post three in that thread and plenty other threads on gear if you do a forum search
introduce yourself a bit more eh?
Thank you! Forum search,of course. Guess I have been to excited to open my first thread.
Have been to one shop in the Russian market, nice jackets but no boots, gloves or trousers in my size. The lady said she'll close shop in two months. So she is only selling the stock she has.
Any more info about the small shops between the NE 4th and 5th ring road? The other thread is two years old. A lot of buildings have been chai'd in that area.
Introduction: Still trying to figure out how to add things to my profile... Bought a second hand Galaxy XTR 250 SM from another MCM member last weekend...
Welcome to the forum, Rumpel. Have to assume the erstwhile owner of your Galaxy was one Lao Jia Huo. He's an authority on shops in Beijing, and recently has been guiding other newbs in this regard. Some of the Beijing shops are hard to find, but LJH posted very accurate coordinates only in the past month or two, so you should be able to follow his trail of bread crumbs....
Do show us some porn of your new steed!
Good luck.
Hi Rumple
There isn't really any "MC gear street" in Beijing, which is unfortunate. You've got to travel from pillar to post to shop. But here's a quick rundown of some of the places I have found in/around Beijing:
Around NE 4th & 5th Ring Road
1) Mr Yu's Shop (on Yaojiayuan Road) - great selection of clothing for cruising, racing & dirt biking, and pretty good prices. He's a biker, first and foremost, but now also runs a clothing outlet. My personal fave. Franki turned me on to this guy during one of his Beijing visits.
2) FHL (on a little alleyway, near Harley dealer) - very good selection of gear, and all genuine ($$$$). Tremendous customer support, in my experience (replaced a pair of faulty sunglasses, no questions asked, after a few months of wearing them). If you ask the Chinese biker community, most will recommend FHL for quality gear.
3) Harley dealer - great selection of Harley clothing & accessories ($$$$$$$$). Fancy store.
4) BMW dealer - odd location & difficult to find the first time. Very good selection of BMW riding gear, but bring many shopping bags full of cash (same as Harley dealer). You get what you pay for. I just go there to window shop, dream and drool.
5) Chrome Horse - right next door to the BMW dealership, a Harley place with a good selection of Harley clothing upstairs (expensive) - it has a sales rack on the first floor with very good prices.
6) Jame's Harley Shop - Lido area, just inside 4th ring road on a little alleyway. Like Chrome Horse, carries a lot of Harley stuff. James speaks some English but, in my experience, he isn't great on customer service. I went once on a scooter and he looked down his nose at me! No prob - I took my dough elsewhere. I've never priced out his gear, so I don't know about his prices.
7) BMW Motorrad shop - Chinabiker turned us on to this guy's shop - great gear, BMW prices, but really tough to find inside the 798 Art District. This is a shop for the 1200GS crowd with money to burn.
Pinggu (much further afield)
A suburb of Beijing, about 30 kms out past Terminal 3 - this is where several wholesale outlets are. Great prices (non-negotiable), but not really set up for retail. Only worth the trip if you're buying a lot of stuff.
SE 4th/5th Ring Road
1) Qili Motors - one of Beijing's largest MC dealers. Not much gear, but what it does carry is very reasonably priced. Tends to be lower end Chinese gear, with the odd goodie on the rack. I saw an XL upper body Dianese mesh protector (knock-off) for 200 rmb (I paid 800 for the genuine one at FLH)
SW 4th/5th Ring Road
1) FCY MC shop - is run by a well known Chinese circuit racer who heads up a huge Chinese MC club, so he has plenty of racing suits, and a small assortment of other stuff. His club's website is www.fcyclub.com and his telephone number is 13801117567. Chinese prices (low) but unlikely anything is genuine (except his racing suits). Tough to find the first time, and kinda dumpy store, but very knowledgeable vendor.
I can email you (or anyone else) google maps of any of the above if you PM me your email address.
Cheers
Richard
That is an awesome response Richard, thanks for doing that, the best of what this forum is about.
Wow, I can just second that. Amazing reply. Thanks heaps Richard!
First you supplied me the bike and now you tell me where to look for my gear.
Must be my lucky week...
Ok, update: This weekend I had a look at Mr. Yu's shop and FHL. There is nothing I can add to Richard's descriptions of the shops, he really nailed it.
So I bought myself a black Joe Rocket jacket @RMB450 and some Alpinestars gloves @RMB50 at Mr Yu's. My wife brought me a colourful helmet from Singapore as a gift and it fits really nicely. So I am still looking for one of these jeans which are lined with ?Kevlar? and sewed in knee protectors. Have seen great black pants at Mr Yu's but I don't want to ride around like the black knight. For boots I planning to bring my old paratrooper boots from home. So I am slowly getting there.
Richard: Thanks again for the great map and description you sent me.

