sourcing tires insidie China
All:
I'm thinking ahead to my next set of tires for the Jialing JH600, which comes stock with Chengxin road tires in sizes 100/90-19 and 130/80-17. I've had a squiz through Taobao but not come up with anything.
Any bright ideas on how/where to find quality tires, and suggestions for what might be a "toothier" tire for non-paved riding -- albeit one that's available somewhere in China?
thanks!
Re: sourcing tires insidie China
Have you been out to the motorcycle & scooter market there in Shanghai? Or how about heading down to TianMa circuit, I know there's a fairly good range of motorcycle tyres there. I'd suggest Hangzhou motorcycle market, though I think the range of tyres would be on a par with the SH market. Besides which if you were to ride down to HZ then it's a hop-skip-n-a-jump to NB :P

Re: sourcing tires insidie China
i've been into the Jiaoji Lu scooter market, but have not found tires for bigger-bore bikes. will have to look again.
have not tried tianma. all the scuttle here has not raised my confidence about that place.
still thinking of a ride north soon. beijing beckons.
Re: sourcing tires insidie China
Yeah, I'd suggest you head on out to TianMa, after all you're only after a set of tyres right, not a complete bike because sure as shiet sticks to a blanket I'd not touch any of the bikes that are being sold there with the exception of any that might be sold by the German mechanic on the end of the shop queue closest to the entry gate. He's 100% legit and above board, but he's into servicing not selling. Worth having a talk with him, he'll set you straight on some of the business activities and practices of some (unnamed motorcycle shops/dealers). But back to the issue at hand, those 'other' shops there do have quite a range of tyres, and if they aint got it, I'm sure they can get em.

What kind of route you got in mind for BJ?
When and who else would you go with, and for how long?
Re: sourcing tires insidie China
nice sleuthing BD! with that one exception, the prices are indeed attractive. next question is which is best for my riding profile, which is mostly on highways/roads but sometimes in mud/dirt....
i'd not given much more thought to a beijing route than "north", though I did ask google maps to show me the way. first instinct is to find the most direct route and hustle. then again, if there's some more gracious route I'd certainly want to know about it! was thinking of mapping myself through Zibo to hoist an adult beverage with ZMC888...
as of now this is a solo project, but i'd be delighted to have company. i've got some business up in Shenyang 22-24 July, and would like to spend a week or so in Beijing prior to motoring up there...
cheers

BG-Performance should get you tyres out of HK but might take a few weeks, http://www.bg-performance.com
the German Tianma Circuit bloke is a verbal diarrhea and was nicknamed "motormouth" by some Shanghai bike owners a long time ago.....
ride safe! PAL
Re: sourcing tires insidie China
thanks, Pal. have heard good things about orders through BG. thinking about a quick squiz out to tianma...
