Q-Link XF-200 Broken Piece -- Pictures -- Need Help

I just got a 3 year old QLink XF200 with 24 miles on it, but many of the screws were very loose so I did a full tightening around the bike. Then, when tightening this particular screw the screw head broke free from the screw thread.

When I pulled the screw out it had a spring held in place by a center rod from the screw head. This obviously created a major issue when making the screw hollow on the threaded part by sacrificing the strength of the screw.

I used a little American engineering to duct tape this screw back on, and the bike worked fine, as nobody I have talked to can figure out what the hell a flimsy screw on that part of the engine actually does. Does anyone have a clue as to:

A) What damage this could have done to the bike?
B) What this screw part actually does?
C) How I can either fix or replace the part?

Not sure what would make the cam chain tensioner kick out like that. Remove the part, take it to your local Suzuki dealer and see if they can match up one to a DR200 or 125. It should be fairly common... either way, it's not safe to ride as is.

Also, don't over-tighten all the screws. Especially where steel screws meet aluminum threads. You probably over tightened and stripped the threads out.

I just called a Suzuki shop and they quoted one at 65 dollars.

Looks like a slightly different design...

You need to remove that completely and you need a new gasket for it, its a plunger that presses against a cam tensioner. It may only need to be reset and it will have to be removed to do that. It should be fully open and then reinstalled and turned once until you hear one click and that’s it.
Be careful not to drop anything into the housing, tightening random bolt on the engine is bad….they all have torque settings.
It’s a plunger with a spring and I think it has a nylon tip, it presses a against a device that keeps tension on the cam chain. Be careful make sure you get all the parts out! I do not think that tensioner can be adjusted only cleaned and reset it has to come completely off to do that.
I could be wrong but I am fairly sure that is how it should be done.

It’s reverse threaded you unscrewed it.
It should be taken off to reset it, take it off and get a gasket for it first, put it back together (without tension) and then put it back on assembled , then turn the bolt head counter clockwise until it clicks only once (tensioned).
Verify this with a mechanic when you buy the gasket. Both style are automatic tensioners; I believe but different designs.

You will never get the screw back in attached, it will just spin the plunger. You need to reattach it and tighten it, then turning it counter clockwise will tension it. Does that make sense? You unscrewed it you did not over tighten it. That bolt screws into the plunger, when tight it then tensions the plunger by turning it counter clockwise. Only one click.
I do not think you damaged it….do you? If so then get a new one.
