Thanks Scootdog
I think the next 3 things I want to pdo to my scoot is change the lights, all metal LEDs for the directionals, fork gaiters (but I'm having a damned time finding the right pair), and grips. I want a set of red old school grips and the Jammers are too wide
Also wanted to share this out http://www.pitmotorsltd.com/service/...ist-valves.pdf
Need to keep researching but what other ideas have you guys come up with to personalize the bike
Nice link Gardo. Well the bike will be out of commission for a few weeks as I am headed to Vegas tomorow and then up towards Weaver after that, but won't be able to take the bike with me. Hopefully I will be getting some great info from Weaver and Gardo (if he can manage to survive the night before :naughty: )
Gardo, as you know my personalizing has gone from new turn sigs, straight pipe exhaust, 1 gallon compressor tank electronics tin. But some ideas are chopping fender, pinstriping, but you have done most of the more common things. Let me know what you come up with. Hopefully see you next week.
Take it easy guys
Kevin - You're the only guy I've seen paint his tins himself. Do you have a write-up or would you be willing to do one on how you did it? I'm toying with the idea of painting mine a candy red but I have 0 paint experience outside of watertowers and brick walls :icon10:.
I actually just painted my fender a few weeks ago. Wanted it to match the dark color of the gas tank.

If you've never painted before do some internet research. It's easy if you have done some painting before, and have some basic knowledge. I sprayed Autoair paints through an airbrush. On the tank I used Spraymax 2K Clear, a 2-part clear in a can. It's gas resistant. You can also use it over some rattlecan color.
Read up on prepping parts for paint. The prep is the key.
You can paint your tins in one day start to finish. I spent about 6-8 hours on the tank. Can't remember, but I started sanding mid-morning and by dinner the clear was done. If I'd done the fender as well it wouldn't have added much time to the total. It goes quick if you work assembly line style. While one is drying spray the next etc.
The water based Autoair colors really require no drying time. Spray light coats and hit with a heat gun. You can actually see the water evaporate right out. I did 3 light coats and 2 slightly heavier of each Autoair color. Heat gunning between coats.
My tank went down like this:
- Sand it all down 600-800 grit, knock the gloss off or paint won't stick
- Clean with mineral spirits
- Spray white sealer over the whole tank
- Spray Metallic Silver base over the whole tank
- Tape the thin lines for the design (silver lines on my tank)
- Mask off area outside the graphic (anywhere not green)
- Spray Electric Green
- Spray Transparent Black over the Green using a homemade fish scale mask
- Spray transparent sealer over the graphic
- Remove masking from rest of tank
- Mask off the Green graphic
- Spray Transparent Black mixed with Hot Rod White over the whole tank
- Spray Hot Rod White over whole tank (this is a transparent rainbow flake)
- Remove the masking
- Remove the tape for the thin lines
Time for Clear:
- Spray a light light dust coat
- Wait 10 mins
- Spray another dust coat
- Wait 10 mins
- Spray 3 heavy wet coats waiting 20 minutes between

Kevin great write up thx.
Did my 7th oil change on the bike 20km shy of 6000km been doing a lot of interstate running lately and the bike is holding strong with the new Head, Carb and sprocket. No high pitch whine at higher speeds 80+ mph the bike is throatier and runs strong

Ok because I have been asked to put a video up on the chain adjustment
Did better than 100 miles yesterday to go and hang out with a bunch of folks I haven't seen in a while. left from upstate NY about 8pm and got caught in a major down pour on my way home. had to pull off and sit under an overpass for 40 min before I said screw it. Nothing scarier than riding in the rain except riding in the dark and the rain on nothing but interstate. But the bike and i made it home safe and strong (i do not recommend riding in the rain at all) if not but a bit soaked and road weary.
I spent a few checking and adjusting the bike
ride Safe folks
Went over to PIT today and dropped the bike off for the Weave. Going to have the first service done, a little tune and Tom will go over the whole bike. I'm getting some new bars installed, they look like Biltwell Windows but Tom's going to make them, plus we're going to lift the tank a bit. He's also welding me up a smaller dia exhaust so I can install a BCT Baffle in it. He said with the new pipe I should be able to put a functional kick-start on there woohoo!
I also got to ride one of the bikes with the ported/decked head and the loud as hell exhaust. Holy shit that thing is fast!! I couldn't believe how much more torque I felt, it just felt like a totally different bike, it actually had some balls to it.
Welcome to my world JK3, good to see your still around. I will be hittin the shop on Friday got some riding in and I'mat 6300km or just 80 miles shy of hitting 4000miles on the Widow. She's running strong still. Definitely want to get some ring in wit you and Matt, the other NJ heist rider in Butler.
Cant wait to see what the finished product will look like
