Well, it's more of a "Honda Ape" clone.
If you are interested in this "form factor" and seven ponies will do job for you, 1K bucks is more than fair price.

In the Facebook group that member 'trexuk' (from this thread http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/sh...da-CT70-Clones ) started, something like 'Dax Clones , one of the members owns one, and felt it was a great machine for the price; he only has about 75 miles on it, however, but stated that everything works as it should and all that. I know, second-hand information (from me) but it seems like, just like the CT70 clones, that one probably couldn't go wrong with one taking price and quality into account. The guy who owns one said he had all the paperwork required to register his in Indiana, and I am 100% certain I could register one in Arizona. On chinariders.net, I have read nothing but good things about the online dealer you linked to, aspcusa, in several peoples' Haosen Hawk purchases, so I am guessing they would stand behind the Lifan, too. The guy stated he hit 58 mph once on it, and felt it had plenty of power overall; he uses it as a runabout in downtown Indianapolis for his business which involves classic Honda bikes like the CT70, PB 50, etc. I figure, if someone who deals in the real deal thinks highly of this bike (and taking the price of $1k into account), then it couldn't be all that bad!

LOL Yeah, that's me. Looks like we all surf in the same waters. :lol8: Yeah, that guy Mike is pretty cool. He provided a lot of info. I ordered one last night. These bikes are pretty addicting. I also ordered a 16 and 17 tooth front sprocket for my CT70 clone. I did a few hundred miles of road riding this summer and the bike is absolutely wailing at 50ish MPH top speed. A little taller gearing and maybe I can pull to 55-60 top end.
My clone bike has endured several hours of flat-out max RPM riding this summer w/o any issues. All I've done with it is slighty re-jet the carb, ditch the charcoal canister, add a unifilter and a re-welded pit bike exhaust. On the road it walks away from my buddy's 110 clone and another bud's vintage CB125.
I'm somewhat tempted to try a cam and/or bigger carb, but the bike runs so well now I hate to "fix" what isn't broken. lol

Scottro, maybe something was lost in translation, but did I understood correctly - last night you ordered a "Pony"?

Well, this is not a proper motorcycle - it is... motorcyclette (not in a French way, but... you know... little motorcycle... not more than a 3/4 of a motorcycle), so your conscience can remain calm.
You bought only a self propelled two-wheeler, no motorcycle, so no harm done. You can sleep peacefully through the night. :icon10:
BTW, you could treat us with detailed walkaround. You are first owner of this "Lifan" here.

Thanks Zorge ! I feel a great weight lifted from my soul. :icon10:
Yeah, I usually try to take photos as I un-crate/assemble/ride these non-motorcycles. I hope it arrives on a day w/o rain. If I remember, I'll plug in my camera's battery today, so it's ready.
Mike (in Indiana) already mentioned the carb is really small. 16mm ? If the engine is a clone of the Honda XR100 motor, then I've got a spare 24mm waiting. I'll get some photos of it along with the XR100 to compare engine details.

Re: Lifan Pony 100- Chinese Grom-like bike - $999 shipped in the US. Anybody have
As I understand, "Pony's" engine is, as I say, "bent horizontal" - modified clone of a "Honda Super Cub" engine.
Combing few forums, looking for useful info about my own horizontal, I found out that, as practice shows, those small diameter carbs (from PZ 16 to PZ 19) do the job from 50 cc up to 110 cc. If you have 72 or 75 main jet and 35 pilot jet, engine will run nice and smooth, no matter is this stock 70, 90, 100 or 110 cc.
Plus, I did little experiment with different diameter intake manifold on my 50 cc horizontal. Stock manifold has 16 mm on carbs side (my carb is "Deni's" PZ 17) and only 12 mm on motor head side. With this configuration, engine runs nicely and pulls smoothly from idle to max revs. Once, I replaced this manifold with all-the-way 22 mm manifold. Result: engine was... "insecure" on low and mid revs, and slightly stronger on high revs (or it was only my subconsciousness). Bottom line: more cons than pros.
Why I wrote all this? If I would be you, I would not be rushing to swap stock carb without thorough test after break-in period.

