JH600, the ugliest bike in the world! Can it be made nice?
I have purchased a wrecked (well accident damaged) and abandoned in the rain for a year 2008 JH600.
I have yet to collect it (it's sitting in Yangshuo) I have the paperwork, the keys and a train ticket for the 26th. It was running when it was parked, but it was parked in the elements and I have no idea how bad it is, I've even heard that the oil filler cap was missing :( I'll be taking a lot of tools, oil, a battery, chain and whatnot with me to try and get it running and if I do I'll ride it back to Huizhou to my workshop, if I can't get it running I'll ship it back.
I've been mucking about customising bikes in my little workshop "Churchill Custom's" for more than a year now, so I'm really looking forward to this massive challenge "making the ugliest alien bug looking bike ever made... Pretty".
Stay tuned for more!

I wish you good luck. You can find parts and farkles for these on taobao. I even have Wilbers rear shock and springs on mine.

Mat Black...

Surgically remove the headlight, try to keep the cluster intact.
Use a custom designed welded crash bar to support a new headlight and front fascia. You could take some body part off a Xingue XY400?

+1 Matt black
if you want to sell it on quickly make it look like a Beemer.
gotta be fixable I'd have thought, just a question of how much it needs in parts.
popcorn ready

Not necessarily.
This one exist as, for example, "Stels" 400 GS.

Re: JH600, the ugliest bike in the world! Can it be made nice?
The JH600 has a plastic tank under its plastic body parts. Taking off all the plastic will not make it any prettier. It has a perimeter frame with a plastic tank nested inside and then covered in plastic body panels, the results, it looks like it swallowed an egg.

It would probably not be impossible to use RX3 body parts on its frame.

The RX3 could potentially set global sales records.

Don't call my baby ugly! Only I can do that!!
Re: JH600, the ugliest bike in the world! Can it be made nice?
IMO, the bike doesn't look like it could be massaged into anything stylish. Yet, I'm very interested in how it will turn out. I would probably look at bikeexif.com for inspiration of some sort. They usually post nice bikes there.
What I would (probably) do
- remove and simplify the headlight (round one would do)
- remove the tank and replace it with something that looks like a CB1000 tank (if possible)
- remove the plastic side panels and see if I could fabricate mesh covers instead
- reroute the exhaust
- modify the subframe and give it a different seat (probably a desert sled type???)
- somehow (no ideas here) work with the visual length of the motorcycle, trying to make it be less cumbersome. Front fender probably???
- neat speedo cluster
Overall my aim would've been creating something more visually lightweight, something that looks in one piece and is less plasticky. yet I'd want it be functional with proper fenders and comfortable seat / bars / pegs setup.
I wouldn't want to loose off-road capabilities in any way, so I'd stick with dual sport tires.
My 5 cents.
Re: JH600, the ugliest bike in the world! Can it be made nice?
Rode one from Laos back to Xishuangbanna about 1000km so here is my 2cents worth.
Ditch all the bodywork the seat and the rear shock. The engine is nice and the brakes and front end are ok. As Texas Aggie is using a Wilburs rear shock that's a good place to start.
The seat... I don't know if it is just my enormous testicular circumference but that seat , the way it turns up at the front is just terrible..
Good luck I hope you can get it going somehow and don't be shy removing stuff from it. Nothing to lose I reckon.

Any update on the JH600 project bike?
