Whoah Paul, that's a rare request, and a little bit too early for me ! :icon10:
Do you want those plates now, or are you able to wait until mid-June ? I have Hu A plates, 100% legal and ok for transfer, for my YBR250, which I will sell after my round-china trip this spring, 'cause I'll leave China after that.
No idea about the current price though : what is it up to nowadays, more than RMB 50,000 ?
Tell me if you're ready to wait, I'm interested for sure ! :mwink:
sorry for late reply fred, been away... i may be interested but i need in hurry .as
a. they going up weekly
b. i may be getting a bike sooner than i thought, cos my medical treatment is getting better sooner than i thought..
i was unable to walk till i started full chinese medication and treatment.so i cannot wait till i get on .
but until you sell your plates keep in touch and if i don't have by the time you go ill buy.
cheers
bi guys any one got any news on any plate for sale ????
Dear Paul,
I doubt you are going to find anyone in this forum who is prepared to part with a legal Shanghai plate. The latest word on the street is that 沪A plates are in such short supply that the price no longer mimics that of car plates, but now exceeds them. This past month the price of a car plate was 64,000 RMB, while that for a bike plate was 68,000 RMB. Not sure about 沪C plates, though these have been going for about 8000 RMB. Bike plates are not unavailable, they just are not being issued by the Vehicle Management Bureau and have not been for years. Worse yet, a bike plate can be transfered to a car, but a car plate cannot be transfered to a bike, so the absolute supply of bike plates shrinks every time a bike plate is bolted to a car. Hence the price premium.
Most dealers of long service know brokers who can obtain bike plates. Have you tried this option? PM me if you need an introduction.
Cheers!
64000-68000 RMB for a plate :rolleyes1: hate to think what they'll go for in ten years.:confused1:
I'm guessing some low life will threaten to kill you just for your plate.
Obscene, isn't it?
But a low life thief would not be able to cash in on a stolen plate's value unless he managed to get all your papers and go through a legal transfer process, which requires signatures and chops and fees to release the plate to a new owner. Replacing a stolen plate is a hassle, but costs only a couple hundred rmb.
cheers
euphonius, i was hoping i could find someone moving on n letting it go, just a punt. but after not being able to ride(or walk) for 5 years . i will do anything to get mounted again.
and about the cost n getting threatened for my plate. it just goes with the territory. paid a lot more for a lot less n been threatened for less before. 'shit append'...........
but as you said its no use to no one without the docs. I'm more worried about getting my ride stolen, or more so what would happen if i caught them in the act ..hahahaha
the truth is i live in central sh but can get n would go with a C licence, if i could be sure its just a fine and not fine and points for riding inner ring. and if i was parked they wouldn't impound my bike. if i could be sure of this then i will get a C. cos 8k ish for an C plus 20 x 200Y fine is still a lot less than 60k for an A....
i can even get an out of town plate for 200. but i found out i can't ride anywhere n if i do they impound it n send it back to the city its reg in. bugger.....
at the end of the day its about riding... so this is just a distraction.. a very expensive one, but when i looked in jan it was 52k last year 45k now 65k....to me thats a damn site more than u get in the bank.. i now its a risk as is everything. but you got to 'stand for something or you'll fall for anything'
cheers for the heads up, but i can get local and regional thru certain friends n family. locals get a lot of things done, but bitch just the same about the price of plates. a lot use out of town plates on the cars, but not many use bikes except the weekend harley types, like a a couple of friends who bike out to their yachts at the weekend, and i guess they don't need to worry about the cost .....
Hi Paul

Just saw this thread, I completely missed it before.
Paul, we already started to "talk" by PM, and I will send you a new one in a few minutes : please know I'm indeed selling the bike + the Shanghai Hu A plates as soon as I'm back in town (we're right now in Qingdao, Shandong), which will be around June 15th.
As for everything to be perfectly clear and transparent, I think I'll ask a very reasonable price for the bike considering our perfect condition : RMB 15,000 (bought new at 23,500 RMB less than 1 year ago, and the bike will have around 16,000km on the clock when we're back in Shanghai.
Soberpete may even attest to the very good and smooth running of the bike, as we swapped no sooner than yesterday for a while ! :lol8:
I'll PM you now.
Cheers,
Edit : oh and before anyone ask : I'm selling the bike and the plates after the round-China trip just because we're leaving China on July 1st : I got a very good job offer back in France, and after 10 years in China, I think it is time for me to go home ! The round-China trip was kind of our "good-bye trip" to China.
