Making a database of Chinese engines

I don`t know where to put this, but I am wondering if we could use our knowledge base to make some sort of database, cataloging Chinese engines and their relation to Japanese big four engines.

Me thinks this new Honda XR300E engine is made in China maybe the whole bike? :confused1:

The rumor is this is destined for the south American budget market, and will be made there.

It could be made in China for export only later. I doubt it will ever be registrable in China as of the costs of registration of anything over 250cc. The extra 49cc will cost around 5000 RMB extra on the road. :bs:

Might be less confusing if you used the actual displacement and cylinder configuration of the engine to describe it. eg CMX/CB250N 234cc twin.

Interesting bike. If it's not made in China, it certainly could be. I think the Japanese and Chinese manufacturers are going at it hot and heavy in the developing nations. There's A LOT at stake there and it should be pretty fierce.

This info is not easily available so I think it would be good to have a knowledge base. Then if someone asks about a Zongshen Sierra 200GY we could say `20 hp, uses Yamaha parts`

Something like the wiki format would be good for managing all the cross referencing. A Chinese bike wiki would be very handy, and probably a little chaotic.... just like the industry :icon10:.

the Zongshen 250-5 (the vtwin) is the yamah virago...

The engine in my Jialing JH 150GY-2 appears to be very closely related to the CFR150. Same bore and stroke, etc., but a different tranny, of course.
It would be fun to build a fire-breathing[relatively speaking]195cc or 230cc motor out of aftermarket CFR150 stuff, but at the end of the day,
it would be cheaper to just drop in a 200cc replacement engine. The pushrod 200 would match the stock carb and pipe well[maybe up on the main jet
one or two sizes]and make for a nice torquey set-up. It's the close ratio 5-speed tranny that limits these sm. China-motors and good low-speed torque
would make for the best street bike. It would allow for a smooth start while pulling some high gear ratiios[to keep the revs down at cruise].
