CFMOTO 650 aka Hartford Diablo
Hey guys I have had my CFMOTO 650 (here in Taiwan its known as a Hartford Diablo) for about 2 weeks now, its a year only but only has 2000km on the clock.
I'm not sure whether my bike has a problem or not so I'm seeking some help from you guys. The main problem I have with it is the way it revs from idle, it doesn't seem very smooth.
For example it doesn't matter if the bike is hot or cold when it is idling and I twist the throttle quickly the revs build up normal but when I release the throttle they seem to hang higher up and them drop down. Does that make sense? If not I can record a video for you.
Also now and again I will hear a backfire but its not coming from the exhaust but sounds like its coming from inside the airbox, is that normal?
The engine "ignition" light isn't on so the edu hasn't picked up a fault anywhere. Is there anything I can do to find out if there is a sensor problem somewhere.
Re: CFMOTO 650 aka Hartford Diablo
I am sorry that I can not help you, but have been interested in the Hartford bikes since we had the dual-sports here in the US on a very limited basis about 10 years or more ago. Do you have photos? Was your bike assembled locally at Hartford, or imported and rebadged? Shouldn't your bike be under some kind of warranty?
Re: CFMOTO 650 aka Hartford Diablo
Seems like you should probably try to warranty the ECU and or the throttle bodies.
The advice you are getting in Steves thread seems about the best our collective knowledge can achieve.
Re: CFMOTO 650 aka Hartford Diablo
The bike is just over a year old but here in Taiwan people don't seem to ride bikes very often so it only has 1500km on the clock. It has no warranty but the guy I bought it from owns a Hartford garage so he might know. I just didnt want to take it back and this is how these bikes are.
I will get a video today to show the problem that I have.
As far as I know Hartford import the parts upgrade the front brakes and brake lines. Change the water hoses for silicone ones and make sure everything is tight lol. So far I haven't found one loose bolt.

And here is a video of me trying to show you my throttle sensitivity issues.

Re: CFMOTO 650 aka Hartford Diablo
The bike definetly looks nice. Regarding revving it I would acknowledge it is not two stroke MX bike, some very sluggish four stroke can be like your bike, but on the other hand I guess your bike should not be like it is now.
Re: CFMOTO 650 aka Hartford Diablo
That sounds like a 'Sucking Air ' problem , check the rubber inlets between the throttle bodies and head , they might be loose or mis-aligned ?
Also I think it needs a good long hard thrashing , 2000km in one year ?? .
Mine gets thrashed every day riding 40km to and from work in evil Perth traffic , its that or get run off the road by a cage ,,, :confused1:
Get it out on a nice twisty mountain road and cane it ! , the bike will thank you for that .
But seriously check all air intake seals .

Re: CFMOTO 650 aka Hartford Diablo
I've just fitted an aftermarket exhaust and its alot smoother now but its backfiring so much out of the exhaust. To the point where there is fire coming out. Going to take the tank off soon and block the pair valve.
Do you think it could be overfuelling?
I check the seals on the throttlebodies and everything looks good. Its all tight.

Re: CFMOTO 650 aka Hartford Diablo
When I fitted a Scorpion Red power muffler on my 650mk I also experienced LOUD ! backfires as well , turned out to be a bad seal where the muffler fitted to the headers , cold air ( oxygen ) getting sucked in and igniting indide the muffler .
I went to an auto shop and grabbed the 3M exhaust bandage and sealed it up , this stopped 99% of these .
After I finished making the racebox system for the 650nk I have zero backfiring because I cut the standard pipe off the CAT that mates to the header and welded this onto the new racebox muffler , the standard joint has a carbon gasket that ensures a perfect seal and hence no backfiring .
Nope this helps and yes these sound awesome don't they and here is a few photos .
I have since fitted the Scorpion to my missus;s Honda VFR250 , sounds like a Ducati now , nice .
