All that and no ride reports or pictures? :lol8:
Great review with plenty of wisdom for those who think more is more and less is never enough.

Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
FYM exchanges technology with Yamaha Taiwan, claim that they have former engineers from Yamaha in their staff. They also have a relationship with SACH.
Guangzhou Panyu Huanan Motors Group Co.Ltd.
They refer to the company as the "Eagle".
They would be my choice to develop the CMX250, they manufacture the engine already and could sell it through SACH.
Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
Monsieur Montigny, is the stock air filter managed to cope with dusty Mongolian roads, or better to write - lines of traffic?
Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
Hi Zorge
Surprisingly the air filter didn't have a problem. But it's a pain in the ass to dislodge from the chassis, so i have only ever opened it twice. I have driven in four sandstorms and sand never seems to be trapped in the filter. Twice with the 150, once with a CJ750 and once with a Jialing JH600.
You had issues with yours ?
Alex
Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
Well, no - foam filter on my tiller is packed in small cylindrical box, which is very accessible for inspection and any intervention.
I ask for the filter on your bike because I know two things. First is that most roads in Mongolia, to put it mildly, are very dusty, and the second is that on few different Chinese made motorcycles I saw not very well engineered and made air filter assemblies.
Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
In my case airfilter was not an issue. If I could have had a properly sealed tank, a good fuel filter with a seethrough decanter to check water level in the fuel, i think it would have saved me time. And the JH600 and CJ750 I was talking about drove all the way to France on the silk road and they just had issues with fuel lines. Well the CJ had issues with everything :) and the JH was typically jialinged : first the injection messes up in high altitude, then stalls for no reason, and you need a computer and a degree in electronics to figure out what's wrong. Eventually the whole injection calculator had to be replaced. You can add this issue to the many Jialing 600 posts of other people on this website : )

I can't seem to add pics to my original post so here goes.
This is a picture of the bike in white once it was painted matt white and black. My wife seems happy there, but actually it was her first road trip and she hated leaning in the curves: a short 200km drive through the mountains of Kunyushan. It took her 6 months to get used to being on a motorcycle even though I never corner. But now she loves the bike and considers it a real good means of transportation: not just a boy toy.

Matt black and white from sanvo
That's the olive green paint that I am going with. Antique Bronze from Sanvo. www.sanvo.com.cn about 7 rmb for matt or shiny and 10rmb for metal finish. You would need 2 bottles for tank and fairings if U use a dark color but for matt white you need twice as much. Please note that the traffic police do not authorize painting a bike (your licence holds a picture with the original color) so when I got pulled over I just said it was temporary antirust paint and that the painter was going to restore it to it's original color when the coating dried up. Blablabla. No big deal.

Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
Heavy-duty filter with decanter is a good thing, but sometimes the problem may be lack of space for its installation.
A propos frequent paint jobs: Alex, are you thinking of buying a few acres (you'll surely get a quantity discount) of a car wrap vynil/film/sticker in different colors, so that every week you can change the color of your bike? :icon10:
Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
Yeah, i could film wrap it like a sandwich. Painting is an issue with this bike : the first time you paint over because you don't want your quasi new bike to look so old. But if you buy cheap aerosol paint - the sanvo 7 rmb sprays that you can find at any hardware shop - the paint job just lasts for a year. So that's one of the reasons why you might want to buy a Honda or a Yamaha : they are too expensive but i've seen CB's and 125ybr G's with 50000km + and not a spec of rust.
Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
I doubt that will ever be satisfied with that spray paint. Simply, you need a specialist who will do the job by the book.
Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
I never liked the front end of the bike. The rear might look classic but the square headlight was like a cheap version of a 1992 Ninja...with all but 11 hp in stock. You can't blame the designers for trying, but then every other blue dump tricycle that you meet on the street is a reminder of how little design is put in those bikes: they all have the same pseudo sports fairing and flammed stickers.
I have bought a new round headlamp, metal mounts and indicators. I will restore the bike to what it should be: a naked roadster - which is the way it is sold in Austria. You can check it on http://www.sachsbikes.com.au/media/Express.pdf Call it motorcycle Karma.
Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
The SACH X-Road 250 has the Zongshen 230cc engine, that is a Yamaha based designs.

http://i784.photobucket.com/albums/y...shen/gs250.jpg
They only seem to be offering that model in AUS?
SACH does not offer it on its website, they have an overrated 150cc listed at one time the bike had a 125cc actually originally it did. This article on MCN refers to it as a 125cc SOHC…but the engine really looks like a twin cam?

Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
Hi MJH,
You are quite the source of information. Cheers for the adress of the FYM website. I was starting to think they had completely dissapeared.
Back to the part about the change of headlight on my ride : I was able to buy on Taobao the parts to replace a square headlight with windshield by a naked round one.
Attachment 8257
The parts are actually Lifan originals. It was extremely easy apart for the cables which had to be reconnected above the shock's lower clamp - and not under. You might enjoy this if you are a hairdresser and you like fixing dreadlocks, but i am no good with cables so it took me an hour.
Attachment 8259
Anyway now the lights are working so I will drive the bike this afternoon, will check that the shocks are parrallel and will tighten the bolts with a torque spanner after the test drive.

I wouldn't go as far as to say she's a beauty but some ordinary teenage girls turn into hot mummies : same goes with the 150 which has much more sex appeal and will not grow old with this new albeit classic face.
P.S: that's before the facelift :

Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
Dear Montigny02,
The retro headlight looks really excellent -- a vast improvement over the schlocky plastic setup. Please feel free to post more pictures!
Great work!
Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
M. Montigny, are the reflector and lamp lenses made of glass or plastic?
Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
Thanks Euphonius. I appreciate.
China, China, China. A land where you can make anything out of solid recycled tin can, a land that boasts the finest plastics from the renowned factories of Guangzhou and where workers, highly qualified in Mahjiang and driven by Baijiu, assemble relentlessly couscous machines, indoor rowers and even the parts of your FIAT or Peugeot and even Volvo back in France/Italy/the US of A... No seriously Zorge, the lamp i bought is crap plastic plus low grade metal. That's the reason why i paint my bike all the time: even if the sprays are cheap, they keep the rust away.
Cheers,
Alex
Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
Solutions for us, C-moto riders, can often come from unexpected places: I know guys who pulled out bad plastic headlights and set glass reflectors and lamp lenses taken from tractor headlights. It appears that this is one of the few remaining places where you can see the real, round headlights. So, when you find yourself near a store with parts for agricultural machinery...
I have to mention one more time: I do not think you'll be able to get rid of corrosion simply by covering it with a new layer of paint. Without a thorough removal of corrosion and preparation for painting, application of primer, good paint and, if you had opportunity, final coat, you can't count that you solved this problem.

Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
This bike is so simple that taking it apart takes about 3 hours tops. I wanted to open it up so I could clean the chassis, check the weldings for rust and if necessary brush/weld and coat with antirust. After being parked in the rain for one year in Chengdu, I was expecting a few serious repairs but there only was superficial corrosion and weldings were absolutely rust free. Only the box that forms the battery support was really rusty and I can't say I really care. The day it brakes, it brakes and I'll have a welder add a few metal reinforcements.
Attachment 8659
It's aways nice being with a buddy when you take the engine down, and my friend Mike was very interested in helping: he wants to buy himself a bike and finds the prospect of maintenance overwelming. Opening a motorcycle is a good way of demystifiying maintenance operations. And all those canto-125's are glorified bicycles anyway.

A bit of black on the handlebars won't hurt but it's just cosmetic as it's a non rust alloy.

Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
And after 3 months of uneventful winter, my dearest motorbike has resumed active service in 4 kicks. Well the battery is dead but i already knew that. Anyway it looks better than ever with brand new clean chassis from last paint job and ready to enter it's fourth year. Yes i got it on March 23, 2009 and I still love her.
Re: FeiYing FYM 150-3 2009
THIS IS IT.
Well we had a good run but this is the end. My bike had been unused and dare I say, unloved for the past six months. With two baby strollers two bicycles and a e-bike in my garage, there was simply no space for my motorbike. Meaning no space either in my garage or in my schedule.
So one of my friends friends has made me an offer and I sold it this afternoon for 1200RMB. Technically it should have been sold for more but with no Jiangsu plates or insurrance, it wasn't street legal.
In the end that motorbike will have given me excellent memories and has saved me a lot of money. Total cost of ownership :
6000RMB for the bike 3500 for fuel and 500RMB in extras. Plus maybe 1000 in transportation to Shandong/Sichuan/Jiangsu. And then it saved me about 8000RMB in taxi costs when i was living in Shandong (where I used 1000 rmb taxi per months during winter). I cannot truly say this motorbike has saved me money but it has practically not cost me a penny.
As soon as my kids reach 18, I will buy a new one.
