light and chopping rear fender. A bunch of ideas more than that but it will be a long process due to work and school.
Got about 400 miles on the bike so far but can't wait to finally meet Weaver and maybe Gardo if he can make it out there :naughty: and get to talk about the bike and what can/needs to be done.
What up Heisters?! Ok, I'd like to drop my idle down just a bit from where it is. It doesn't idle too high (I've got no tach so I don't know what it is exactly) but I'd like it a bit lower. Problem is, when I lower it it dies at stops and when down shifting more than 1 gear. Will slipping a washer under the needle help and if so where's this mystery needle? I've never been great with carbs. Can anyone point me to the carb pdf?
