Good time to say thanks to KrazyKarl and our other admins
Yes, it's been a messy start of the year in our little nuthouse with all the piss and venom and snakes and bots and interlopers and dickheads that seemed to have marched in. (I tend to experience cognitive dissonance when encountering the word "anal" in a motorcycle forum -- though that word does come to mind when I think of ChinaV tidying up his garage:lol8:).
So whoever has been busy sweeping out all the smut and slime, I'll venture that I'm speaking for a lot of us in expressing my gratitude.
So who are our admins anyway, besides KrazyKarl and Jape?
Take a bow, guys! We bow down to you all!:bowdown::bowdown:
thanks for keeping this a nice family forum (of misfits)!

Re: Good time to say thanks to KrazyKarl and our other admins
Are you a robot? :lol8:
Last night there was a really nasty Asian porn bot that quickly made 7 very explicit posts :eekers:. It was a difficult decision for me as a mod to delete Asian porn. :lol8:
Cheers!
ChinaV
Re: Good time to say thanks to KrazyKarl and our other admins
Yes, that Asian porn thingie :jerkoff:was the proximate catalyst for my "anal" comments.
So, ChinaV, you clearly self-identifying as another of our sagacious and respected moderators. I bow to you!
Re: Good time to say thanks to KrazyKarl and our other admins
Bloody time zones! I missed it. For the sake of consistency and site security I think you had better send me the links so I can double check.
The ones that don't have links are strange, but best to be sure I think, despite a few amusing conversations and even a couple of burgeoning love affairs.
Thanks also go to our members that 'report' suspect posts to us. I am convinced the bots are getting more intelligent, they start to make sense, or as much as some of us here do normally anyway, so either they will soon have sentience and we will legally have to include them in the 'human' race, or someone will discover where in Florida they are hiding the chained up and tormented humans they use to get them in.
Re: Good time to say thanks to KrazyKarl and our other admins
Yeah thanks a lot to all you guys for taking the time to keep this forum under control. We sincerely appreciate the effort!
Regarding the friendly pornbots, is it really necessary to zap them? Can we not make an exception if the content is truly outstanding?

