QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
I was riding in forest when suddenly the revs went up and the bike stopped moving. I thought of snapped chain or something, but I was wrong. 1st, 2nd, 4th and 5th gears work fine and there is no 3rd. It just like in neutral, the bike does not move. There was no abnormal noises coming from the engine when it worked, there is no noise now and there wasnt any when I lost the gear. It just went.
I took the engine out of the frame and I'll try to split it as soon as I can. Does anybody have any ideas what might be wrong with my bikes transmission or do I have to let it be a surprise?
I will take pictures when splitting the engine...

You likely wore down the dogs, and its no longer able to engage.
There is a shop manual on this site for that model.....not sure were it is though.

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
I already have service manual thanks to this forum. :)
I opened the engine, took me about an hour or so. MJH is right, dogs are fractured. I must admit that dogs on these gears didnt look like they are very strong.
So I need a new gear. Broken one is on the driven shaft (shaft which has the sprocket on it) of the transmission. Dont know if local dealers can help but I e-mailed to them about that.
I'll upload pictures of the damage later.

Nice work, Extinction! I admire your confidence and skill with the wrench.
I the gear is not too difficult to find, and that you can share your repair with us through photographs and descriptions!
good luck.

Split crankcase. Almost everything has been taken out:
Attachment 4004
Here's the gear with broken dogs:
Attachment 4002
It came from the driven shaft (I put it next to the shaft with other gears to take a pic):

There is some stange marks on some of the gears on the other shaft.

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
I would replace all part that are damaged…I would not keep the damaged gears. You may have had a piece caught between the gears that caused the marks? All this stuff is typically caused by missing gears when shifting.
Also the wearing in on bikes comes into play and also the idiots spreading the hard break in theory, the importance of good oil and regular oil changes as well matter.
Heating cooling expanding and contracting gears that all are meshing….the metal changes characteristics and eventually stabilize and then over time eventually loose strength, Chinese made bikes do not have or use the best metal and have shorter life spans.
Eventually at a certain accumulated mileage the metal looses it strength and the bikes have to be retired. That is all bikes, but you can be sure that the Chinese die sooner.
If you check the service manual you will see that the Qinqqi has a actual scheduled end of life.
Were are you on the time line? If you have very high mileage accumulated then consider that before repairing it because other metal components liked bearing and such can become life threatening. Old is high mileage and high mileage bikes can seize up, the metal only lasts so long.

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
Holee sheet, Extinction! Those broken teeth were sloshing around in your crankcase?? You're pretty lucky they didn't find their way into the engaged gears or you'd have had a very abrupt cessation.
Sounds like very good advice from MJH to go ahead and replace all five gears, especially if they are showing signs of normal wear or, as you've noted, unusual markings.
This really does put MJH's observations about the qualities of metal into perspective as well. Let's all give our engines a few minutes to warm up before putting them under the heavy strain of normal use!
excellent pix, and I especially like the special daisy patterned towel you've used for displaying the errant gear!
cheers

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
I found the gearbox original in taobao.
I would like to know how to buy parts for motorcycles in China and receive here in Brazil

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
Euphonius, yes they were in the crankcase, I found 3 of them, fourth piece must have gone missing.
I'm currently waiting for my local china bike parts dealer to answer my e-mail. They dont have any parts for the QM200GY on their website.
Luis Carlos, I found the whole new gearbox with all gears and both shafts from taobao, too!

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
Extinction,
How many kms on your bike and are you a very aggressive rider?
Thanks for the photos.

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
I dont know how many kms it has on it, probably 15-20 k.
I got that engine from a friend who is agressive rider. I'm not as agressive as he is, but I still ride with WOT most of the time and I prefer motocross tracks to light trails. (Not with original Qingqi frame and suspension of course, I have something a little bit different.)

Supposedly it is on the way to me in Florida,USA. I will post if I am successful.
Gears are only $34 USD but the air mail will be the killer.

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
I'm ordering the gearbox linked above from taobao.com using TaobaoFocus. It may take long but will be 2x cheaper to buy it locally, in fact any local sellers probably dont have it so they need to order it too, which takes time.

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
I started the order at Focus on 3/25 and it is not here in Florida,USA yet. Over a month so far.

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
Thanks for the help guys, I need a rear shock and I'll try my luck.
The price at the dealership here in Brazil is six times larger and also has the shipping costs.
I will contact this agent. http://gulleitaobaoagent.com/

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
Someone just offered me a QM200GY dual sport for 250 euros. Few bits are missing but overall the bike is claimed to be in rideable condition.
Will go and take a look at it this weekend and I'll probably buy it.

The center stand arrived today. It must have been on a slow boat from China.:lol8:

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
Nice to hear it, so I dont have to worry about giving my money to a stranger without knowing if I'll even get the stuff. :D

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
It's been 13 days and the gearbox is now finally on its way to Estonia from TB Focus.
I'll probably ride all day long when the stuff arrives.

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
Ex,
Congrats, that's faster shipping than my center stand.

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
New gearbox finally arrived today. I will start reassembling the engine tomorrow and I'll try to remember to take some pics as well.

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
Glad to hear that you transaction with Taobao Focus went well.
Photos would be nice just in case my Qlink XF200 suffers the same fate.

Is that the bike you mentioned in the PM? Did it take a lot of work to fix it?
You must be an experienced motorcycle mechanic.
-
Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
The bike I mentioned was a 1988 Suzuki TS80 which I bought yesterday. It needs some electrics and engine work to be done. But as I have some new gears now, I'll put the Yamaha/Qingqi back on the track first.
Sadly I never got another Qingqi, the seller changed his mind very quickly after he offered it to me. Don't know why do people offer their stuff for sale when they arent even sure if they want to sell it at all.
I wouldn't consider myself an experienced mechanic, but I like motorcycles a lot and I'm confident working on them. I got my first moped when I was ten and I started to do all the work on it by myself. Sometimes dad helped me a bit, sometimes I read the book. All that was eight years ago, I've had quite many bikes since then and i've leared a lot.
Actually my profession is machine tool operator. 2 more years left to graduate the school but I can already use lathes and milling machines to make some things. :)

Re: QM200GY (XF200) lost 3rd gear, possible causes?
I forgot the camera when I was on my way to the workshop.:uhoh: But new gearbox fitted perfectly and works well. Tested on the road first, then on light trails and finally on motocross track, and everything seems to be fine.
I think it would be more gearbox-friendly if DT125's rear sprocket would drive the wheel though the rubber cushioning like it does on many other bikes. On DT125R it doesn't and that means the transmission parts (gears, chain, etc) will suffer more beating, which will result in breakdown.

how does the 2 stroke frame hold up with a 4 stroker in it now? looks like a perfect fit in the pictures saying that
