Hello,
Few words about me. 43 yrs, Polish male ;) Some motorbikes trips to Asia, some to Africa. I don't use China bike (I have Honda Africa Twin), but who knows the future? I visited your country several times and I will be happy to visit it again in August. I will visit Xinjiang and will spend 2 weeks in this province. I will be happy to hear your tips whatr to see, where to go etc.
We will travel by our bikes with assist of some 4x4 cars.

As Franki said, August is hot but it's fine as long as you keep moving. If you like to travel with dried fruits and nuts then Xinjiang is the place for you. Great kabobs also for real cheap as well a beef rice. Oh and the fresh nan and bagels...don't forget the breads! :icon10:
I've never been to the northern part of XinJiang but I've seen a good portion of the rest. I would suggest three things.
1) Take the southern route around the Taklamakan desert into Hotan (Hetian). The road has much less traffic and is more strongly "Weegur".
2) Cross the Taklamakan desert. It's only about 600 or so km's and it's one of the most amazing roads in the world. Stop in TaZhong for gas and some good ol' fashioned trouble.
3) Turfan is a cool place if you want to take an easy break adn see some great stuff. There are some landforms called "Yadans" just east and north of Turfan which should be amazing. Jiaohe ancient city is worth a look but in August you better bring a LOT of water.

Hi,
few words about our plan. We will enter China from Kyrgyzstan (Torugart pass, and we will go to Kashgar. Then we are going to drive to Turpan and lake near Urumchi. After that, we will cross Taklamakan by the road you suggested.
Spend one or 2 days in Hotan, and go by Yarkanda towards Taxkurgan. We are not sure if there is any bypass or we have to go by Kashgar...
A sto the bikes: we will drive Honda Africa Twin. It is very reliable bike 750 ccm. Watercooled. Bikes are old, but we know them for looong time.

Kashgar is a fun place. Try to stay at a place called the Noor Bisch in an alley just north of the Id Kah Mosque.Quote:

Have a wish to go by a bike ( Chinese ) from the Philippines via China to Norway!

It would be good to post in the Ride prep section and ask some people about their own experiences. The only advice I can give you now is if you are seriously planning the trip, renting a bike in the Phil would be a better idea than buying one in the Phil and trying to import to China. It is near impossible for someone to import a bike legally into China.Quote:

Even just riding from China to Norway would be outrageous...esp. on a small displacement bike. I suggest buying one in China then riding it out to Norway. It'll be cheaper and there's no shipping involved.