Anyway as I promised before, I'll post a full ride report here with lots of pics ! And I'll continue to ride in France, of course !
Fred
prince, good for you matey . i really not upset if you can get a ride and legit for your coin. its all good. we just have different ideas on what we want and what is good n necessary.
i am happy with what i have and what i want and i clearly see you are ecstatic with your choice. so happy trails and keep the rubber side down.
hi
thanks to anyone who read,or helped with a dice and offers. but i bit the bullet and bought a plate. passed test and legal rider.
IF ANYONE WANTS HELP IN PASSING MULTI CHOICE TEST JUST ASK. I HAVE A FEW LISTS AND WEB PAGES AND FRIENDS WHO HELPED ME WHO ARE WILLING TO HELP OTHERS.SOME FREE SOME CHARGE, BUT THE ADVICE AND 'QUESTION PATTERNS' ETC I DEVISED ARE FREE.
i applied on 14/6 and was given 4/7 as earliest date, but after my friend heard she spoke to her and got me tests on the 14/6-15/6-18/6 each day,she also obtained all my paperwork for me.including the medical!!!! i took my test without looking at the questions and got 82%. i spoke to a guy who runs an english speaking driven agency, who happens to be the husband of one of the officers on duty,he doesn't really like western clients because they let him down and mess him about, but he agreed if i can send him some guys he can help train and pass anyone, but he is a business so a reduced rate but not free..sorry.....
other officers directed us outside to the shops to buy the 300 bank questions they use for 500y....DO NOT DO THIS it is a con, the national data base is random, comprised of all the questions.
anywho. after taking advice i refined my revision based on his webbsite, found all the patterns and all the rules he has listed and made some lists. this way i did not even have to read the questions just look for key words and answers and its easy.
i studied for 6 hours. 1 day, next day went back in 15mins passed 99%.
another guy went in before me,came out long after and told me he got 81% on his 4th attempt. i gave him my paperwork and details of the web.(sorry i only had a 1 week key.) he emailed me this week and told me his next test he got 96%. happy bunny
if i get time i will list the patters and the rules, but as i gave him my notes and i don't have access to the web it could be difficult, and long winded. but i can still help where possible.
good riding and stay rubber side down.
paul
just a pick of the bike, bit smaller than I'm used to and a lot lot slower, but does the job and cost next to nowt, so gonna get a lot of improvements and some matching luggage. I'm just happy to be mobile no more no less. its just about riding...

Congrats on the Regal Raptor purchase... I can't tell from the photo but is it a DD250 or 350cc?
I rode one round here that a local dealer had got in for a foreigner who'd paid a deposit but then backed out at the time when he was meant to collect it and pay the balance. I didn't know the guy personally but a mutual acquaintance invited me to come look at if it for him, as he had little to noot motorcycle experience. He actually wanted to buy it to then strip out the motor and tranny and use the rolling chassis as the basis for a e-bike. Go figure. Anyway he decided on a Regal Raptor 150 standard style bike. He had no license or anything and wasn't planning to license it. He ended up riding it, and some of his friends too without plate or insurance - just asking for trouble and worse makes it worse for the rest of us.
Well now I along with the rest of the MCM crew I'm sure wait for review...
hi matey
its a 350cc but feels more like a 300. not sure cos i really never rode anything less than gt550, and that was at 16. and never a cruiser. unless u class a z1300 6 cyl kwaker a cruiser. and really most my bikes been nutter kilo racer things. even my bike i bought for passing my test was the first ever restricted 125cc bikes to reach 120mph.. it was a honda mbx125 that was 'stan stevens' tuned. (had the same bore n stoke as a rg500 suki ) it was featured in MCN and rode around donington by the legendary 'rocket' ron haslam and speed timed to 128mph. i would love to say i did all that but no... i bought it pre slippy from sm racing in peterborough. i had it rebored and stretched some more to up it to 140mph then got bored myself haha with it and sold it cos i also had a gikser and wanted a z1000....but i digress.
the bike is actually solid. not welded very pretty but got some nice bits on it. stops well and suspension is actually quite good.
