Mobile phone service providers

OK I finally gave in to technology and got a smart phone.

I signed up with China mobile 3G.

The problem I have here in Xinjiang is the 3G coverage.I live in the 2nd or 3rd biggest city in Xinjiang(depends who you listen to)so far the coverage is crap.

Phone coverage is pretty good on my normal old phone.

I live on the edge of the city. Had coverage for 4 days then bingo yesterday no coverage.Went out to the local ski resort 15 klms away when I had coverage back home and no coverage.

Is this going to be another Xinjiang thing i.e works some times doesn't work other times get used to it they seemed to be saying? Like the hot water and heating:eek2:.Interesting in -20c temps or is it like this all over China ?

What mobile phone service providers do the rest of you people use ? Do you have any problems with it in other parts of China ?

Did you sign a contract for your phone that ties you to china mobile? if not try a different phone company.

My latest smart phone is a motorola and the signal is not so good in lifts or buildings, using the same china mobile sim card as i've had for 2 years.

If you have wifi in your house i can recommend an app called "Viber".. its basically free phone calls and texting through the internet or through edge (Phone Internet) when your out and about. It's like syke for mobiles but uses your phone number as I.D. instead of a user name.


Also good dirt bike games are... trials extreme... moto extreme... 2xl supercross.. is the skiing any good up there??

No didn't sign a contract.Just seeing if there is a better alternative to China mobile.

Skiiing at the moment is patchy.More snow falls needed.Took my new skis out last weekend and put a few gouges in the bases.Nothing like seeing a grown man cry.

Resort skiing is for beginners and intermediate.Nothing to rave about. BC skiing is right up there with the best in the world.The quality of the snow is light dry powder as good if not better than Europe or Nth America.Plus no one to track it out real quick.
