thats one of the main reasons that i bought it in the middle of winter. Hopefully the paperwork will be done by spring. Veronica @ saferwholesale said:

It is not the actual paperwork that is required to be submitted for registration. I have requested that paperwork from the manufacturer on your behalf. Once it arrives to my office, I will process it, and mail it out to you immediately. "
So, hopefully not too long.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Hey guys!
I've been reading this thread for days, I'm extremely interested in this bike. A couple of days ago someone told me about the ccw tha heist. Which bike is better and which would be a better buy?I've been eyeing this model for a while
http://www.scooterdepot.us/250cc-ape...kes-p-731.html
Has anyone heard anything about the new model?

Welcome from Illinois Crelow, The bike is lookin good!
I noticed that your bike has black headlight, bullet turn signals and speedomoter like mine. Quite a few others have chrome light, speedomoter and signals. i prefer chrome but black will work i guess.
If anyone here has these parts in chrome and want to sell them, pm me about it.

Hello and welcome,
I believe that Tha Heist and the dongfang bobber have the same 229cc china made engine.
The bike that you linked is a newer released version of the one talked about in this thread. It was mentioned on page 267 a couple weeks ago. Go for it and buy one. Then post pics of it here.

Welcome.. as mentioned by freezerboy, tha heist is roughly the same ride. I for one think that although it is a cool bike...I went with the Df based on cost. I love my ride, and have put about 8,000 miles on it with little to no issues.
The one you posted is a fresh stlye, and very cool...but again to me, the cost being what it is I would have again selected the original version of the DF and modified it to fit my taste..which is what I am currently doing, as are many on here.Yeah the cost may be incrued over time to mdo it,..but it becomes your canvas and represents you 100% instead of an out of the box completion. Not saying you cannot add to the new styles, just saying my choices.
I have delt with Scooter Depot on two seperate occasions and have had excellent dealings with them... good luck in your endeavor, and choose wisely...this ride should be all about YOU.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Thanks everyone! I really enjoy the vibe in the thread. My plan on making this bike my own was to add the springer forks to it. A set of forks like that would probably cost me the same than to pay the extra $500 for the new model. My vision for this bike is an old ww2 bomber feel with the flat army green, light brown seat and saddle bags, and either a pin-up on the tank or the old school shark face that all the planes used to have.
-
I like the shark face idea

Hey freezerboy,
It's what came on the bike so I'm rolling with it. But unfotuneately it mirrors are garbage. And the left side mount clutch broke off completely. So it may be the first mod on the bike. Because I have to see what's coming behind me. Hopefully I will have a little time to ride tomorrow. I leave for DC and will not return for a month. I know of this great salvage yard in Maryland that carry bikes may e I can get a few things from there.

My threads on the aluminum clutch lever assembly housing stripped out. Is that what happened to yours? Wish I had your riding weather here :-)

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
The aluminum clutch lever assembly it self cracked. Ill see if I remember to take a picture of it if I remember. Yea the weathers nice but right now it's raining. So lets see what tomorrow brings?

As for my clutch lever problem, I got some steel inserts of the same size thread as trhe housing originals that im putting in after I drill and retap both holes. I should be able to crank it on the handlebar halfway tight after that.
BTW, Thanks everybody who replied about my request for chrome turn signals, headlight and speedometer. I picked some up so i no longer need them.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Welcome Crelow, I like really like your Black turns and Headlite looks good with the blue. Strange how they are all a bit diff.
Bet the Clutch lever was damaged and pre cracked in shipping to the US before you got it.
Any early Honda from the 70s lever housing is about the same and should work. But that does not help with all the switches. Id order a new one while your away.
Ive done a few simple Farkle mods is all lately. I found a nice fitting chrome fork center screw cover that came in a 2 pack for yamaha side fork bolts that fit the center Bolt perfect. My buddie used the other one on his DF. I Made a polished aluim exhaust insert for the inside of tip
( I dont really know if I like the chrome look on the inside of the exhaust that much though) installed my grips, helmet lock, and a few minor other things. Ill post pics and more info later. I did install my high speed jet changed out the 88 for a 105, damm that made my bike run good. Im going to throw in a 45 idle jet in next and see if it warms up a bit quicker, too cold blooded yet. Revs super smooth now after re-tweaking the carb idle and air mix screw. Still love working on this simple bike.
Anyhow glad you joined the DF crew Crelow!

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I guess the perch is seperate, dahhh. The bolt holes of a old honda perch should match perfect.
I just got an exhaust heat sink finned ring from a old 72 honda rebel and the manifold bolts are spaced the same as an example. I will install it asap.