TYRES ARE A DEATH TRAP. some non-discript ying yang crap.that in the wet actually feel like they are flat.... totally swopping for some bridget bt102 or whatever is available here. but bugger they gorra go. i been riding one thing or another for close to 40 o my tender 44 yr, and i never wore a tyre out on the centre before the edges, but these things will kill you on a straight road but try taking a bend it will murder you your family and go find your dog and murder it too. seriously bad. they actually tracked round a drain cover today and when i went down the ramp which was less moist than a 50 year old nun,and it tried to chuck me off all the way. i scared the security guard to death cos i cracked the throttle and punched it sideways round the turn cos i was gonna just pile straight into his booth thing. hilarious, i dunno what chinese is for 'i just shit my pants' but i think i just heard it.
there are some good rear mirrors on it to. stable and good non reflection. (my taiwanese wife actually asked me why i looked back over my shoulder ,in UK its called a ''life saver'' and you actually fail your test for missing just 1, instead of just using my mirror.) the seat is good and as i have a shoulder issue its amazing i can ride for a while on it. vibration isn't a bad as some say, its like a 3 speed rabbit when you let it gallop,(so i been told..the rabbit) but you can still use the mirrors and control it comfortably. maybe the slightly larger engine makes it ok , but it is heavy so i dunno. i found it ok.
it is all steel,no flimsy plastics or pressed ally nonsense, it really is steel and more steel. so when i event;ly get sliced and can't stop and clobber sumat i hope its not a volvo cos anything else will come off worse. i on the other hand will be dead but shit appens.
the electrics are all solid, wet or dry. and they are well thought out, including places to plug direct into a charger for the battery, places to add alarms and a circuit dedicated for the ciggy lighter power adapter job,so i was told.
when i bought it it kept flashing the 'efi' light. it turned out the alternator thingy was cock.so it was replaced and als fine now. dealer sorted it and came to me to replace it. now i know some will say oh look broken already ,chinese crap etc etc.... i have had a merc 36amg delivered and 2 days later the auto boot failed and 2 weeks later the syncro went in 6th gear, 2 gearbox replacements later and i got fed up with all the crap... so it happens ok.
other than that light are ok and indicators clear and usable. bit too flexible so will get some led. 2 things not on, that i don't like are they don't self cancel or activate a noise if left on...not that i too. ahem.. and the side stand doesn't cut the engine if you engage gear whilst its down.. the bracket mount is there for it but ''it'' is non existent.. guess only on the export models ehh. again done that once and i can assure you when you do it once you NEVER EVER do it again. i never ever got the smell out those trousers.... jeers
im not an accessory type guy, so ill add what i want to make it mine but no bling or toss, i will be adding the obligatory HD logo but its gonna say
HARDLY DAVIDSON
not a typo, just i think its funny.
i have however just ordered some matchin white n black stripe pannys so i can go away.

and will also remove the cat,cos its just a bolted in piece o pipe with does restrict its breathing and looks ugly, and i keep catching my feet on the flange.
also the pipes keep the side stand low,and i keep grinding it, so that so i gotta move that in a bit. or stop getting lost and doing u turns...
but seriously. i cannot fault it. i really can't. great value for money. the dealer is seriously good, cannot do enough for me. and although he is the only official peaugot dealer , he had no problem in ordering and reg this for me nd my mates benelli 600. i think when i do get my brace o Harleys , i may even go thru him,cos he was able to help ''hide'' some o the charges and get the bike for lower than taoboa. ret. 28k he was nearer 21k . even sourced gen, shoei helmets as well. (i think he also wears his pants outside his trousers and an S on his chest, not sure but just a hunch )
ok nuf said. it does what it says on the tin, cost very little, delivers a lot for the coin. and i had nothing but low expectations and it has delivers high on most everything. so it is what it is. a cheap chinese bike that i can get my leg over and don't have to bend down or stretch my arm to ride. looks ok and sound ok and the rest is yet to be seen. so if anyone wanters to ride and is genuine and not a ''shanghai disease'' motobike convert, i would love to get together and go visit places.
Dear Paul,
Congratulations on the new Raptor, and good decision to work with Yang Jie and his Peugeot shop, which is called Shanghai Huageng Motorcycles. They are very good people there, and do work that is thorough and professional at a reasonable price.
If you don't mind my asking, which plate did you go for -- the 沪A or 沪C -- and what did it set you back. We've heard plate prices have softened a bit in the past month, so hope you got a bit lucky.
Ride safe!
hey euphonius,
it was an A plate. i paid an all in price inc bike etc etc , but i think i paid around 68k. my friend bought another the next week and paid same. i gonna buy another cos i have info to say it will be around 10k by the end o year and...the gov are gonna rule that only owners of bikes can buy plates and have to register it direct to another bike in there name in transfer, this is to try to stop the price climbing out of control... with seems strange considering the whole idea is to stop bikes fully.... instead it helps everyone out....dont figure..
yup my mind goes back n forth between gbp n yuan..
