zongshen bikes any good???
hey guys,
right, well lets cut to the point.
I am looking at a new motorbike (totally legal)(yea a first for me).
the bike i am looking at is the zongshen,,,, umm take a look
http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=5631760717
has anyone had any experience with zongshen bikes??? if i could afford one i would get a regal raptor, but finances are limited and while my wife has (conditionally) agreed my new years long trip, one of the conditions is i get a bike that wont break down every 300km and need new parts.
another one is that i stick to the speed limits and dont do anything stupid...... but you cant have your cake and eat it.
probably more likely to get something like this http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?id=12519490334 but in a 200cc engine.
it will have to take a weeks clothes (in a backpack tied to the rear somehow, me, waterproofs, and a spare gallon of fuel.
also once reaching my destination i would like the bike to be good for another 2 years before it has to be 'stolen' (can never be bothered to sell a bike, much better to ride it into the ground, take off the plates and leave it down a dark street for it to go missing. (im crap with paperwork and even worse with the chinese bureaucracy)
anyhow, thanks for anyone who knows anything about the reliability and quality of this bike
happy driving lads and lass's
Re: zongshen bikes any good???
ps, women standing next to bikes really help the buyer to find the good quality bikes to buy :naughty:
Re: zongshen bikes any good???
quite a nice looking bike there, generally iv heard Zongshens are good strong engines but like anything will need looking after

Re: zongshen bikes any good???

Re: zongshen bikes any good???
Yes, and if you want to know anything about the latest Zongshens, you could do worse than asking Lulu, who's currently riding one for 45 days around China as part of a Zongshen promotion.
As she noted in her latest post, she's in Yangshuo with a few days on her hands. Not sure if she's anywhere near where you are.
And TD is right. There's nothing wrong with these farmer's bikes as a great way to learn how to ride. (But do get a (legal) license!)
good luck.
Re: zongshen bikes any good???
zongshen likely make good basic engines, but I would consider the reliability of the whole bike. Maybe other sound brand? Qingqi suzuki, Wuyang Honda, etc...
Re: zongshen bikes any good???
ok, thanks all for your opinions.
my current bike is
Attachment 5568
cant get another one on her as they keep failing to upload (the size is 3000x something or another at 1.5mb. not sure why, but the bike is basic and isnt up to the job of getting me more than 100km at a time (over heating problems with the gear box)
anyhoe, thanks for the advise, have a gooden

next week i am off to a near by town, so will look at qingqi then, not to sure about the wuyang honda *(maybe a bit pricey for this poor father)*
humanbeing
my current bike isnt much better, or should i say that bike isnt much better than my current bike. :-)
first time of buying a NEW bike,, or car for that matter, so want it to be something with good looks, good engine, and a damn good ride ^_^ hehehe
Re: zongshen bikes any good???
Lightend,
Have you talked to dewsnap in Shanghai?
cheers
Re: zongshen bikes any good???
i chattered to my dad about it (who lives in shanghai) he worked out that as i dont live in shanghai or go there, it owuld be cheaper to buy the bike in fuzhou with a fuzhou license plate, i allready have the gear and so it would be paying more for something that i dont need. he suggested leaving it for Dewsnap to find someone new to biking in shanghai *there are allot of people coming and going form shanghai all the time so sooner or later one will crop up who would be perfect fo rthe bike and it would be a great deal*
I do like those bikes though, even though i read on here a while back about multiple problems with them after just 6k. but damn, when you like something, all the common sense in the world wont prevail. i will prob wait 3 or 4 years before getting one of those regal's.
shame though. oh well, the restrictions on being a husband and a father (money is divided up before it even reaches my hand)
Re: zongshen bikes any good???
A group of us inherited a ZS125-11S a few years ago, that was quick and reliable, never had too many problems with it. I would say that along with Qiangjiang they are one of the better domestic brands. Like TD says you'd most likely still be better off with a joint venture bike like a Sundiro or Wuyang Honda, Jianshe Yamaha, Haojue or Qingqi Suzuki etc. Not just for quality, but also for resale.