I haven't heard of cheaper chinese knock-offs of kevlar, will be interested if you find any - but for choice and fit and quality http://www.hoodjeans.co.uk/
Properly lined not just sewn in patches of kevlar like 'draggin' and some others I have seen. Worth the money if you don't want leathers (which are still far and away the best).
I got my gear here on Ebay, both leather pants and kevlar cargos - good quality, cheaper than most.

thanks for all the details, and to Felix for turning me onto this thread. looking to buy some gear this weekend, can somebody give me some details on the exact location of Mr Yu's shop and FHL? thanks again!
Dear Ekki,
Buying gear, eh? Does this mean there's finally a squeazel in your life?
fingers crossed, and safe riding!
cheers
not SQUEAZEL?!, that name is reserved for the Qingqi Liger 250 (which i will get SOME day).. what i'm looking at now is a second hand 200cc zhongshen whom shall be named FIXORRRRRR! :)
Fantastic! OK, there's a difference between a bike and a dream bike, but that difference is less than the difference a bike and no bike. Hope this one works out and drags you deeper into our lovely madness.
Ekki's got a FIX on a FIXORRRRRRR!
cheers!
FIXORRRRRR! comes with a plate but no documents.. is that a big issue?
not until you get stopped.
hmmn might NOT get that bike then.. *sigh* keep on searching!
Hi Everybody,
Does anyone know the exact address or phone number of Jame's harley shop?
I am also looking for cool vintage accessories if anybody knows.
Thanks!
Reggie
Hi Reggie, welcome to MCM ... here is a map:
http://i53.tinypic.com/348gigj.jpg
It is just inside the 4th Ring Road, near the Lido area. It is on the North side of Xiaoyun Road, which is a divided road with a median down the middle, so you have to access it from driving in a SW direction (from 4th to 3rd ring road). The shop is about 100 meters off Xiaoyun Road, on a little one-lane road. You can only access this one-lane road from the bike lane on Xiaoyun Road.
Perfect, thank you so much!
Quick update on my quest for biker jeans: I found one in the Russian market behind the Kuntai Hotel on Chaoyangmenwai Street. They are not completely lined with kevlar, but have huge patches all over the back, the shins and knees. It is a "Lindstrands". Doesn't look like a fake, more likely they left the factory through the backdoor.
Looks too long when I am walking around, but just right when I am sitting on the bike.
Hi All, does anyone know where I can buy a decent pair of MX or Trial riding boots in Beijing? Looking for Sidi, Gaerne or something similar.
You might want to give this shop a call, identified by chinabiker ...

I've been there a couple of times and it definitely has good gear. It is located in the 798 Art District. I haven't been recently, though, so I don't know what its current offerings are.
Another option might be FHL Motors, in the Lido area (not too far from the above shop).
http://www.fhlmotor.com/
I have seen MX boots in other shops, but I think they may be selling copies.
Thanks, LJH. Will give them both a try, I also came across this link in one of the earlier threads: http://www.wldamotor.com/index.htm
Duh - I am so stupid sometimes (ok, maybe often)
Yes, that is also a great store with fair & decent prices. When I was visiting it, I was looking at helmets on the first floor, but I now recall that there was a pretty good selection of clothing gear on the second floor (I even bought a Dianese mesh jacket from it). I don't recall seeing MX boots, as I wasn't looking for them, but I would guess it has them.
Good luck!
No worries. I called them today and they confirmed that they have most of the gear advertised on their website in stock including large sizes. I'm driving up from Tianjin in the next day or two to go visit some of these stores. For interests sake I'll let you guys know what I find.
hmmn, this russian place is just around the corner from where i live, maybe i'll check that out first! anyone have an exact addy? :)
The lady said she will close shop soon, that was in July, but you should just pass by and have a look. She mainly had only very large and very small sizes left.
The Russian market is right opposite "U-Town" shopping center, off Chaoyangmenwai. See here: http://www.thebeijinger.com/director...hopping-Center
These Russian markets are like Yashow or Silk Market but catering to Russians, hence the name.
Opposite U-Town are two: one is called "Alien Street" and the shop I am talking about is in the other one.
Shop is on the second floor. Just ask other shops for: "motoche de yifu, zai nar?" That shoulkd do it....
thanks Rumpel, I swang past there a few days ago but didn't find anything.. didn't stay long to have a good search though.
Instead, I went to 雨田 up north around the 5th ring road and bought my HJC IS-Max helmet for 618rmb, although it doesn't have the hole for BT like the ones some others have on this forum.
Yutian is a small shop without a lot of choices, but the prices are cheap and I saw plenty of motorcycles parked outside, including the Qjiang that I plan on buying when i get back from Xi'an!
Going to Laoshan tomorrow to apply for my license, hopefully I can squeeze everything in before I leave.. oh the excitement! :)
