Well after having 2 months of excellent riding weather the rain has hit. In the past 3 days we have recieved over 2.5" of rain. The roads have become so muddy that even riding in the driveway is almost impossible.
What do people normally do when they cant ride? I have become so use to riding in the evenings with my wife, that for 2 hours there is nothing to do.
Guess I need to find a new hobby. What do you folks like to do besides ride? Seemed to have forgotten what I use to do before I rode.

Well, since you asked , Semper Fi guy , I can think of many things I do and ideas for you too . First one would be " its raining in the evening , you can't ride your bike for some reason beyond my understanding there ( are you gonna melt ? ) , but you have a wife , this should be a NO brainer for things to do with her for two hours , but I could point you to the book " the Joy of Sex " I guess ???? :thumbsup: and Or :jerkoff:

Guns , girls , music , Mustangs , fishing , TV , mudd wrestling with Midgets , pollishing your bikes , the list is too long on things to do .

Well, no I wont melt, but i will not make it far. Our ground is covered with Caliche, sort of like went concrete. Anything it gets into destroys it, plus it sticks to everything, and if allowed to dry it will reharden like concrete. Not fun to scrape off a chain.Quote:

Bikes are in the barn now, trying to keep them dry. 2" of rain makes killer mud, do it 3 days in a row, it makes it impossible. See the Elk picture, and you see my driveway drives from the top of a basin right into a river. Often it is 3' deep and 12-15' across this time of the year. The other times it is dry. Here they call it a seasonal river.
I am doing some hand carving of balsa. keeps me out of my wifes hair atleast. I will never-ever-ever do a modification on a beautiful spring day, it can wait till the end of June through the first of October.
BTW.. Culcune, we never hit 62 today, what was Yuma aka SE AZ high today.. :lol8:

Many a year has passed under a whiddlers knives here in the great U.S of A .:icon10: Whatcha making ???? More importantly, what kinda knives or carving tools are ya using ??? I hand make gunstocks and pistol grips myself from fine exotic woods from blanks with handtools . Just one of my WAY TOO MANY HOBBIES !!!!!!
Hope the rain stops for ya , or ya move to a more ride friendly environment , or get big Knobbies, or something . Boredome isn't good for anyone, especially if you like to tip the cup with the booze crew .

Found a great project, decided to get the ceiling done in the MH.. The stupid heat we get before monsoons (90-95') destroyed the foam acking on the headliner. Used 8mm tounge and groove solid Red Cedar interior siding to laminate the ceiling. Stuff is light, and works great!! Used that new "Locktite" construction adhesive. Better than the old "Liquid Nails", and comes out of the caulking gun without bending the handle. Trowels out real nice.. Here is a photo.. Momma loves it. Alot better than the bare wood we were looking at after I pulled the old headliner out..

Yeap that Major Kurt in the picture.. Was cold OK, that is the reasoning for the "Al" flannel. Warm (75-80) until it rains, than it gets down right cold 55-60'). Yes my neck hurt when I finished every night. Think, I am 6' 5" and I still have to lean back and look up. Tall ceilings in Safari Chassis MH's..
Hope the ceiling holds up Culcune.. That is right above the couch we were going to stick you in if we every get a ride together..

Awsome plane there , as well as the Mustang . My two most favorite of course . The Britt Spitfire ranks right there with me too , another awsome plane . Sounds like a cool hobby to me and also some talent behind it to do the vac molds too . I just watched that History channel ( military channel ) on the Lightning the other night . Very cool footage of the dogfights of the ZERO and the P-38 .

Oh by the way , that Cedar ceiling ought to keep in a few BTU's for ya in Winter for heat too , good idea there . And it looks so much nicer than the other ceiling you had going . Although if it ever catches fire, you'll have more BTU's than you may want .
Side note here . This forum heading of "Take it Outside" is for our ramblings, flag wavings etc , bike or non-bike . IMHO you can wave your flag high here without retaliation , especially if your on a bike . Cuclune of course wouldn't be able to do that :lol8: The bike part that is , but he's a great American too . Its nice to talk bike most of the time on forums for bikes , but to get to know people , you got to let your hair down and write what you feel without retaliation . Yes, we all could e-mail eachother or PM's blah blah blah , but I actually like the oportunity to hear how people actually feel in public , especially if thier willing to write it for all to see . I think it is ok to write what you feel here , if it pisses someone off, they will probably let you know .:icon10:
The flag thing , well, of course that is controversial and will always piss someone off since were infidels and proud of it , but you wouldn't be writing on a Forum without OUR flag fellas and gals , remember that much ! You'd all be speaking German or Japanese . Don't forget it either !

