New Member Looking for SMR250 comments...

HI ALL.

THINKING OF BUYING THE SMR 250.

HOW DOES IT GO.

IM RIDING A ZONGSHEN 125 AT THE MOMENT BUT ITS A LITTLE LOW ON POWER CAUSE I HAVE TO RIDE THE FREEWAY TO WORK.

Standard gearing on the bike is verry low, you will run into the rev limmiter @ 7000rpm at about 105kph in 5th gear. The front sprocket on my bike is a 14T and the rear is a 42T the front is already as big as you can fit on the bike, I have now bought a blank 38T sprocket for the rear as I could find no standard Japanese bike sprocket that would fit and had a engineering shop cut the mounting holes for me. I will fit this tonight and see what difference it makes. I wanted to fit a 34T sprocket but could not source one, also I am not sure if suck a small sprocket would fit.:eek2:
For the power there is no problem and the bike has more than enough power to run into the rev limmiter in top gear without any hassle. For the rest I am verry happy with the bike and enjoy commuting to work and back with it, I do about 40km's to work and another 40km's back home.:riding:

did you have to do any mods. pipe,airbox etc.

No Problem. I have not done any mods to the pipe or airbox as it did not seem neccesary, I did however replace the front and rear wheel bearings with better quality ones for peace of mind.:scooter:

Which wheel bearings did you use to replace them? Was the part number cross listed with another bike (Honda, Suzuki, etc.)?

I went to a local bearing agent, the bearings are all standard sizes and
the were able to find me a replacement without any problems by using the
manufacturing code on the bearing. :icon10:

So I guess they aren't sealed bearing units then? :confused1:

:mwink: These are sealed bearings, the same as the originals just better quality.:thumbsup:

Heehee. I have opened so many boxes with trashed bearings directly off the assembly line!

One of the funniest moments i had was in June in Yongkang, where I was checking a consignment of bikes and they had forgotten to put spacers between the front wheel bearings on some small atv's! Some bearings were even missing! A whole extra day to replace 400 bearings. It pays to check!

LC, how many k's you done on the 250? I have a 200 road bike, I used in my gallery, it only ever gets used at midvaal raceway. The ultimate test!

have done about 2500 km's, but recently moved closer to work wich should save me some travelling. :scooter:
