I have a few days spare, so I am planning to meet up with a friend just outside Ring 5 (I think.) to the west of Beijing.
Please see Map.
Any advice on some nice roads around this area which I can ride and return back to this location within a day (max 400 km) would be greatly appreciated.

Check out rough direction of southwest (ShiDu), G108 and then turn somewhere north to G109. There are tons of small roads to follow. Justcavoid ShiDu during national holiday. That might a desaster there

Could a bit longer then a day now looking at all the roads.

A few of the other members here in MCM have rode there bikes on the Great Wall before, and I think this is the best location for that.
Also nice mountain route is from Beijing on S213 to Sihai, then to the east on S323 to LiuLiMiao, then several kilometers on G111 and turn east on S310 to MiYun, then south to JinCheng expressway and back to Beijing.
On which dates are you here?

Hi Alex do you mean the S212 ?And not the S213.
Because that's the only road i can find that links up to the S323.

S213. And then to turn right to S323 when you reach Sihaizhen. And you may occasionally meet a lot of bikers there as I understand there is a sort of gathering point there.
Altogether it will be ca. 300 km ride with curvy roads and nice views.

That route is not traffic-heavy so you can do it in relaxed mode by just several hours. And there are a couple of fish farms/restaurants where you can have freshly caught fish that is cooked in front of you.Quote:

I don't know about the Google Maps / China offset anymore with GPS coordinates, but this is definitely the road we were on.

The squiggly lines on the far right of the map is the part from the photo.
TIC and things change, wouldn't be surprised if costs money to go up there now, but it's worth having a look.

Some great roads and riding around the location that ShuBen posted
Was going to leave today but woke up to clear blue sky's.
So I had to ride the mountain roads again.
Due to Beijing Smog it can be a bit overcast hinding most of the mountains.
But today was just perfect condition to ride.
Being a Sunday as well, loads I mean loads of local guys out with there bikes.
Had some great fun chasing them down.
Apart from today most of the other days has been voild of traffic.
Will post a report later, when I can get on my PC.

If you or your bike are not fully legal stay away from Beijing and the mountain area roads.
You will get stop and you will be nicked.
And apart from that you won't get petrol.