I guess we could petition CC for you to be appointed moderator with the duty of sole judge, arbiter and murderer of pornbots that suffer from not being outstanding? Would you accept the onerous task? Can female pornbots be 'outstanding' or does it require male attributes? Would you be outstanding while performing your duties, or would you wilt under the stress?
There are further considerations of ethical import. Would Beatriz have matured from female bot to female pornbot if I hadn't killed her for what I admit now were personal reasons? These considerations can weigh heavily on the soul, I am glad we have such a doughty crew of members to hang out with, else we would be scewed.
Re: Good time to say thanks to KrazyKarl and our other admins
Thanks from Motokai as well.
After posts like handjob (from euphonius) and xxx (from Milton) last night i clicked on blowjob (removed) thinking I'd get some info on air filters or exhaust mods, but found - you wouldn't believe it if I told you! I was never so offended!! :hellfire:
Here's to 2011 and a clean garage! (Felix, please park your toys outside!) :foff:
Re: Good time to say thanks to KrazyKarl and our other admins
Well I'm pretty broad-minded but just had to delete another one of those, mainly because they make me feel rather inadequate. I get the feeling this forum may be targeted recently and that there is a human component to it.
Re: Good time to say thanks to KrazyKarl and our other admins
Looks like our "scew you" brother was among the casualties. Good riddance.
So if there is a human dimension of this targeting, would the idea (i think it was felix's) of requiring a Captcha-style confirmation for new joiners not work?
Hope it's not becoming too much of a pain.
cheers
Re: Good time to say thanks to KrazyKarl and our other admins
You read my mind, felix asked about this too a couple of days back and despite the humour we can find, it can be serious so I have just a short while ago asked CC his thoughts about this. I am sure he will let us know! Mods can't alter that level of stuff, it is site owner admin only of course.
I am pretty sure 'Mike' was a bot or an account set-up for later use. And Beatriz! Either way, if real they can try again. We do have ISP address reporting and blocking tools and so on and may have to look further into the security in general but as I said, that is up to 'hermano Carlos el loco'.
At the moment, sitting inside from rain covering half the Continent, watching the tragedy of flash floods drowning people a 1000km away in Qland, tearing houses to shreds, I have plenty of time on my hands. A bit crook so only short rides and can't do much on the property, so it isn't a pain at all, quite the opposite.
There are a few good 'captcha' type methods for use with VBulletin including custom questions - but they do only stop robots, not people, from setting up the accounts. It may be an idea to look at a further email confirmation process. Just the way of the world today.
The porn is another thing again, those posts have explicit photographs and many links, also videos ... I have actually followed few links carefully to see where they go, nowhere you can't get with a couple of Google searches and clicks anyway. you have to be careful, because html and code is allowed in posts you can get hidden scripts that take you off somewhere on mouse-over, not just a click you intended! Mainly they offer short videos to get you excited/interested but then want you to sign up. That is a choice for people, easily available away from the forum, so it is not a question about whether they should really be removed as soon as noticed and reported, despite jokes!!! The true risk is the phishing and keylogging software hidden when you get a prompts that you need latest Flash player or other software update. It can be confusing if you have more than one tab open. I always suggest one does not follow ANY such prompt first time you get it at least. If genuine, it will come back on another occasion and you may then Google the official company site and ask or download from there. Anyway, getting slightly off topic but I am reading up on this stuff at the moment.
Re: Good time to say thanks to KrazyKarl and our other admins
Dear Jape,
Interesting, and certainly not off topic since I launched the thread to thank the administrator and moderators for their fine efforts to keep this forum healthy.
It's certainly a legitimate concern.
At the turn of the year, the founder and administrator of my awesome hometown motorcycling forum, North Bay Sport Riders, pulled the plug on the site after 8 years and a quarter million posts by 900+ members, saying it had grown to be far too much work and had long since drifted from its founding intentions. The straw that broke the camel's back was a thread on whether we Californians should be allowed to carry concealed weapons, and it got really ugly -- a big pissup about handguns in a motorcycle forum! Typical, but inexcusable anyway. I hated to see NBSR go, but i completely understood his logic and decision. "I make a nice forum and allow you all in, and you start pissing and shitting on my carpet, leaving me with the reputation for hosting a crappy forum. Go find somewhere else to defecate."
So this MCM forum is all the more important to me now. Let's all do our best to keep it legit and safe and, to the greatest extent possible, focused on our affection for Chinabikes and for riding in China.
Thank again!
Jeff
Re: Good time to say thanks to KrazyKarl and our other admins
Yes, you are correct in all you say. Forums are strange things, we make friends, and sometimes enemies, and no-one has any real idea how to handle it all because such social networking, especially with the amazing worldwide access, is so new. I have gained a LOT of help and even friendship over recent years from forums and as I am stuck in the bloody house more and more I use them for a fair bit of contact.
It has even helped me moderate my own behaviour! As an early user of forums since the old days of Bulletin boards I have been banned here and there before because sometimes it is too tempting to project personality into posts. But we all learn and it seems even I am growing up a bit, not perfect by a long way but getting there! And while we are at the complimentary stuff, as a reasonably new moderator and certainly as a busy participant, the help, assistance and even sharing and caring by members always pleases me to a be part of. You lot rock! We rock! The human race has good points too it seems and we find them here. A diverse bunch, some noticeably insane or close to it (I mean me) but always interesting. I like this forum because CC has allowed a fair bit of latitude, a mature attitude from him that teaches us all not to abuse it. Much. lol.
What a shame that website got stuffed, I have seen some very nasty flame wars and good forums ruined or hardly used any more. Even more important then that we protect this one. Just one stuck or worried motorcyclist helped out makes it worth while, motorbikes aren't just toys, they are transport and a real investment, some have to rely on the damn things too and he information we see passed on is valuable.
Thanks for this thread Jeff, not just an excuse for me to ramble on, a good and timely reminder of what we would lose if it was not here!

Re: Good time to say thanks to KrazyKarl and our other admins
Thanks guys for the great forum! I hope to meet some of you one of these days and treat you to some beer!
Re: Good time to say thanks to KrazyKarl and our other admins
Hey fellas,
ChinaV and Jape are doing a lot of muscle work around here keeping things going and they realy deserve much of the credit for keeping this place running so well. I will be updating the software soon to hopefully stop the stupid amount of bots and such we seem to be getting recently.
Sorry I've been out of the scene for a while but I try to kick in when I can. Things are off the hook over here... and in a good way!
The real question is, what's the next step for MCM?