Not to worry. I'll run it awhile before any experimenting. If it runs perfectly, I'll leave it alone. LOL Usually they're set-up with very lean small carbs for the US.

Re: Lifan Pony 100- Chinese Grom-like bike - $999 shipped in the US. Anybody have
I got 2 emails yesterday. One said my order shipped, and the other included a .pdf bill of lading for shipping from California. I tried the tracking number on the shipping company's website, but it apparently isn't on a truck yet.
There's no mention whether it will be shipped to my house or a freight handling location. I've only had to go to a freight warehouse once. Other bike shipments have come to my house. So I guess we'll see....

Hello all!
I think this is my first post here but I just wanted you folks to see the noise we were making over this bike on planetminis. I have my own and I'm getting the modification options sorted out.
But if you wanted to know more please come collaborate with us.

We're waiting to finally see Scottro's acquisition, but it looks that his shipping company took wrong turn at Albuquerque.

I haven't checked this morning, but as of last evening it was somewhere between Ontario CA and Chicago. It's still due on Friday, but motor freight isn't as reliable as FedEx and UPS. Lol

Bugger!
Let's recapitulate: you are from Pittsburgh, who is in the zone of continental climate, with large seasonal temperature differences. Now is late October, rains often, days are mostly chilly for riding a bike, you can smell that snow is coming... and you are getting your spick-and-span bike...
Oh, man... In order to ride it, you gonna need lots of coins and pedestal to fit him.

Yes. That's about it. Lol.
Of more immediate concern, The weather forecast for Friday, Saturday, and Sunday are reasonably warm and dry. I would have had time to get the bike assembled, photographed, and sorted. Monday's weather is unknown, I've got work and school til 10:30PM..... Blah.

Here in the desert, it is actually waiting for the HOT season to end. I commuted all summer the 33 miles (53 kms) to work, but at least the morning was not scorching yet! Riding for recreation in the heat of the day is not fun.
I eagerly await your report, Scottro, from stock, as I have started commuting on my new to me 2004 TGB delivery scooter, but feel kind of sad putting on the miles as it only had 1200 miles when I bought it and it still looks like new. I actually intend to try my hand at delivering pizzas and/or other food in town (since I know the TGB distributor, I have some bigger business ideas with these bikes, but I digress). So, parking the rattling, creaking TMEC 200 with over 10k miles is the idea, and looking into a Pony for cheap commuting. The scooter hits 60 mph and can sustain that (which has been fine in the 2-lane 50 mph zone for about half the commute), so that is about what I will shoot for in the Pony 100. My guess and hope is that sprockets will achieve that, but I suppose carb and jets and exhaust could happen, too, if needed. I know, I know, I could get another cheap Chinese 200 or 230 enduro, and I do know that the premature rattling and clanging is due to an accident last year in which a lady in a large SUV hit me, and forced me into the curb and onto the sidewalk, braking bones in the process. The only repair I did was bend the handlebars back, but there was damage to other things, but I figured I would get something new, eventually, at least to be safe! These just look cool and can fill the role of a scooter-commuter, but I will wait to read your reports, first.

It's at a warehouse in Pittsburgh. I probably could have picked it up. They called me and made an appointment to deliver it to my house between 9am and 1. Depending what time it's dropped off, it's unlikely I'll have time to unbox it until Tuesday. Talk about delayed gratification. lol

Are you sure that this is warehouse in PittsburgH, not in one of couple dozen Pittsburgs across US? :icon10:

Re: Lifan Pony 100- Chinese Grom-like bike - $999 shipped in the US. Anybody have
I unboxed and assembled it last night in my driveway (in the dark and rain) so it wouldn't be sitting outside getting rained on. I took some flash photos, but won't have time to clean them up and post them until tomorrow. Some things I only finger-tightened, just to get it indoors. Overall quality seems better than the skyteam (Sacin) CT70 clone bikes. The plastics are robust and the sheet metal seems thicker, nicer than typical clones. The bike is bigger/taller/heavier than CT70 clone bikes too. The shipping crate was strong and well-assembled. However, it had a lot of sharp edges, and working in the dark, my hands looked like ground beef by the time I was done ! lol Sorry-- I probably won't be able to post much more of a review until the weekend.
