Qingqi QM200GY (Qlink, STX, Pulse, etc) alternative air filter
Having proved to myself that altering the air box, or removing it altogether and replacing it with a pod-type K&N style filter is most unwise on engines fitted with CV (constant vacuum) carburettors, (read discussion about this issue here, starting at post number 5):
http://www.mychinamoto.com/forums/showthread.php?t=449
I set about finding an improved filter element to insert inside the factory air box.
The OEM filter is a re-usable yellow lump of foam that has very poor sealing properties around its edges, tears easily and may be robbing some airflow capacity.
Its part number is 13781QMNZ000 and it costs about $26.
The airbox is the same shape inside as the Suzuki DR200 1999-2007 and therefore the Suzuki filter element will fit. I ordered one thinking it might be an improvement and guess what?.
The Genuine Suzuki OEM air filter is a re-usable yellow lump of foam...etc, etc. In fact it's exactly the same component. I have seen them both side by side.
Its part number if you ever need one and can't find the Qingqi one is:
13780-42A-01 and the cost?...yes, exactly the same $26.
I've read good things about MOOSE RACING, they have after-market filter elements for a large variety of standard air boxes, including one for the Suzuki DR200 1999-2007. The consensus is that apart from superior filtration with less resistance to airflow and a vastly improved neoprene seal around its edges, it's much stronger and might release a bit of power or at least improve driveability and throttle response.
Its part number is: M762-70-03, costs only around $21 and it's available from lots of places. You can Google the part number or the description as follows: "Moose DR200 99-07" or get it from these places:

I've got one on order from the USA and will report back when I fit it.
Re: Qingqi QM200GY (Qlink, STX, Pulse, etc) alternative air filter
Hi
I'm trying ti get a Moose Air Filter too.
I'm searching on the eBay and I found it, but I don't know if it's cheaper than the 2 stores that you stated above.
Another question, with the moose filter use still use a filter oil to spray it?
Thank you

Hi Forchetto, You said before that Suzuki filter is the same so the same must be the airbox. How about change all the airbox for that of suzuki and stop swearing with that stupid wingnut of hell. Think this could be a posible interchange?
BTW this litle bike made a long trip this new year and crossing all guatemala and half honduras. No pics, no RR, just want to comment that seems to be a reliable bike so far.

The original filter that came with the bike had been fitted dry. The Suzuki spare I bought later came ready oiled, you can tell because it comes sealed in a plastic bag and some of the oil has dripped inside. The Moose replacement filter also came dry and with some vague instructions about oiling it but no definitive instructions as to what sort of oil is required, just "filter oil". Try and get "filter oil" here in Spain and the shops look at you as if you were mad...It's now fitted dry.

It could be done. I did search ebay for a used example as the original is hard to get and expensive, but in the end I just settled for looking around to find a low pressure-large diameter spring that I can place behind the element to hold it in contact with the sealing face of the air filter housing. My old Honda CB550 had such a spring to hold the paper filter element and it worked great. It took seconds to remove and replace the element.
I don't understand why Qingqi changed the airbox. The frame is exactly the same with plenty of clearance between the underseat tubes to access the filter.

Hi
In the Brazilian Manual, it says that the air filter must be wetted with engine oil but not soggy. It says that you can use engine oil, but I know that some stores sells oil specific for air filters.
As far as I know, the oil in the air filter helps to retain dust particles and not let them go to the carburetor...
cheers
