Before changing my exhaust for the Xian Racing universal can I drilled some holes in the back and put the cap back on after widening the outlet in it.

It became a lot louder. I suppose you could cut the end off but you may find you have to remove a lot of the internal bits that will be left without the support provided by that back metal wall. (The one I drilled).
If it shorten the muffler and remove all the internals will it still be safe to run the engine with that limited back pressure? I did drill the holes but it didnt make too much of a difference. a little at idle but thats about it
anyone?
AF,
What are you hoping to achieve by shortening the muffler? These engine do need some backpressure in the system and if you free it up too much you may find it impossible to tune your fuel/air mixture properly.
It may be easier and cheaper to get an aftermarket.

Just wanting to make it really loud, If i cut the end off, about 2" will that hallow out the entire thing?
The stainless end cap had to be opened a bit to let out the gases from the aditional holes I made.
ok im just wanting to know if i cut off 2-4"s will i have to remove all the metal internal ribbing or will it state intact? has anyone cut these apart yet
I think most of the internal baffle system will fall out as the rear wall supports them. I think they call it "de-gutting" the system.
ok has anyone cut one apart? what about someone that already replaced the factory one can they cut it open for us
I gutted the "cat" portion on mine along with removing the rear cap and drilling 8 new holes around the center outlet. Much louder and quicker too. I now have a full system that I will be installing in the next day or two so I won't be running the modified stock part anymore.
Got pics? :mwink:

I'll take some over the weekend if possible, either way I'll get some up. I'm about to install a pro circuit t4 full system for a drz/klx 125. Already test fit it, just need to make a bracket since the provided mounting tab falls short of one of the factory mounting pints and overshoots the other.
Getting the "cat" portion out was a major pain in the butt with the tools I had on hand at the time. It deforms, stretches and collapses in it's efforts to stay in place, trouble is you can't stop once you've started or you'll end up with next to no flow through the muffler. I knew I was replacing the thing so I laid it on it's side and went to work on it, if I were keeping it I would have used a vice :) It got kind of scuffed, nothing a little flat paint wouldn't fix mind you.
hi i have cut my standard exhaust on a pioneer pulse adreniline 125 took bottom baffle out let top plate in and welded it back together it back fire sometimes but is great inprovement in sound and acceleration sounds nice
How long did it take you to do the work? Did it save any weight?

it took a round an hour on the exhaust the verylast at the bottom weld i grinded round it the baffler doesnt go right the way through its bou 4 to 5 inch long pulled it out then welded end bk on alot better air flow its like a restricter it saved some weight it does make a lot of diffrence in performance thou the only problem i got nw is im trying to set me mixture screw and idle its doin my head in trying get it right correct me if im wrong screw clock wise makes more rich anticlock wise makes it lean
