Call for No-Bike Night in Beijing
Hi there Beijing crew,
We spent the winter days maintaining our bikes, polishing our tools, checking and stocking up on gear, planning trips and dreaming of roads we rode last summer. But these days are now over and I think it is time to get in gear for 2012 with a No Bike Night.
To get things going, I suggest to meet this Friday, 24th Feb. around 19>30 at Cafe de la Poste. This place serves great steaks, pours cheap Beijing draft and what is most important, it is the watering hole of a local scooter club (some of the members ar in the cours of switching to CJs)

So, who's in?

Sounds great, except it might be a bit fancy for a poor farmer like me.

Hey Lion, would be great to see you there. Maybe you will tell us about what happened to your JH600...

Re: Call for Ni-Bike Night in Beijing
Lio Jia Hou, what you don't enjoy a nice kidney flamed in cognac with tagliatelles? Nong meng! Go eat a raw turnip! Unless that's what tagliatelles are, .... in which case eat a fried turnip!
I really would like to eat someplace where I could order quiche....

Hi fahni,I wish i can go there ,then we can have a talk about our motors.
Ok,let's talk about my JH600 here now,I bought JH600 in July last year,it was my first motor, I was totally newb at that time for being a rider. I took it as my lover, and it was a great motor accompanied with me for about three months and 7200km on it.I ever rode it to QingDao with my family,my wife drove car ,I rode JH600,whole jurney was on the expressway, took me about 7 or 8hours,heavily rain poured during the jurney, average more than 100km/h on the way,it's very reliable\powerful when you rushed pass a truck, what I wanna express,it's really a reliable motor...during the week,I took it as commute,on the weekend, rode to the mountain with my friends,I really got lots of fun from it.

I sold my JH600 in September last year, and bought a new one at that time,VFR1200F,till now,put 7600km on it.How to say it?I prefer this motor, especially the aotumatic dual-cluth transmission, but lots of fun using manual model when you are among the moutain roads...

Spring comes ,let's do a mountain team ride together someday?
I'll go skiing to HuaiBei International Ski Resort tomorrow with my motor. If anyone will go there, let me know it....
Cheers.

In fact the season is opened already. On our yesterday's short tour to MuTianYu we met a lot of bikers in large groups.

Hey all,

Scratchndent, thanks for organising and dinner and beers (and sodas for the ones who did not get the "no" in No-bike-night;-))

Re: Call for Ni-Bike Night in Beijing
Yes, it was great to join in, and thanks to S&D for organizing and hosting. It was very kind of him.
Great food, great drink, great people, great conversation. Perfect recipe for success.
As for "no-bike" ... hmmm ... a bike is my only means of transport. And besides, it was pleasant coming out of Kro's and seeing a few hot girls admiring my bike :)

Re: Call for Ni-Bike Night in Beijing
Dear LJH,
I'm the culprit who started the idea of (No-)Bike Night, at least here in Shanghai. In my home town north of the Golden Gate, we have a very well-attended Bike Night every Thursday night, rain or shine. Almost everybody rides in, and it's held in a breezeway between a Starbucks and a Chinese restaurant. No one drinks anything stronger than coffee or egg drop soup. Backs are slapped, legends are debunked, bikes are ogled or scorned, and everyone gets home safely.
It's a wonderful tradition that has lasted years, and I'd love to see it start up here in China too.
Maybe someday we'll have the critical mass of riders that will make it likely that more than one or two people to show up for such an event, but I'm not holding my breath. For a ton of reasons, mainly weather and the lack of appropriate meeting places, we Chinabikers tend to gather over meals and, well, libations. And while there are plenty of us who don't hesitate for second thoughts about riding home after a tipple or two, the law (uncompromising on drink driving), and the laws of nature, and the myriad issues relating to riding even sober in China, especially after dark, give me pause as to whether to encourage this kind of behavior by calling a Bike Night at which alcohol will be consumed.
That was the genesis of (No-)Bike Night in Shanghai. This is why god made taxis and buses and metros and bicycles and walking shoes. We've had plenty of guys show up on bikes for (No-)Bike Night, and some choose to drink. I tend to arrive by bicycle and drink within my limits, and thus can be accused of hypocrisy, or good sense, or both, or neither!
I just want everyone to get home safely, and to ride another day!
cheers