Did your buddy swap his jet out too, or did his carb have a better stock one? My bike runs premo the way it is. BTW, does your buddy bike have chrome or black headlight, etc? I wonder if they went to black from chrome on the DECEMBER models when they changed the carb jet??
-
Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
His has blacked out Tail lite and turn sigs and speedo. Its a DEC 2010 build His also had the 105 bigger main jet so we only had to unclog his idle jet as his bike would not start.
Mine was a Nov build with Chrome everything but it had the smaller jet of 88 so I put in a 105. Is yours a Dec or Nov build? Also the Dec Builds have a large triangular plate welded in above the fake oil tank on his frame. he also had a front fork brake oil line bracket on his fork, mine did not so I made one. Let us know.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Here are a few new photos of dress up stuff for the DF. The chrome exhaust insert and the chrome frame cover and the seat bracket chrome is made from 1/32 thick soft aluiminum I got from innovative hobbiy supply. It can be polished with rubbing compound/ washed with soap and hot water/ cut to shape and then bent just by finger pressure and then mounted with 3M outdoor mounting tape. The stuff looks pretty amazing. I will post the stock number of the sheet supply when I find it. They also sell a adhesive backed ez chrome kit for plastic parts that is way thinner, this is not that but
about 1/32 thick and so soft it cuts with just a scissors like butter and polishes to a chrome finish. One can get pretty creative here. The Fork bolt cover kit is made by Star and is for Yamahas. I havent installed the exhaust piece yet as I dont know if I like the way it looks? Attachment 10128Attachment 10129Attachment 10130Attachment 10131Attachment 10132

I probably attach some kind of chrome latch to keep the lid on. I did not see a triangular plate above my fake oil tank however my build was in december. I do have a funky bracket on the front brake line that im considering removing.

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
Well as far as the mirror. It's mounted, but the mirrors Sucks. I hope while in Maryland I can pickup a late model handlebars with everything attached. If not ill piece it little by little. But thanks on the suggestions on what to look for that really helps out now when I go to the junk yard. I'll have to make a list.
Last night I arrived home late from shooting a quince with my son. I told him to get dressed down so we can work on the bike. Gas is drained from carb and battery disconnected.

I like the can idea and want to something similar. Have you considered sring pins mounted on the inside? Attachment 10140

Re: Dong Fang DF 250 RTB Bobber Information
I was going to ask about the side mount license plate but I neglected to look back a few pages and check out the swell pictures of that custom bracket.

The can that im using is second from smallest in the four can set and is roughly the same dimensions as the plastic can that im replacing. My bro works at john deere and said that he could pick me up some free chrome latch/fastener from work for it. I appreciate the pin tip mod idea, and I will consider it possibly also.
BTW, the cans are made out of tin and come from china. All were in pretty good shape except for the largest one which had a small ding. I will store nuts and bolts and various hardware in the other 3 cans that i dont use for this project. The seller does not recommend putting your food directly in them without a liner and does not know what kind of metal they are. he just knows that they are not aluminum. He sells them for decorative purposes only. Im not planning on eating anything from them so no prob for me. May high in lead.

The mirrors on mine were also complete junk. Even the $6 ebay replacement mirrors I bought are better and stay where I put them. I have the older version of the bike (Dec 2010) but I do like the mods they did with the newer B version. I especially like the better seat and the front springs. Bigger gas tank is also nice. Not sure if not having a front finder is legal in TX though. I dont think it is. I prefer a front fender, that's just me.
Oddly they did not address the #1 weakness of the bike, the thin weak shift linkage rod. Luckily though there are aftermarket rods that are better and I have one as a spare. Seems to be the first thing to break on these bikes.
I am happy to say I paid mine off so I feel good about that. Thank God for income tax returns. Had my bike for almost a year now and still have not put 600m on it. Will remedy that this summer. Only other thing that happened is I broke the damn weak battery connector wire. Thing was rusty and broke if you look at it wrong. Easy fix though. Strip the wire and put another head on it and crimp it on. Luckily I had enough slack on the wire to do that. Since it's paid off now I hope to add some mods to it this year. Better tool bag and a side bag will probably come first. Maybe some grips that handle the vibration better as well.

Been working a little ot lately, so home and fun projects are not coming along too fast right now. I think that im going to spray aerosol rubberized coating spray by rustolium or something similar to that on the interior to help preserve the metal and keep electronics dry. i will post pics hopefully next week.