I too did ROTC Air Force for four years , Drill team for that four years and in Funerals while in High School , I served my country and its fallen heros well then . I never entered the service though , I liked woman and drugs too much and declined going to the Academy on the free ride I could have had because my Dad is a Veit Nam decorated Vet ( Combat Chopper Mechanic ) MIA for 1-1/2 years, POW for another year before escaping , so I am very proud to be American and love my VETS and my Flag . I won't wave it on the Dirtbike/Enduro heading but I see no reason to NOT waive it on this heading of Take it Outside . I waive mine high and proud today , and want to thank all the Vets here , especially American ones for serving our military's so we can all write today like I am .

Hawker Hurricane and the Mosquito. Two under-recognized planes from the era. Maybe one of you could whittle a 1:1 Mosquito out of wood, just like the original. My dad was in the Navy and Grandfather in the 8th Air Force naving B-24's in Europe during WWII. Went to check out a Consolidated 24 at an airshow some time back. Nothing like the sound of the radial reciprocating engines warming up on the tarmac. Too bad they can't be put in a motorcycle! :mwink:
"Freedom", at least of the political type, is acquired through more means that military alone but I seldom see people lauding the good jobs of politicians, probably because so many of them become corrupt in the upper levels as a necessary condition of the system. Flag waving as a DUTY is one man's opinion and choice. To some it's great, to others it spells trouble and itself can be an impediment to "freedom".
MCM intends to be an international community and as long as respect is the name of the game and flag poles aren't used to draw lines in the sand, all is good.

I useually have to take a breathe after reading yours and Signets, they are soooo full of information and wonderment to us folks here in the States, it takes awhile to ponder and imagine ourselves in your shoes ???? Kinda cool to just watch the diversity around here too .

I use Crayola Color Crayons to draw lines in the sand now that I am wiser :icon10: , gave up flagpoles recently , does no good to deliberately make enemies is what I learned .
Yes indeed the Hurricaine was a fine plane , as was the German Stuka
( spelled wrong ) . The list of fine planes is toooo long , but we all got our favorites obviously . Mine I guess stem from Performance and gracesfull lines, just like my Woman !!! :thumbsup: Planes are Woman , thank God Almighty for that . Personally I prefer radial juggs too Crazy Carl , nothing sounds or feels better than a 1920's 30's Bi-Plane rumble . Make mine a 12 cylinder please :icon10: I am sure someone has put those motors into a cycle , they are just not alive to give us a test report from the experience of trying that . :lol8: Hell, even Jay Lenno owns a bike with the Turbo-Jet Helecopter motor and rides the thing too from time to time . Now thats crazy . ::thumbsup:

No worries. I spent much of the last two weeks out playing, most of it between 14,000 and 16,000 feet. Now I'm paying for it with reviewing and post-processing over two thousand pictures. Full trip report to come after the photos get uploaded.
I also don't mind getting stuck in some mud every now and then!

Lordy lordy , now that's isolation riding, gotta love it . That's how I felt in Saudi Arabia . Its nice as long as you don't concern your mind with breaking down . And I am sure by now your mind is far from worrying about that there .

Mosquito is nice, but a bad airfoil to convert to R/C. Infact most people who flew them would never do so witout being in comba. Bad temperment plane. RR motors are nice, but only if the counter rotate.
Hurricane was a great plane, but was outdated by the time the Battle of Britian came around.
Stuka was the most unrecognized aircraft of WWII ahead of the B-24. Hitler would have gotten no where without the Stuka. As I recall in my past reading, it was Joe Kennedy who stated that the Stuka was an defensive weapon, not offensive.
Thought the B-17 was a great plane, the B-24 was better.. Why, well cheaper to build, and had a longer airframe service, if it wasnt shot down... But it was Memphis Belle not a B-24 to make it through the first 25 mission.
Currently have a B-25 with twin 1208-32 BL motors getting ready to go onto the building board. That is this winters project. Hate to build in the bad summer time weather as the CA accelerated to fast with the humidity.. It is funny as you can speed the drying (kicker) time up, but you cant slow it down..

