Shanghai to Moganshan this week end (19/21 August 2011)
Hello,
I am planning to ride this week end (August 19 to 21st) from Shanghai to Moganshan starting on Friday late afternoon (drive mainly at night without traffic, in that way we skip ugly landscape and crazy truck, I've done it 2 weeks ago) and come back on Sunday.
I am driving a YBR 250, not a monster but enough to go around. Goal is not speed at all but just pleasure of riding, enjoy landscape and find some nice new spot.
Cheers,
Nicolas

at this reason, riding at night keep away from intense daylight heat. But I encounter mainly trucks at night around my area (between towns).

still trucks but it's way better than driving at rush hour...Haha

Re: Shanghai to Moganshan this week end (19/21 August 2011)
Have to agree with the other 2 posts, night riding is something I avoid. I especially detest the rear lights mounted on the sides of trucks and aimed back. They are blinding bright and dangerous as f*ck, making it very difficult to see while overtaking. That being said, I wish you the best of luck and hope to see lots of pics on your ride report later. How is the YBR 250 serving you? I'm looking to pick one up myself come October.

Dear Nicolas,
Nice first post and welcome to the forum. You sound like you know what you are doing, but please be especially carefully out there after dark. Between Shanghai and Huzhou you'll have streetlights for most of the stretch, which really helps for seeing hazards and keeping your eyes undilated enough that those insane rear-facing beams that Nuhaus mentioned don't totally blind you. But the hazards are definitely greater at night, so extra extra extra caution is required.
Hope you carry a camera and post for us all to enjoy! Some pix of your bike also most welcome!
cheers

Re: Shanghai to Moganshan this week end (19/21 August 2011)
Hello,
Thanks for your comments and for the welcoming message. I do agree that night ride contains risks and required much more attention. To be honest with you, speed or rush is not what I am looking on Chinese road, saying that I found out less stressful to make it at night than day ride on that portion of road which we all know is "industrially" boring. As Euphonius mentionned, most of this trip is made over nice streetlights, and if motorbike is well equiped (HID light, powerful horns, ...) it's fine to go ahead. I also would like to add, that we don't necessary need to cover all the distance in one night, let's look at the situation and if it's too painful, there are plenty of hotels alongside the road.
I have been driving a YBR 125 previously and went last february from Shanghai-Huangshan-Jingdezhen-Shangrao-Lishui-Whenzhou-Shaoxing-Shanghai. All by myself and with temperatures around -5 to 8°C during 8 days...I just changed about a month ago for a YBR 250 (which is my daily transportation tools in Shanghai). So far I have been very satisfied with it, even if I would love to have a nice 600cc...
Anyway, invitation is still on for this week end, and I wish I will not depart alone again... hahaha
I have plenty of pictures of my previous trip, what is the best way to upload on the forum?
Thanks!
Nicolas

Thanks, Nicolas. Lots of riders in this forum will envy you that YBR250! There's a very nice thread about how to post pix. Best is to post them to a hosting site, then just insert a link to the desired picture using the linking tool.
Like this, which is linked from my smugmug collection:

Nicolas,
Yes, this is the "other" method -- directly pasting pix into MCM. Sub-optimal for those of us without hinges in our necks!
There are lots of sites that'll host your pix for free, starting with Flickr, which Felix and others use. Slabo is partial to fotki.com.
Great pix though!
cheers

Re: Shanghai to Moganshan this week end (19/21 August 2011)
also, if you're outside of China, imgur.com was the easiest to deal with, they have a bulk uploading tool.. Felix also uses Windows live or skydrive .. some service Microsoft service that offers 25Gb .. I just couldn't figure out how to use it to link public photos.. well that was more than 4 months ago, maybe now it's easier.

Hi Nicolast, looks like you've done some pretty cool riding since you're in china! Riding in snow is ballsy, where did you take those pics? I can guess it was during chinese new year, mainly due to this pic:

I'd like to join this weekend but am busy working both days so i'll have to give it a miss. FYI, if you want to see a big bunch of sidecars and big bikes you should delay your moganshan trip to the following weekend; the suzhou motorbike club is making a trip out there with 25 CJ750 sidecars and some exotic race bikes. Should be quite a sight.
Slabo, that windows live skydrive is actually even more annoying to use now, i think Pat's imgur solution is better.

imgur is blocked in China, at least uploading anonymously is. Yup, confirmed, still is..

Re: Shanghai to Moganshan this week end (19/21 August 2011)
Hey Nicolas,
Nice pictures you posted, I wish I could have joined you, but I'm currently waiting for my new YBR 250. Right now I have a 150cc bike in Shanghai and went several times to Moganshan with it. It would be fun to go there together in the future.
In one of your pictures, I can't help but notice you have exactly the same saddlebags as I do. I thought they will be too low for the exhaust on the YBR 250, but it seems it's ok on your pics. Can you tell me if you did some special arrangements for them to fit without the right one being burnt by the exhaust pipe ?
Thanks a lot in advance !
Fred

Re: Shanghai to Moganshan this week end (19/21 August 2011)
Finally I make it to Huangshan this week end!
I was planning to go to Moganshan last week end and left on Friday night. On the road I have met some bikers and I decided to join them to Huangshan. We made the 450KM during the night and arrived at 2:30 in Huangshan. These guys were driving powerful TMax and were going to the BMW Mottorad days.
Great trip but I have to get back on saturday night, so I made 1100KM in 2 days...especially I made the return alone....so tired...
I will post the pictures asap.
Cheers,
N
