What route you going to take? I would suggest going by Lugu Hu if you can! That will make the ride MUCH more interesting than going to Panzhihua.
Also, get in touch with DHFox. He's in Chengdu and has a CJ.

I just done the trip, by car unfortunatly, took about 8 hours one way. Would love to do on a CJ, but 2 weeks too long for beeing absent.
Hey! very interesed, but i think i'd only give it some serious thought if it could be done in 1 week or less. will likely be impossible to get 2 weeks off work.
the trip is only about 1000km right? why such a long time?
One week or less would be fine with me as well...meet on a Friday evening in Chengdu and start on Saturday morning. One week should be possible, if the CJ dont have serious break down. Max 9 days and everybody back to work...
I need to back in KMG by 20.03. either before, or the week after.
The Expressway road throgh Yibin was 850km, so the route through Panzihua will be over 1000km, more scenic over Lugu Lake, Lijiang and Dali more like 1500km!

I need to be more specific. With my CJ Fleet I drive with 4 Friends from Nanchang to Chengdu during CNY. After that i like to drive them with other people to Kunming. If somebody only have 1 Week or 10 Days also fine, i´m flexible. Personally i dedicate this year to Bikeriding and enjoy to have Company. The Year Plan is ride the Bikes from Kunming to Lhasa. Then Lhasa - Lhasa and then Lhasa Chengdu. They are new Bikes 32 hp with some adjustmets.
That sounds like a lot of fun, wish I had a sidecar license, unfortunately I only have a C1E. Very nice of you to make such a generous offer.

One week should be plenty of time to go Lugu, Lijiang and Dali. As soon as you're in Lijiang, the roads are all excellent. Most of the roads on that route will be quite good except for some sections between Chengdu and Lugu...but even those may have been cleared up by now.

Oha, yes 500 RMB a Day/Bike is a generous offer. Is more about the Fun then the Money. We drive from Guilin to Kunming, since some Riders already join in want to spend more time in this Area

of corse, Ladys always welcome, especially when they have a chinese driving License. In the Moment we fixed a date from 13.02 - 21.02. In the Moment more people are interested in then i have Bikes, but let me give it 2 more weeks then who signed in fixed rides. For the flexible ones we could do a Kunming - Kunming Loop end of March to Vietnamese Border.

That part is to be recommended for the ones how want to see whats in their Porsches and Lambos, instead of poosing around in the congested Kunming! The Passat can run on cruise control with 160. yangtsepete and I are on the road for the second day of the Shanghai to Nanchang part of the bike movement. Yestarday we road to HangZhou via some great roads(amazing), so today we are off early to Huang Shan. Ride photos will start to come in when we are in front of a real computer... posting by mobile phone at the moment!:riding:
okay, boys and girls after 300+ km through mountain passes and roads less traveled we moved west from HangZhou to an area just within the the JiangXi province, at a truckers resturant in a 15rmb a night double room...:eek2::thumbsup: So tomorrow on to more :riding: to NanChung.
Weather today comfy but grey and overcast so not too many photos, maybe tomorrow will be more photogenic.

I'm interested in your ride, if you don't get enough takers coming through... I've nothing planned specifically for the CNY, and have a mate who owned a CJ750 for a number years going back 10 or so years ago around Ningbo. I'm sure he'll be a starter... Let me know ASAP by PM too, so I can make the arrangements to fly into Chengdu (from Ningbo). Hell I'd even be up for riding from here to there on my 1100, if it wasn't so friggin cold up here... as for time to spare, I can book out as much time as I want... so your call :naughty:
I know a Travelagent in Chengdu, they do also chinese "D" License, and if your Visa is valid for more than 30 Days,the License will be valid for 6 Years, Cost you 300 USD, is official from the Vehicle Department

I am planning to go do Kunming-Chengdu in 4 or 5 days. I prefer camping over sleeping in hostels.
