I dont know.
Could be real, could be fake. Although there is no evidence that he is going to jail, that does seem to be police motorcycle impound yard. The law does state that those things can happen but I've never heard of it in 7 years here, other than rumors.
I think the bike has Hubei plates. Maybe the plates are fake and he's getting in trouble because of that and no insurance as well, rather than the license problem.
There was a case a few years back of a 4ner who rode his bike from Chengdu to Yaan without plates or license or helmet. He was apparently arrested.
I think they will arrest you but either you've got to be one holier than thou dick-head or the cop has a real axe to grind.
Either way, that guys bike was in trouble! Maybe he was riding inside a ring road?

Some years back, a European guy on a business visa was driving a car without license in Rizhao, Shandong. He killed a lady one night, being drunk, and was detained for 3 or 4 weeks down there before he has been released into house arrest (after Embassy intervention) into a BJ hotel (at his own cost of course). Reputedly, 100k EUR compensaiton made him leave China - forever. I personally know this guy btw.
Causing death by dangerous drunk driving would probably get anyone forced to pay massive compensation and deported, whether they had a Chinese license or not.Quote:

Video from my Nokia N72. I was pulled over on May 2nd, 2008 for being a foreigner. I was then taken to jail for 7 nights then kicked out of the country for not having a proper Chinese drivers license. They kept the sidecar. This was the last time I was in it. There were at least half a dozen police motorcycles escorting me to the police station along with the cop driving my sidecar. I then went directly to jail for a week.
If you were punished under Chinese law, death by drunk dangerous driving would probably get around 7-15 years in jail. I think that deportation and banishment was an alternative to prison as he was a foreigner.Quote:

A WEEK, HE GOT A WEEK...... I FREAKING GOT 11 DAYS.... well the extra day is a long story......
Driving without a license.... 2 years ago:thumbsup:
now i got friends in low places, which can be helpful
first thing i did when moving to Beijing was to take care for driving license ...
questions where somehow funny but not a big deal
rather than driving without insurance or even fake-plates i think is more critical to ride without the license!
if you have a accident you have to pay anyway coz you´re the foreigner with more money than most locals - sofor me also ridin' without insurance might not be so critical ...
also i heard that fro Beijing they already have a police-squad only for foreigners pulling motorcycles in the city without Jing-plate - heard the bike from a brazilian guy was confiscated coz' he was driving around sanlitun-lu with fake-plates ...
on my sidecar i have Hebei-plates but never drive into innercity ...
on my solo i have yellow Jing-a-plates but never ever been stopped!
I was pulled over by motorcycle cop in front of IKEA this past weekend. Didn't yet have my license, so I was practically shitting bricks when he told me to stop my bike. Fortunately (VERY FORTUNATE) I had my little blue vehicle license book with me, and when he asked for my license I simply handed that over to him instead. He thumbed through it for about 10 seconds, handed it back to me, and told me to have a nice day. My bike has been parked since, with no plans to take it outside my gated parking lot until I get that license.
Very lucky you had a nice cop there! That could have easily gone wrong very fast if he was having a shitty day...
impressive stories here ...
up to now the traffic police stopped me on my 150ccm QingQi a few times, no driver license, no plate, no insurance ...
and always let me go with a friendly smile - in western countries no chance! That's another view of China ...
however, next days i will do the exam for my license but up now no idea, how to get a legal plate for my bike!
Thanks! I think that you should know more opinions and then decide what you need to do. Best of everything!
You do need a legal licensw for when SHIT HITS FAN, don't randomly believe the common BS from White trash in China as plenty have bad stories but not around to tell the tail.
It can be fairly easy enough or very complex depending the route you need or are able to take.
