Lost documents

sorry, didnt know where to put this thread.

Any how, i have lost my driving license (not taken by police just misplaced after a few drinks:goodtime:)

I contacted the person who sorted it out for me originally, but it will cost best part of 3,000 rmb to get a replacement:eek2:, im currently driving round on an illegal bike and the only thing i had that was legal was the license :deal:,,,, so i would like to get that back :rolleyes1:.

How do i go about getting a lost license replaced? any ideas?

Where did you apply for the license that was lost? Just go back to that place, and see if they'll replace it. Your records should be in the system. I'm only assuming that they can issue a replacement, and I wouldn't be surprised if they made you take the test again. I hope it works.

If you are no longer in that city or it's not convenient to go there, you probably have to start from scratch.

Who the f*ck is trying to charge you 3k for a replacement?

When you first got your license, did you take the test, medical, etc? Or was it just through someone that you paid a lot of money to, and your license showed up thereafter?

A replacement license takes 24 - 48 hours, and costs less than 100 rmb. You just need to go to the Traffic Management Bureau where you took the test. Very easy to get it done ... if you have a REAL license.

If you just paid a guy a lot of money to get a license, I think you are back at square one - I think you may have originally bought a backdoor license.

Lots of legit places in Beijing hold your hand through the entire process for a fee of around 800 rmb, and you get a REAL driving license.

My license is on their system (apparently) but yeah i paid a company to sort it out for me. its a company from Guangzhou. and its this company that is quoting almost 3000 for a replacement. :gun_bandana:

I guess all i can do is go to the traffic police station where i am and ask them what can be done. :WTFamI>>> :bs:

i am now in Fu'an in Fujian.
It would be a shame to have wasted that initial investment, but at the same time there is no point throwing good money after bad.

If your license is legit, and in their system, it is no problem to have it replaced as long as you have the new residence registration for your Fujian location. I just checked the online "rules & regulations" for Beijing, and this city charges 20 rmb for a replacement and/or residence change. 24 hour turnaround (Beijing).

The GZ company probably sees you as a foreigner with deep pockets.

PS: There may be a wrinkle, inasmuch as I just asked someone who did it and they said you need some GZ paperwork (I'm not sure what that means)

Fantastic, if i can do it my self for 20rmb or something, that would be fantastic. even better if i could get it issued in my current city.

You will need to go to the exact place where the license from the GZ company was issued. Although the procedure used by the GZ company is not 100% legit, the license is. Hopefully, you have a copy of the old license, without it, you probably won't get far, as this is how the GZ company makes its money.

FYI for you BJ'ers and SH'ers... many people need companies like the GZ one to achieve a C1E or C1D license. It's nice that those big fancy cities have rules and procedures, but the vast majority of the cities in China do not issue C1E or C1D licenses to foreigners any more.

ohh, crap hahaha. I have copied of the license but dont have a clue which office they used. it would probably cost more then 3,000 to go down there, stay in a hotel, find the place they used and pay the fee's ect ect :eek2: :-( damn. looks like a catch 22

hold on, my license has my unique id no. what s yours on it? some 黄牛 huangniu they charge less, if u can just find the right people.

forget the id no. I check on internet mine doesn't show where it's issued.
At bottom left of main license card, there should be a square red stamp, like mine is "广东省深圳市..." that is where is issued. I lost mine once and pay someone to run for me, only cost 200 rmb as 本地驾照. To the place you are living, yours is "外地驾照", someone has to be that issued city (which in this case could cost a little more) renew the license from traffic police bureau there.

1. Draw the charcters inside red stamp at nciku.cn . Once written out in computer , u know which "city".

ok, yeah i found that little box, i will get it translated at some point then find someone who is registered in the city to help me out.

i emailed back the company i used and got this


"For the remaking the license, if you don't have the local city resident permit, you can not do it by yourself. And also we need to do the paperwork again for you( << im a bit confused by that bit), it is totally different from the Chinese citizen for the remaking license. And that is why the fees for that (humm)."

well, as at the moment i have less money than children (and i only have the one child) i will have to wait before doing anything.

Scam catches foreign drivers

SOME foreign motorists in the city may be driving illegally and be unaware of it thanks to a bogus application ruse.

Overseas drivers living in Shanghai should only apply for a Chinese driving license with local police.

Shanghai traffic police made the clarification yesterday following reports that some agencies are charging expatriates thousands of yuan to have licenses issued out of town. These licenses are not legitimate.

Shanghai Morning Post broke the story on Thursday after an undercover investigation of the agencies.

With photocopies of the driver's passport, driving license from his or her own country and head-shot photos, clients are told to expect a Chinese driving license, issued by out of town authorities, after a week to 40 days, the newspaper said.

The foreign clients don't need to show up in person but only pass on the material to agents and wait for the licenses to arrive.

Agents charge between about 2,000 yuan (US$263) and 5,000 yuan for the service.

Shanghai Daily interviewed officers from the vehicle administration office under the General Team of Traffic Police who said licenses required by the agents are illegal.

Foreign drivers should swap them for a driving license issued by traffic authorities in their exact area of residence.

Shanghai traffic police are investigating the matter.

"Expatriates with a Shanghai-issued residents' permit, should only apply for a driving license issued by Shanghai traffic police," said a police officer with vehicle administration.

It costs 40 yuan to sit for a test on computer in Chinese road traffic rules. You can obtain a Chinese driving license the same day you pass the exam after paying 15 yuan for certification.

To apply for the test, the expatriate need to come to the police office on 1179 Qingchun Road, with head-shot photos and a hospital-issued physical exam report. Applicants also need to take the driving license issued in their own country.

Police said that international driving license holders are not allowed to drive in China before gaining a Chinese license. Questions about applying for a Chinese driving license should be directed to a hotline, 24023456.

Foreigners warned on out-of-town driving license

SHANGHAI police have warned local foreigners not to buy driver's licenses from out-of-town driving schools.

For those who want a driver's license, the application procedure for a local-registered one takes only one day and a small sum of money, police said. Passing a written test is a must.

For those who hold no license, police suggest them to learn to drive and sit for tests in the city.

Foreigners in Shanghai have been targets of out-of-town driving schools since last August when the schools' business with city residents was ruined by local police.

They were offering a driver's license service that required no written or road test to lure foreigners, said an insider surnamed Zhang.

"The schools offer 'apartment service,' which suited many foreign people," Zhang said.

They usually find it too troublesome to go to a city to do registration.

A salesperson would knock at the door, collect some basic information, get the fingerprints and photos and take copies of the passport.

Then, all in need to do is to wait patiently for at least 40 days when the applicant will receive a driver's license that has been registered outside Shanghai.

"Though foreigners have to pay 1,000 yuan (US$131) more and wait longer, they find it convenient and efficient," Zhang said.

Local students usually pay between 2,600 yuan to 4,200 yuan to get such a license from out-of-town driving schools. It takes at least 5,000 yuan from local schools.

Training outside of the city allows students to get a license quickly. Local regulations require drivers to do 86 hours of in-car training, and they can't spend more than six hours a day on training.

Drivers must also wait at least 40 days between taking a written test and sitting the actual driving test. The whole procedure may take three months.

Other provinces don't have similar regulations, so students can get a license much quicker.
