Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
Bought this bike in a crate, no warranty and cheap. Assembled and on the raod but in the 2 weeks on the road:
One bolt fell out of left hand switch assembly and lost.
Radiator hose popped off in traffic, clouds of steam and very embarrasing. Looks like the hose clip was never put on for the hose connected to the left radiator. Nice.
Side stand spring fell off and lost.
Bike seems top have power but very low gearing so low top end.
Moral of story, if you buy in crate make sure to check every nut, bolt clip spring etc.
Thinking about altering gear ratios.
oh yes, does anyone know type pressures or at least guestimate?

Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
DJ,
Pics will go a long way in helping us know what kind of bike you're dealing with. All the problems you mentioned are pretty standard for bargain crated Chinese bikes but it's still unfortunate you've had so many crazy problems with it. Did you get it registered okay? Where are you riding it?
When you say "type pressures" do you mean tire pressures?

Sorry that was a typo. I do need the Tyre pressures. See pic of the bike:

Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
Whoever sold it has to have a users manual somewhere. Every bike produced in the known world has one...:icon10:
Until then you could use these figures from a bike with same size wheels/tyres and similar weight:
Front: 2.25 bar (33 psi)
Rear: 2.25 bar (33 psi) Increase to 2.5 bar (36 psi) with passenger.

Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
Further issues:
Speedo reads all over the place.
Starter solenoid failed - had to replace after getting advice from another thred in this forum (thanks guys).
Main headlights failed - replaced two bulbs.
Wiring failed on indicators (rain water in the connector blocks). Still dodgey.
Exhaust box rattles and buzzes, rivets are all loose and something inside rattles.
There is lots of noise from around the chain and front sprocket even though all seems tight. still not sure wher this is coming from.
Now I find that the two lugs on the rear engine mounts are cracked and broken so will need to get the frame welded. (Never been off-road or jumped speed humps or any other reason for this kind of damage on the frame.
In all I'm starting to lose faith!:)
Any ideas on the frame would be welcome. Is it likely a design fault? Do you think its worth getting welded or will it just break again?
Happy new year all.

I have one of these I bikes I also bought mine a create, its and 09, and I had the same problem as you with the rear engine mounts and I then found that the bottom engine mount spacing is no good, there is a gap between the mount and engine so even if it is locked up the engine can still move, so I undid the mount and put enough washers to fill the gap and locked it up solving the problem, I also had a rattle in my exhaust, it is the Spark arrester it restricts the air flow coming out the exhaust so it is a restricted, I drilled out the rivets and took the spark arrester out, though be sure to make sure the bolt that holds the exhaust is always tight, I didn’t and lost my exhaust, I now have another one on that is much louder and barks more :D, as for gear ratios and top end, I ordered a bigger sprocket which should give me less accelerate and more top end but I found that it didn’t accelerate any slower, and I have managed to get 70MPH out of it, which I think isn't bad as standard it should only do 55MPH (90KMH), also my Speedo has died all I get now it the blue light lighting it up, I took it apart and found that there is a capacitor that is too big for the casing and what they did was allow it to stick out the circuit board far enough to bend it over which then broke off, I also have the same problem with bulbs, i have changed the head light assemble as the original vibrates well, the bulbs live longer but over time the solder melts causing connection loss the bulb receives too much power, which is why they blow I am going to fit a voltage regulator which should stop them from blowing, as for indicators I have changed them all round as I didn't like what was on there. I have also had a problem off some of the blocks in the wiring starting to corrode but with the new headlight assembly less water can get to the wires as it all pulls closer to the stem, but I just spray WD40 to get them clean. Also a good idea would be to keep and eye on the stud and nut that hold the carb on, or change them to bolts as I found that they can loose, I was out when one of the studs feel out at the time I didn’t realise what it was, so I ended up pushing the bike home for at least a mile on a hot day, you don’t want that :D. Also my throtle cable broke it corroded at the top end fortuantly I was able to get me and the bike picked up. I have found that with this bike that after you get through the problems at the start they are very good bikes, I ride mine 50 miles to college and back everyday and it is running well.

Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
Damien,
Good job digging into the bike. 50 mile round trip is a good distance for a 125. How many miles total on the bike now?

Well I cant be 100% sure as the speedo is dead, I have been going to college for 12 weeks so thats 3000 miles just for college I most likely have done in the region of 5k or 6k as I ride loads, I really do love the bike.

Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
Thanks for all your help. I'll definately check out the lower engine mnount. I thought the movement was by design but the washer idea sounds good. Did you weld up the top mounting ? I'm going to tackle the exhaust this weekend so the spark arrestor has got to go!
I also want to put a new front sprocket on. Can you tell me what part you ordered? Is is a honda part or other?
Strarting to gain more faith after what you said :)

I haven't had the rear engine mounts welded up yet but the engine is solid in place, yea all you have to do for the exhaust is drill out the rivets and pull it apart take to bit out n rivet it back together. I can't remember what front sprocket I bought as all I did was take it off and take it to my local bike shop they took measurements of it all and ordered in a 13 tooth sprocket

Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
Thanks again. Guess my weekends all planned now!. Cant wait to try a bigger sprocket as driving on A roads in UK is tough at 40MPH.
Appreciate your help. Would have been stuck without it.

Hey bud, how did you get on this weekend,
you wouldn't happen to know what brake pads are needed for this bike I gotta get new ones?

Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
Thanks for the help. I got a washer in place and mount is now much tighter. Real hassle getting the rivets out of the exhaust can tho. They are steel and loose so tend to spin when drilling out. I went through 2 hss drill bits on the first 8 rivets. I got some tungsten bits now so more happy drilling this weeekend. What rivets did you use to put it back together? the holes look larger than the 5mm I thought they were.
I've not done brakes yet so can't help you there. sorry.
on the sprocket, did you npotice a part number or any other markings on it? My local bike shop guys checked their JTsprockets catalogue and couldn't find a match They're baffled.
-
Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
I just replaced then with stainless steel rivets the same size that came out, for brakes I simply took em out and went to my bike shop and they matched them up, as for the sprockets when I took it into the shop the took the measurements of the middle where the spline goes and matched it as close as possible to one out of their books, I can't remember if the was any names of the sprocket on there

Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
Tungsten drill bits sorted those pesky rivets. Got the can open and rebuilt nice and tight now. No more bad vibes.
Still trying to match up a sprocket but got to get one now as bike running ok now with tighter mopunts and exhaust can.
Bad news tho, left mirror mount broke off the clutch lever mount. I hardly touched the thing so looks like the cast allow just gave up. Yet another part to try and match up. I guess a seperate bracket with the right size hole for the bolt will do.
Got to re-allign the back wheel as well I can hear the brake pads catching the disc. This bike is high maintenance, are all chiona bikes like this?

The mantra with these bargain bikes is: "loctite, loctite, loctite, spring washers, spring washers, spring washers."
And the motto is: 'Keep your nuts tight". But not soooo tight that you shear them off!
But our Chinese buddies are learning. Not a single loose nut on my Huoniao HN125-8 eBay bike-in-a-box. All the major nuts and bolts had been fitted with shakeproof washers and a red coloured Chinese version of loctite. I still do a weekly allround check for looseness, mind.
Always (and I mean ALWAYS) treat everywhere (especailly all connectors, switches and the rats nest in the headlamp) with ACF-50 from the time the bike has been asssembled out of the box. You only neeed the thinest of film and so a 1 litre bottle should last fora few years. WD-40 is fine for water displacement, but don't let it get that far. Prevention better than cure, right! :naughty:
Oh, and lest forgotten, pack the dreaded sidestand switch with ACF-50 grease. Job done. :icon10:

my son has exactly same bike and same problem with throtle cable with corrosion-did you manage to source new cable `cant seem to find anyone dealing in spares in uk

Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
And now the latest, broke down on the way to work. Bike would not run without choke even when warm through. Just managed to scrape home. Turns out the petrol cap washer is torn and seems perished. Bits n the fuel filter. Stripped and cleaned out tank, tap and carb. Found lots of bits in the tank and a little dust in the float bowl. Cleared the pilot jet through.
What a nightmare to work on. Getting the carb out is a puzzle as so little space between engine and frame. finally all b ack now and running ok.
Still looking for a 14 tooth front sprocket.

