this bike did lock steering.
with help of another guy, the force broke the lock:confused1:
this bike seems chained to a fixture, it takes them longer with unsophisticated tools. (Some use hydraulic shears)
he is quick at managed to unlock the steering. Wow...
Wow, this is so depressing, especially the first one with the van - the bike was gone before the bus had passed. And the third one, where a guy comes out, gets in his car, and just ignores the thieves with the bolt-cutters.
:rolleyes1:
I remember reading an academic research paper on what is the most effective deterrent for B&E thieves, etc. The researchers interviewed over 2,000 convicted thieves. Alarms, locks, secured doors, etc, were surprisingly ineffective. Fewer than 20% said any of these items were a concern.
The number ONE deterrent for thieves? Overwhelmingly, it was a big dog. I recall the researchers found that almost all of the thieves said they would pass by if there was a big dog present.
Using a big chain and physically locking the bike to a pole or fence does help a lot though. If you park it in a row of of bikes on the street and yours is the only one that's actually locked to something, it'll be the last one to get stolen.
Right on! Making your possession the least attractive by making it the most work for the thief (in terms of time & effort) is definitely a plus.
I also make sure that everyone around my bikes know that they are the foreigner's bikes. Everyone = apartment security guards, cleaners, neighbours, etc. That way, I might have extra eyes that could potentially question a would-be thief (i.e., someone who is not me, touching one of my bikes). Although, TIC, and I am amazed at how people just walk by "happenings." (i.e., they don't want to get involved)
I have the Chinese equivalent of lo-jack (a GPS tracker), but I'd like to get one that sends me an SMS if the bike is touched.
Tried but found it extremly difficult to put the dog on the bike and keep it there during the ride before chaining it to the bike for the night :)
Also difficult to keep a big dog within BJs 2nd ring road to watch the bike that is not allowed even within the 4th ring...
MY GOD, WHAT A BUNCH OF BUCKING FASTARDS, STEALING BIKES WILLY NILLY, I HAVE A DISK LOCK A 60 TON U-LOCK STEERING LOCK AND ALARM ON BOTH OF MY BIKES , THEN I SEE TWO GUYS THROWING A BIKE IN THE BACK OF A VAN , JEEZO, NEED MORE LOCKS, AND A 50,000 VOLT GET TAE FECK AFF MY BIKE YA BASSAS, DEVICE., ITS NOT NICE SEEING THESE THEIVES GETTING AWAY WITH IT ESPECIALLY ON CAMERA, DOH!
Awful videos...
The U lock on 3rd video does a good job at delaying them, also forces them to show up with bolt cutters...
I'll buy one of those.
It also seems like putting it close from the ground give thieves a good lever with the bolt cutter, one arm on the ground and pushing together with all their weight on the other arm, they get a big deal of cutting power.
Best getting a U lock that crosses the swing arm or the suspension, or that they just can't bring close from the ground...
I'll also buy a bigger chain I think, as the one he had was easy for them.
The last video is the saddest one to me, 30 seconds he started it and broke the Neeman.
But there was no wheel lock...
I wonder how they'd deal with disk locks, as it's still not common here.
OK, here's another "instructional" video on bike theft, this one about bicycles being nicked in London. Sorry it's in youtube, so you'll need to warm up your grannybuster to watch. But some good info!
cheers

electric fence machines (8000 volt surge) as used on horse fields are quite small now and run on 12 volt
i use one on my car and was going to put one on my quad then thought WILL IT FRY MY CDI UNIT ? so i have not tried it.
does any one know if its ok ??:confused1:
Haha - an electric fence hook-up is a good idea, but probably quite illegal in the UK.
In China, legality isn't the key concern ... more likely, within a few hours some enterprising neighbour would have run a wire from the bike to his apartment's air conditioner, fridge, TV, etc.
:lol8:
