If you're buying a cheap BMW from China, you're getting screwed.
Cheers!

Go to the local DFAT office and tell them you are importing a stolen bike, they will love to help you.
Where in Oz are you and what is the weather like today?
Re: Full Cost to Import a BMW from China
People do import things all the time, like cheap (for us) low kilometers cars, second-hand from Japan, so I am sure it can be done quite simply. But with my limited experience of shipping stuff around the world, it can be quite cheap if you wait for a General Shipper to fix up a mixed cargo. I have brought in stuff from UK and from Bali, crated and shipped by handlers that side and all I had to do was pay import duties, quite low. All goods have different duties and regs. but you cna find that out easily from Customs and Excise.
Regulations have also tightened up a lot recent years on emissions and so on so you may need compliance plates, VIN and all that stuff before it can come in, plus legal ownership documentation.
As China V suggests, such bikes are really very, very expensive in China with 100% original cost added in import tax and so on. They would be stripped for parts and sold for profit or in illegal market there before exported to Aus.! I do know of one vintage BMW came in from Indonesia, it was cheap as the guys just rode it off the deck ...
Very unlikely anything you have seen is legal in any way. do you have a web link to the place offering it?
If you want a BMW in particular, 'Just Bikes' is only $4.95 and it is full of bikes - it often has legally imported second-hand jap bikes with all the paperwork done for you so you may find a BMW there.
Re: Full Cost to Import a BMW from China
Goldwingman, i don't really understand what you're trying to do, maybe you can clarify.
1 - You want to import an chinese BMW into Australia? ...or 2 - You want to import an australian BMW into china?
If it's 1, it makes no sense. BMW bikes cost 2.5 times more here in china because of the ridiculous taxes, it's the most most expensive place in the world to buy one. If it's 2, then you're out of luck, it's virtually impossible to bring a bike legally into this country.
EDIT: ok loads of other people answered before me, nevermind
Re: Full Cost to Import a BMW from China
Is this a supposedly "vintage" old BMW with a sidecar for cheap? If so, it is a Chang Jiang 750 and not really a BMW. That is the only way you would buy a "cheap" BMW in China. Even black market suspected stolen, but real, BMW's cost more used than a brand new BMW in Australia would cost.
Re: Full Cost to Import a BMW from China
OK, I now think I know what you mean. You want Chang Jiang maybe with a BMW motor? We build these. Go to web site www.bmwsidecar.com
