Laoshan Motorcycle Training School (Beijing) Video
In about October 2011, I was invited to "experience" the motorcycle training school (Laoshan) in Beijing. I had heard many stories about it, and finally jumped at the opportunity to see for myself.
Anyways, here is what it is like ...
At the end of the video, the credits roll too quickly to read. It says:
"I caught myself rushing to judgement about Laoshan. Then I remembered:
I passed my motorcycle driving test in 1971 (Canada). I had taken no professional classes. They did not exist.
During my 'test', I did a start/stop, and a 180 around one orange cone. I took the 'test" on a Honda Cub. Shortly thereafter, I bought a Kawasaki 750cc triple, two-stroke.
Amazing I am still alive."
As an end-note, I have heard that Laoshan has removed the concrete Figure 8 and now uses traffic cones in the parking lot (where everyone was standing, and people were switching over). As I note in the video, that concrete Figure 8 was actually quite difficult because there would be sand & gravel on it, as well as several potholes. I suspect there were a few spills.

Sorry it's pathetic.
The blind are leading the blind. Useless. Dangerous. Just because other countries went through a development stage it doesn't mean this shonky dangerous bs is acceptable. All the information about how to teach people how to ride properly is on the internet and freely available from other governments. The attitude is probably 'we don't put much effort into the bikes, because everyone wants to learn how to drive a car, because they are higher status'.
1. Hi Viz?
2. Helmet?
3. Gloves?
4. Dedicated riding area?
5. Cones
6. Standard 125cc Honda CG125s or a clone in a good state of repair under 5 years old?
7. Teacher with a clue?

When I was taking my test there, a tall local bloke who could barely fit on the bikes almost offed himself when the front fork of his test bike broke coming down the little dirt mound. I almost offed myself doing a high speed pass (the instructor left after the first hour and left us to do whatever we wanted) and then realizing that the bike that I was riding had no front brake. Happy times.

This is hilarious! I wonder though, is it still the case in 2014? As in from what i read this pretty much seems to be the only real motorcycle training centre.... oh wait there's shenghua driving school as well. , and if you are unfortunate enough to not have a motorcycle license from back home, but have been riding for years... (farm stuff or whatever) then regardless you still have to take these "lessons" is that right?
It seems to be a bit of a shamble.
Does anybody have any info on sheng hua driving school?
And if you don't have a motorbike license already... do you really have to do one of these stupid 1 week courses? or has it got simpler now?
