My new YBR250 that will take me around China
Hi,
As promised Im posting some pics of my new Yamaha YBR250. I bought the bike just over a week ago and till now i have only 430km on the clock. Ive changed oils 3 times already. Before I even rode it I had changed that yamalube stuff that factory puts inside and Ive replaced it with this Motul 3000. Than Ive changed oil at 50km and 250km. Will do one more change at 500km and at 1500km but her ill put some synthetic as it should be broke it by then.
Apart from few things the bike has been great and real fun.
Gears are a bit strange cos they dont change as smoothly as Ive expected (sometimes hard sometimes smooth) but then again, I have nothing to compare so I dunno. Maybe It should be this way. The breaks are also not great (my scooter has better) but they are still new so Ill give them some time before I complain ;)
Ive put some hand guards on the bike. Soon Ill be getting windshield and crash bars, and I will also ask some local steel shop to make a skid board as I might run into some harsh terrain in western China and Mongolia. Ill be putting these tires on before my trip http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=...id=17337658701 and http://item.taobao.com/item.htm?spm=...d=18387559684&
I will post some pics of the bike here with the new stuff.

very nice Yamaha you have there, I would just let the gearbox wear down as it'll still be very fresh in there so needs more km's to get comfortable.

Re: My new YBR250 that will take me around China
Nice pics! I have the exact same bike (same color) and am very happy with it. Fantastic bike for extended China rides. Enjoy.
Re: My new YBR250 that will take me around China
Beautiful bike, beautiful pix. Good choice on the hand guards. Nice to see your bike's scenery sniffer is working. Moganshan?
More pix always welcome...
cheers
Re: My new YBR250 that will take me around China
Cool bike, my friends sober Pete has one in the same color. He's not had any problems with his, other than a bit of unwanted corrosion, so keep it dry as much as possible.
You're not wrong with the oil changes, you can never do too many, I don't trust Chinese Yamalube either, the Chinese motorcycle market demands cheap prices, quality be damned. Don't much like the Honda oil either.
Re: My new YBR250 that will take me around China
Thanks guys. Ill be posting more pics here.
So far Ive been only ride in within Taizhou, all the mountains from pics are about 40km from my district and I never knew that there are so many wee roads there that are just exhilarating to ride on. Im quite happy discovering those parts and also lots of gear changing so its good for running in

It doesn't get much better than this (or this), at least in east China....
You are going to have a great season!
cheers
Re: My new YBR250 that will take me around China
This reservoir is what ive been riding around. Will get my girl and maybe will go to this hotel felix mentioned.
I like Taizhou a little bit more now ;)
Re: My new YBR250 that will take me around China
Ive done 1000km and all is going great. Gears and front break are better than before and today i even noticed that it goes faster then before at the same revs ;)
Im riding around Taizhou and its amazing! roads are not always great but views and countryside simply stunning. I was lucky today and it was a day with less smog and air pollution than usually so visibility was a bit better and i managed to snap few pics of the surroundings.

I changed tires for an on-off road ones. The new CST tires are about 10 times better then the ones that come with the bike. I felt more firm on the road.

As you can see on the pic above I mounted cheap PVC windshield (already lost one part that covered screws......)
It wasnt easy to install it as I already had hand guards on. I needed to make it work so its not very straight but at least I can see the speedo clearly.

Re: My new YBR250 that will take me around China
Quality pics dude.
So the CST tires are good then? Good to see more mid-range options coming out of china. I have a fair bit of riding to do to wear out my current soles but i'll give these a shot next.
Re: My new YBR250 that will take me around China
Beautiful posts, gorgeous bike. Wonderful having this just out your back door. How far do you have to ride to get to the good stuff?
Keep it coming!
Did you buy the rubber online? Lots of sizes available?
cheers

Re: My new YBR250 that will take me around China
It really isnt far to get to those beautiful little roads that Ive never knew about before Ive bought a bike ;) about 30-40min ride
I bought my tires here http://csttires.taobao.com/?spm=2013...76394.1.0skdrK
Not great choice but there are a few
Not sure if these tires are good but am sure they are much better than what I had ;)
Re: My new YBR250 that will take me around China
A quick update on fuel consumption:
I was about to go to the mountain and didnt want to run out of juice so I went to get some and to my surprise 11.6L got me from 1 bar on my indicator to 6 bars. The whole tank is 19L. That means it uses about 2.5L/100km.......quite good news ;)
Can someone tell me whats the reserve indicator on YBR250? I thought reserve starts when there is only 1 bar but my manual says reserve is around 4.7, or something like this, so its clearly not 1 bar ;)

I have too many bikes to remember the specific details of each of them, but I seem to recall that the YBR250 fuel indicator starts to flash with no bars showing - I also seem to recall that there is a period of time when no bars are showing, before the indicator starts to flash. Sorry, I don't know how much fuel is remaining in the tank when the indicator starts to flash.
Personally, though, I have never found a motorcycle's fuel gauge to be accurate. I just keep an eye on my trip odometer, and reset it at each fill.
Hope you are enjoying the bike - I think it is a great bike for China.
Re: My new YBR250 that will take me around China
Thanks LJH,
Bike is great, if my calculations are right it looks like i can do over 700km on one tank......quite unbelievable, I ve probably miscounted or something but if not ill be very happy. My trip around China starts on the 7th of May!!!! Happy Times ;)

You are probably correct. I think I once saw that "CST" stood for Cheng Shin Tire - that innocuous label is likely more easily marketed outside China.
Re: My new YBR250 that will take me around China
Hi Guys,
Does anyone know of any good rear suspension replacement for a YBR? The original one is too soft. When i was on a trip it wasnt great. Me (around 75kg) + 3boxes, rack and the lagguage (around 50-60kg) and I needed to be very careful. Even on some G roads I needed to ride slower as i would normally do because of it. It would notoriously bottom out.
Result is that Id like to go on some few day trip two up but Im simply worried that it wont be fun

Re: My new YBR250 that will take me around China
Hello everybody!
I have a bike like this post but the YBR250 red in color and produced in Brazil.
Could anyone know where I can buy the original set of stickers like the photo below?

Thank you!
Re: My new YBR250 that will take me around China
So i finally decided to change my exhaust. I decided to go for the IXIL carrera (OY 920) one over the others cos this is a complete exhaust system and not just a slip on muffler. There is a choice of two, normal or stainless steel. I bought the normal one cos I like black exhausts and it was also few hundred cheaper. I didnt expect the exhaust pipe to be stainless steel but it is (at least looks like it) and it was a nice surprise!
http://i1326.photobucket.com/albums/...ps36aa920a.jpg
after seeing the above picture I was a bit worried that its just gonna be ugly but the sound of my bike bothered me a lot so I bought it and was surprised again. It looks much better then the one on the official pic haha the welding is still ugly tho
I wanted to install everything by myself but had problem with removing the old one. Took it to mechanics and it turns out there was a problem with unscrewing and then screwing back the bolt that goes into the cylinder. It took them about 2 hours to fit the exhaust on. 20min or so for putting it on and the rest of the time fiddling with that one bolt.
Im incredibly pleased with the result! My old YBR sounds infinitely better hen before and it feels more responsive. Not really faster or more powerful but more tolerant on high gears and low revs. To be honest I dont really like the looks much but the sound gives me tingles :)
sorry for the quality of pics but I only had my phone
