Its a copy of the Honda VTR250 with a copy of the Yamaha XV250 engine, but the Lifan version does not offer the 21.76hp @7500rpm the original Virgo engine does.
Considering the low labor costs in china and that the model has minimal research and development cost, yeah the MSRP at $3,125.00 is high.
Its been covered before, the prices represent often more then half distribution and retail costs incurred in the USA. Its not cheaper on this side to support small offerings through a small dealer network. They actually have to pay more then the larger brands to distribute, they cannot spread the costs of doing so over a larger model line. That results in higher costs to distribute per unit and often at a very compromised level of support.
Thanks for all the info mjh greatly helped.
So the main reason why so many lifan bikes are as cheap as tgey are is mainly due to the fact most are 2007 and 2008 models
I do not see them as that cheap....were are you seeing them so cheap for sale.
I wish Lifan would make a SRV250 with that engine, I see the Virgo 250 copy they offer selling for $2,500, but its not for me.

They could offer different versions of it.

They can suggest what ever price they like, but anyone actually paying that price is another matter.
Distributors that sting their dealers will not get reorders from those dealers. Its a pretty vicious business model, distributors cannot maintain parts and support for free and dealer have overhead too. That is why half the cost of the bikes are on this side. They are cheap out of the factory and that is why they often have defects.
Cheap is what cheap gets.
Its not a naked style its just full fairing lifans but

Less than 1600 shipped
Anyone that would send a check to those people needs to have their head examined.
The website URL should be extreme-conartists.com
You have to find a valid source that is not a valid source.

You will not find the Lifan LF200iii for that price new. They stopped importing them at the 2009 model year. If you find them they will be in some Lifan dealers inventory.
Here is the local dealer to me…they have some of the Lf200 iii in stock.

One red and one green 2008 models and he is asking $1,899.00.
if you want to get one of those then check the dealers near you
Well put i stand corrected.
Was never interested in the lf200 models.
3100 to me is a bit pricey for a bike with less power than some japanese counterpart i could get used in the states. But thr naked 250 is one incredibly good looking bike
Compare it to the Hyosung 250 the naked has an MSRP of $3,799.00, a 27.2hp @10,000rpm v-twin. Nearly 10hp more and only for an additional $699.00.

The LF250-19 is a sheep in wolfs clothing and should be priced accordingly, its MSRP should be $2,799.00 and if Lifan cannot get them into dealers stock for under $2,000.00...they should get out of the market.

That bike really should have at least 20hp and EFI…it’s a failure if it cannot be marketed and sold in china as well as exported to other markets.
That is were they go wrong offering models that do not have international marketability and not doing that out of one production line. That one production line should be feeding global distribution systems.
That model will not meet regulation for domestic sales and in that they failed to offer it to the largest market. The largest market being the Chinese market.
Maybe they should request some assistance from MV Augusta to improve the engine to meet higher standards? It is not impossible to get the engine to a higher standard they can justify doing that if they are targeting a global market.
They should not be developing anything that cannot be sold in china, it makes no sense to develop a model that cannot be sold into the largest market and them actually being in that largest market.
They have to price to make sales, they have to make sales to gain market shares. They need that to happen in china and in other markets with the same offerings.
You just blew my mind and opened my eyes at the same time.
+1.
Its pretty safe to say that one element of the Lifan business model is engine production. Within Lifans production of engines is the V-250. Some of those engines are utilized in Lifan production motorcycles as a percentage of the total number manufactured. The other V-250 are sold to others manufacturers for their production motorcycles.
The entire engine supply as the entire production of V-250 could be directed into Lifan production models and not sold to others. If the engine was refined to attain the same output as the original and through EFI then Lifan would have a unique offering. That could be packaged in a variety of unique configurations.