I am struggling like you would not beleive to source a rear sprocket for this bike ( Mikilon M96 125-B ) I can find a front sprocket – strangely enough it the exact same one that is on the Yamasaki 125 , I have an 12 tooth front at the mo ( going to 15 ) but want to drop the rear sprocket down to a 42 tooth – the only thing I can think of at the moment is to get a blank made up and that could be pretty expensive so if you could give me the name of the place that you got your sprocket from or the make and model of the sprocket that is identical to the Mikilon one I would be eternally gratefull .
Thanks

Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
I eventually wrote to jt sprockets and got a catalogue from them (they just wanted my address and sent it over). I matched the front sprocketspec and got a 14 tooth. Warning though, the clearance in the sprocket cover is too small to take it and I had to modify the cover. (Read - Hack most of it away). I have not chased the rear sprocket as the ride has changed. I now have more top end but the start from stand grabs as I think the gearing is now to high. Anyway the JT sprockets catalogue has loads of rear sprockets and if you go through that you might be able to match up the rears sprocket. When i get time i will tak a look as well as it may be better to keep the small 12 tooth original front sprocket and get a smaller rear sprocket. At least no need to hack the sprocket cover then. I am currently in the market for a new fron sprocket cover.

Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
Hi there guys
I have been the owner of a mikilon 125 sb for about 9 months now and the thing is truely awful , i would give you a sit rep but it would take to long for me to type out all of its faults .
The one i am most interested in though it the massive vibration that is coming from the engine , this is so bad that it has vibrated on of my exhaust manifold bolts loose whilst riding and snapped it clean in two , so i have treid to drill and tap it out ( with no joy - all i have now is a sheared bolt and a tap stuck in my engine block )
what i am asking is does anyone know of a place that i can get engine spares from - namely a new head unit so i can get rid of this one with the bolt stuck in it ?
cheers guys for all your help previously ( without you i wouldve gone insane by now )

Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
Hey da beard, these bikes can be a b***h but got mine to a reasonable runnng state and its ok. Quite like it sometimes but don't know if I can trust it. They do vibrate some, but could be you have the engine mount issue that Damien2010 in this thread helped me with. The top engine mounts crack and the bottom engine mount willl not tighten properly unles you can get some spacers in between the engine and the mount. One test is once you have got the spacers ion and tightened the engine mount, test the chain tension. If the engine moves at all then the engine mount is not holding the motor in place. I had this and the motor threatens to shake itself to bits.
Dont know how you can get the tap out of the head but a machine shop might be able to get it out for you.

Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
Hi guys, sorry to jump into your thread but im looking to buy one of these bikes as they look cool and are cheap.
Im going to buy mine assembled tho not in a crate but i will still check it all over.
If i was to loctite everything and sort out the problems that you've all been having, the bike should be plesant aslong as i keep ontop of it. My dads a mechanic so he dont mind getting his hands dirty also im good at mechanics myself so i would do most of the work myself.
-
Re: Mikilon m96 125SB 2008
And now the sorry end to the saga. Just got most of the bike working except kept blowing headlight bulbs. Rear brake master cylinder leaking so regular top ups and bleeding. Aligning the rear wheel a pain i the arse. Never got rid of the horrible vibration even after fixing the engine mount problem. But now the finale, bike was stolen from outside my place of work. Hardly difficult I guess as the steering locks are very primitive. Never thought the theives would bother so there's a warning for everyone.
Quite annoying after so much work and I did like the look and sound of the bike. I gave in and "sold out" getting myself a used honda xr125 for reliable work transport, but still want to try a Chinese motard project again. looking at the zennco 125 but so far cannot see an in crate on for sale in UK.
Allee Oop!