When I was younger I whined my parents into getting me a styrofoam RC Cessna Cardinal with a tiny ass Cox engine. I got to the part about drilling a hole in the firewall and it ended there. :confused1:
IIRC, the 24's had a longer range and were vitally important to patrolling the Pacific for subs. The 17's I think are better looking planes with more elegant lines but the brickish elephant like front nose of the 24's always got my juices going.
Also, which came into service first? the 24's or 17's? I think the survival rate of the aircraft went up a little after the P-51's came out with long range tanks.
Oh and...the Flying Tigers I think had the coolest teeth of any WWII plane even though the P40's weren't the best machines around. In China the Flying Tigers were and still are a respected part of SW China fight against the Japanese in Yunnan and Burma. They did okay for a bunch of volunteers and the teeth left a lasting impression on both sides of the conflict.
The new planes are outrageously cool, but after the A-10, I think something got lost. Warthog had some cool teeth too. :thumbsup:

I truely love A-10's. They saved my ASS in the Gulf in 1991. As a enlisted man at the time, it was part of my job to go out in the field to grade my analyst work. I was in the three corners of Iraq, Q8, and Saudi when we ran into a nice line of Soviet tanks that no one including myself had noticed. We began to take fire from them, and called for back up. I was shot, and one of the men in the unit was killed. Then from no where these BEAUTIFUL A-10's from the ANG, came in letting those cannons in. When it was over there was 5 less Soviet tanks. At that point I decided I wanted to be an officer, and avoid a situation like that.
B-24 was old compared to the 17. The survival rate of the 17 was higher, but the 24 was capable of caring a heavier load a further distance. Compared to what the British had in there bomber arsenal, a PT-17 looked good. Dont have much good to say about the Lancaster.. Many claim that the 51D was the best escort aircraft, but talk with a bomber pilot, and they will credit the 47D thru M Jugg. The 51D was one of the first aircraft that was able to escort all the way to Germany and back, and once again stole the glory af another aircraft.
I am running a Spektrum DX-7 2.4Ghz. Was running a Futaba Attack 6 on 50 Mhz, but the local flying club is frowning on Ham Band.. This one is to big to fly from my small field in front of the house. The P-38 is an older Sterling Models kit designed to run twin .60 SuperTigre's of the 60's-70's. Never could imagine running on a galloping ghost or escapement system, but they did.. Early proportinal systems ran in the range of $100-150, this was in the 70's, and $3000 would buy a car..
Anyways..... It is on the bench again getting a revamp. The big reason for the new cowl is I am going over to brushless. Thank goodness again for the Chinese.. Bought my motors and batteries from www.R2hobbies.com . Saved me a bunch, and now I can get rid of the last of my fuel motors. I hated flying the plane with non-counter rotating props. Now with the brushless I can fly without 3/16" R throw in my rudders..
Love the Corsair, well as a Marine, it is a requirement. Did you know that the Navy rejected it, as its long nose made it nearly impossible to land on a carrier? It was the British who learned to land it on the carrier, than the Navy recalled there order, and took posession of the remaining. It was one of the first single engine aircraft that could out do the Zeke in every aspect. The F-6F did a fine job, but was still a bit slow, guess "Grumman Iron" earned thier name again..
Those who love the FA-18, keep this in mind. The Navy rejected it, as it was not able to carry the payload of the F-14. The USMC loved it, as it was able to go from ground support to air to air combat in the same sortie. The only other jet able to do that was A-4 "Scooter". The MC placed an order, and within 3 years the USN to placed an order.
Remember, as in the case of the P-40. It isn't the aircraft that makes the pilot, it was the pilot that made the aircraft. This has been the MC combat fighter moto for years. Alot of Betties and Zekes buried deep in SW China from an inferior plane and inferior pilots..

The one with him doing something with his hands is his explenation to me how he get his first North Korean Mig in '51. We were standing in front of a F-86D, similar to what he was flying. My wife took the picture at the wrong angle and missed the plane completely. Dumas
This will be the first year since 01 that I will miss it. I will be reporting for 3 months active duty at the end of this month to Fallon NAS. I will be 50 miles away, but will be to busy for a weekend off.
