Dear Motofan,
Welcome to MCM. So how about posting some pix of your ride. No harm in it being Japanese. We've got some factions here in China who are claiming Okinawa is part of China anyway...
The day may not be too far off that Kawasaki start making that KLX in China. The big Japanese brands are starting to make some interesting moves in China.
cheers!
I need to get batteries for my camera then I can take some pixs of the KLX.
Some china made Kawasaki bikes would be nice.
I like the KLX250SF, I have seen online publication underrate its hp, the bike has 17kw, that is 23.12hp.
These are the actual ratings for the models from the manufacturer.
Model=======Engine Code======Engine - cc=========Rated Power==Power Units
EX250J8=====EX250JE=========249===============24== =======kW
KLX250T9====LX250DEA========249===============17== =======kW
KL250G9=====KL250GE=========249===============15.5 =======kW
The last model is the Super Sherpa, here is one on Ebay for sale.
I did not know the KLX has 23 hp because I had read somewhere that it had less. Thanks for the information.
The KLX is fun to ride. Hopefully Kawasaki will sell more of them in the US market. (Last year sold is 2010.)
This is a pic of my KLX250sf

Fixed I hope.
They are still selling those, they have 2012 models.
They stopped selling the SM version? That’s a disappointment. But it makes your resale stay high though on yours only option is the S.
The KLX250SF are very cool, I think, what is that growing in the field, looks like potatoes.
MJH, those are soy beans growing in the field. Appropriate background since soy beans are exported to Asia and my KLX was exported from Asia.
Even though I like my bike, I would like to see Kawasaki (or some manufacturer) make a new KLX250sf with more power.
Others have said that about that bike, I have never ridden one. Is their another 250cc single your comparing it to, or are you just craving a more powerful motorcycle?
The only bikes I have right now are both 200cc one is twin and the other a single, neither are very powerful. I would not complain if they both had more power but they are what they are.
I imagine that if I got on your KLX I would perceive it as much faster then both of my bikes? If you road mine you might think; how can he stand it? I do not mind, really I enjoy getting the most out of a small engine, in the way I ride them, both have no serious trouble getting up to the speed limit and not much trouble getting over it either.
But I think I really want is lower end power, that being from a stop to 35mph. I want it to be smooth and not sound like it is struggling. But with these small bike that is all about shifting fast. That’s not hard to get used to and can be very fun. I am racing and everybody else is just cruising. They tell me get a bigger bike, I reply I am not unhappy, they seemed confused.

It is entirely possible for a slightly more powerful version with a Loncin 300cc version of the engine.
This is the style bike I would like to see that 300cc show up in. http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/y...ncin/2s300.jpg
MJH, your are right a 250 is a 250. Some have "decorked" the KLX250 with better air intake and exhaust. However, the 250 is limited in it's power output.
I would like to see a KLX350sf with the same weight and handling of a KLX250SF.
I also like the flat-tracker influence in the pix that you posted.
Not when it has EFI, the D-tracker is said to have a lot of potential, one described it as scary power?

I think it could be an exciting time to work at Kawasaki/Loncin if they want it to be. There are lots of opportunity in that JV.
Why not release the EFI version in the US? Kawasaki should make a 2013 KLX300SF EFI.
That’s a legitimate question, I see the 300cc being manufactured at Loncin and also that they are at the table so to speak with Kawasaki, a 300cc model line with EFI to me seems globally marketable? I think the only difference between the 250cc and the 300cc is the cylinder bore?
I could be wrong but I think that a 300cc version with EFI of the grass track style bike above could be very popular, really nothing like it exists today.
I think that they could be branded Loncin and sold through Kawasaki dealers? If I was Loncin I would want some rights to global distributions and for some specific engines the 300cc being one. They are already offering it, the engine to others.
Is it just me? Because if a major brand gives access to its distribution network to a partner then wouldn’t that partner become empowered by that and then they both benefit.
