妙峰山 miaofengshan Scenic lookout 18th June with Galenernest
Hey guys,
So on a whim decided to go for a ride with Galenernest to the scenic spot miao feng shan.
Its a place he's been before so i was happy for him to take the lead and show me where to go.
It was somewhere around here:

We found some nice trails off the beaten path and saw a cheap skii slope.
I was on my Shineray 250 dirt bike looking thing with dual sport tyres, and Galenernest on hist Honda cb190r. He could take the corners way faster than me because i was on dual sport tyres... which as i found out later...were not a good idea.
Sorry 1 picture is a little graphic.

On the one area that doesn't have leather and hard rubber protection...how ironic

My back wheel stepped out, tried to correct it whilst straightening, then braked again for a corner and it slid out the other way... and eventually i had to emergency brake but still slammed into the guard rail (steel cables) which prevents cars from going over the hillside. Saved the bike from sliding under... but at the cost of my pinkie

At the miaofengshan gate.

At the top of the drive
I would like to upload more photos, even of the bikes that took us there, and the actual view... but it won't let me.
I would highly recommend this drive, just don't be on dual sport tyres.
Also it was fairly close to beijing. The drive is not quite as engaging as many Huairou mountain roads, but it is arguably more beautiful

Good to get out-n-about and blow the cobwebs outta the exhaust. Damn shame about the little finger, but then again it could have been much worse...
Not sure what brand of dual sport tyre you have on your ride...?
I have used many different brands over the years and generally speaking haven't found many issues or limitations on better branded dual sport rubber especially in the last several decades as tyre technology and designs have improved. FWIW, I've been running Metzler Karoo 3's (50/50) tyres on my GS and I corner hard and fast... haven't found them wanting for grip at all including doing a couple of return rides from Eastern Ch!na down to Thailand (2015 & 2016). Onto my 3rd set on the GS - I like the Karoo 3's that much.
As for posting up more photos, just reply to your own thread and each subsequent post - gives you a minimum of another 5 photos you can upload/post...
Shiny side up, rubber side down....

Thanks for posting up the pics, David! I'm pretty terrible at remembering to take photos... I think I took more pics of your finger than I did of the rest of the ride. Anyway, it's a fun little run and we definitely took the long way there to ride some of the tertiary roads. We took the quick way back on some road that resembled the fifth ring, but of course it was not the fifth ring because motorcycles are forbidden on the fifth ring, although this road seemed to have a distinct "ring" to it, and went to exactly the same place as the fifth ring and was approximately as wide as the fifth ring, but it certainly was not the fifth ring. Stupidity on this road resembled stupidity on the fifth ring... although I don't know how I would know that as evidenced by the fact that I have, nor has anyone I've ever known, ever even been within 10 kilometers of the fifth ring. Cheers!

Yeah there's quite a few nice places just outside Beijing. As soon as you get out there... you realise that Beijing is now quite bearable.
Escape to the greenery
