Re: Motorcycle Parts names in Mandarin
Years ago I had what was called a "functional reference dictionary" that had pictures of all kinds of devices and situations, with Chinese and English equivalents for all the relevant items. One was for a bicycle, with obvious stuff like pedals, handlebars, spokes and nipples, but also more technical terms like bottom bracket, headset, derailleur, etc. Lost in the mists of time, and would love to find another, but this live list in MCM is 100 times better....
now thinking about how we can capture it all in one place. is there a wikipedia site where stuff like this can be parked and constantly updated?
cheers

HB, you saying the magnet is glued into the plug? Meaning what? that it might come loose? This plug looks a lot like the plugs our bobber boys have bought recently. Is it not wise to use one?
thanks
Re: Motorcycle Parts names in Mandarin
HB's just saying, glue a magnet to the head of the plug and save buying one. Good idea, I shall do it, got lots of magnets.

The "ghetto" DIY = glued into "head" (i.e. outside) BUT chinese road had tons iron ??? (Y1 coin ...)
The "commercial" version (i.e. inside) is FAR better.
Re: Motorcycle Parts names in Mandarin
Crack open a computer hard drive, its got two strong magnets inside. I'll do this before I change the plug next oil change.

OP keeps updating the first post and this will be make the thread a sticky?
Re: Motorcycle Parts names in Mandarin
Why not indeed! Now a 'sticky' unless boss overrides. Good idea Slabo, thanks - so now it is easily findable. Any one can add to it because we have peer review by native Chinese speakers and experienced 'bi-linguals'. A bit of 'off-topic' doesn't hurt so long as the main theme is understandable.
Re: Motorcycle Parts names in Mandarin
Terminology tables that have translations, if you had a database with parts then you would link to one of those translation tables and select a description from a list, subsequently that would allow viewing a parts directory in every language.
Then assign it a part number and associate it with a specific make and model, coded to a schematic, which would be located in a table of diagrams.
One person enters the data, another validates that data and then still a third person, then it get loaded into a system of tables.
