Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
Hey guys,
I also asked this in my introduction thread but figured more people would end up reading it if i posted it as a new thread here.
I'm leaving Quzhou for Shanghai tomorrow, and will spend a few days there before going back to Beijing.
Whilst i was there, i thought i'd take a look at some bikes and helmets, so i could perhaps compare with Beijing..
In particular, i wanted to see that Qingqi bike everyone was suggesting i get, so i was wondering where i could find a Qingqi dealer in Shanghai? Also, is that 250cc model out yet?
My practicing in Quzhou didn't get very far as both the people who were teaching me had to leave town, so i wouldn't be able to test-ride anything (i don't even have a license).. so i guess it'd be more a case of sitting in them and seeing if i felt comfortable or not.
Also, if anyone in Beijing or Shanghai would like to give me some riding lessons i'd be very appreciative :)
I don't plan on purchasing the bike until i find the right one, i'm in no rush and need to save up money for it anyway.. plus it's a bit too cold now in Beijing, but the aim is for around March or April..
Will try to get my license and everything sorted before then!
Thanks in advance for any advise you guys may have! :)

Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
Hi Ekki,
For helmets, this thread talks about a couple of places you might want to check out:
http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/sh...ll=1#post17123
I'm fairly new to shanghai so can't confirm if these places are any good.
If you're still here tuesday or wednesday and want to try a Galaxy XTR250 with motard wheels you're always welcome over! I've no problem teaching you to drive if you want too.

Nice looking bike. Vibrates a bit though don't it?

Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
Dear Ekkicore,
not sure about where to see the Qingqi models, but there are several places to buy helmets and other equipment.
Shanghai Qiyi Motorcycle Accessories Ltd 上海骑翼摩托车用品有限公司
虹口区汶水路513号 or possibly 虹口区汶水东路513号
http://www.qiyi.cc/
+86 130 6268 8803
Wang (王) Simon (俺云)
Dragon Rider Motorcycle Gear
2632 Wuzhong Lu 吴中路 2632号
Metro Line 10 to Hangzhong Lu station 地铁10号线航中路站,出口沿吴中路向西前行200米即到本店
http://www.lqsmoto.com/
+86 21 5447 7217
(Nolan N103 helmet for 2100 rmb)
Then of course there is Jiaoji Lu.
cheers

Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
What's jiaoji lu, is that the big motorbike parts market? I'm interested too.
-
Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
That's the place -- 交暨路. It's maybe 100m from Xincun Lu Station (新村路站) on the No.7 Metro line up in Putuo District.
Group outing? I have time tomorrow, probably not on Wednesday (brew day!), and Thursday or Friday is good.
cheers
-
Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
Woooo - fun day! You going to let Ekki on your beloved JH600 mate? Maybe just to sit on for pics?!
-
Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
thanks everyone for your suggestions and offers! I DOWN!! :):)
I don't mind going up to Suzhou and i'm free pretty much all week, haven't booked my flight back to Beijing yet! the weather got a bit colder today though..
also, I've written that Galaxy on my list of considerations now :)
-
Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
Unfortunately, the Jialing is garaged till I get this bloody shank out of my shoulder, probably in the next fortnight. Plenty of women do ride bikes this big, but it's tall and heavy and I'd not recommend it for a newb!
Ekki, all the places I've listed are here in Shanghai -- Qiyi up in Zhabei, Dragon Rider out west of Xuhui on the No.10 Metro and Jiaoji Lu up in Putuo. Yeah, cold as hell today, for Shanghai. Bring your woolens.
cheers

Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
oh i meant i'd be down for going to see Felix to take up his offer, as that appears to be where he is?
Even the Zhongshen was a bit big and intimidating for me, doubt i'd want to get onto yours on my own, though it does look nice!
perhaps we could all go check out these shops together or something?
i'm pretty centrally located, on Yan'an at my friends place, and as i said, i've got nothing but time so it's totally up to you guys :)

Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
felix is a ***special case***, with three wheels in suzhou and two here in Shanghai, if you catch my drift. maybe all five here soon, if the brakes on the CJ permit. he does need to update his profile...
felix, motokai, milton, others? a group shopping spree with Ekkicore?
Speaking of helmets, I'm keen to have a look at the Scorpion EXO-900 modular. I've seen a lot of these in Taobao (not sure if shanzhai or real), but don't know if it's in any stores.
cheers

Is that supposed to be naughty?
There i updated my location. I'm gonna have to accept that i'm in shanghai now...
Trip to the bike market sounds great and all but unlike all you tossers i have a job, so unless it's open til like 8 or 9 i'm out.
On the same note Ekki you're more than welcome to come try out the XTR250 but it's gotta be in the evening after i get off work, which is preferable anyway so you can drive around without worrying about the police. Tuesday's actually not good for me anymore but wednesday or after is no problem!
-
Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
seems like the shops close around 7:30pm :(
wednesday evening would be awesome, if you're cool with that!
btw i have a job too, but it just involves listening to music and sleeping all morning.. :D
-
Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
Right for the shops i'm out but i'm sure some of the other guys here would be happy to go.
For the bike tomorrow should be fine, i'll send you my number and we can organise it like that.
You're job sounds like a pretty good deal, but frankly i can't complain about mine either!

Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
I can see why you need a smaller, lower bike Ekki ... you are on tippy toes and it looks like you need about 100 mm lower at least ...:dirtbike:

1) a sidestand -- nice trick with gravity there
2) a rider!

Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
And the mirrors? I hope it was 'photoshop' and not a mishap.

actually, it wasn't so bad when stationary, i could ALMOST flatfoot.. but i think in this pic i was trying to push Ben forward with the engine off to a place where he could stand up on his own without a kickstand..
you don't wanna know what happened to the kickstand..
:D

it was a good night last night.
i overcame my fear of the clutch a bit more (i.e: my death grip on the clutch actually loosened up a bit)
Felix was super patient with me and had me riding in circles around the empty carpark (next to a police station!!) in first gear; practicing riding straight and trying to go a bit faster and get into 2nd gear; and also slow figure-of-eights around his gloves..
he ran out of cigarettes and managed to listen to me yabber on for over an hour as well before he spoke up!
:riding:
Felix is, without a doubt, a stellar person
there was definitely a big difference on the zhongshen compared to the galaxy, in terms of confidence.
with the bigger tires on the zhongshen, it was a bit TOO tall, especially with the fatter / wider seat it meant that it shortened my reach to the ground even more..
being able to almost flatfoot on the galaxy (and having a quality teacher!) definitely made me feel a lot more comfortable..
i feel i made some improvement last night!
-
Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
Thats really cool, and good onya Felix. 'Stellar' is acceptable but SQUEEZEL is pushing it!
In fact most people find slow riding in circles the most difficult to master so well done. You tend to look down in front of the bike instead of ahead where you are going, thus the front wheel starts to wobble and you over correct then slow too much or speed up from nerves. And if you are me at that point you grab the clutch and forget to let go of the throttle ... screaming engine, wobbling bike - whoops there goes the kickstand, lol.

that actually did happen to me at one point, and it scared the :terd outta me! i don't really remember what happened or how i handled it but i didn't fall off and all was good.
Felix laughed!
the circles around the parking lot weren't particularly small so i didn't find it too daunting once i was less afraid of the clutch, kinda felt like i was riding a powerful electric bicycle!
:dirtbike:
can't wait to try again!! can't wait to get my own bike!! :)
when does this 250cc qingqi get released, damnit!!!

Re: Qingqi and Helmets in Shanghai?
I am mixed up….what city are you in?
Beijing Fengsu Motorcycle Supermarket is located No 33 Zhongtan Village, Dongxiaokou Town. The south of Tiantongyan. You take by the subway No 5 or No 13 and get off the LIshui Bridge and get there.
