Well, I rode on the Great Wall, too
Just wanted to share that, being inspired by billeuze and his thread here: http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/sh...the-great-wall
We found nearly the same place to mount the Wall. (although, looking at the pictures, it seems we found a different spot than him)
Here's my write-up below about my friend Gordon (incidentally this was his first time to see the Great Wall at all) and me making the trip from Beijing.
We heard rumors of a place where one could ride onto the Wall itself. we got an early start out of Beijing and made it to Hebei Province by 10am.

Then we found the road that takes us to the "secret path."

The "secret path" was a bit muddy in places.

I want to remind everyone in Beijing that if you want to come ride, let me know! I guess I could post up here more often, but I never got much interest in posted rides, so I kinda gave up on them. PM me and add my wechat... I usually get out every weekend, or every other weekend...

Great pictures good job on the route to the wall on street tyres.

The wall is in pretty rough condition outside of the tourist areas. Well, you got to see the "real" great wall. The easy way too, by motorcycle. When the wife and I came to Beijing, to see the real wall we hiked out the wall until we felt as if we would die. Can't wait to make it to Beijing to ride. I am thinking about heading down and just staying in a tent on random farmers farms.

Doesn't one ever get a little bored of creating arguments over a forum. Seems like every post I read has the same usual people trying to have a dig at each other. What's been said before has been said, everyone should get over it because life is a bit more important that just arguing the t*ss of no real argument. nuff said :icon10:

Well done man,
Seeing your pictures has inspired me to go out and do the same.
Since your stories, i've now got 2 good rides to do.. the caves, and this wall trip.
I don't want to rope you in to do either of them again, i'm sure you don't want to do them twice. Although if you are up for the wall trip again, or if anyone else is up for it. Let me know.

To be honest, the caves trip wasn't that great of a ride... I don't think I'd be inclined to do that again... Most of the roads, namely the G109, had so much traffic that either you play the game of leap-frog passing to make it interesting or you cherish your life and die of boredom in the drawl of typical China-driver-scenic-pace-plus-random-dangerous-annoyance-and-stupidity. Obviously, we did the leap-frog passing method, but it still sucked.
The ride to the Wall was more interesting in that we got to experience some nice twisties, some dusty and less traveled mountain roads, some dirt roads and muddy roads all within about 50 kilometers. That's what motorcycles are all about. but, we had to slab out on the G6 to get there in relatively heavy traffic. I think it's worth it and I would do it again... and probably would like to find a more interesting way back home than the expressway (hint hint)

Let's ride, dude... I'm sure you've forgotten more rides around Beijing than I know. My method is pretty simple: I look for squiggly lines on a map and head there... but it's not always fool-proof. I'm often delighted, and nearly as often not quite impressed. It would be nice to have an old hand in the mix as I'm still quite a newbie here, relatively speaking :)
