Changing 沪 A to 沪 C
I'm speaking to a person with a bike that has Hu A plates, with the intention of buying it and transferring the bike into my name, but with Hu C plates. The store where the original owner bought the bike claims this can't be done, but I'd like to know if anyone else has tried this. I cannot afford Hu A plates, so it's either transfer the bike to Hu C or look at buying a whole different bike.

Re: Changing 沪 A to 沪 C
In Shanghai only new and qualified bikes can be plated. If you purchased the said bike without the Hu A plate, that would make it a used bike and therefore not eligible for any Shanghai plates, Hu C or otherwise.

Re: Changing 沪 A to 沪 C
Thanks for the information. It's confusing when the seller states that the bike is available with plates and without. I suppose someone might want to buy it for track days or other nefarious purposes but not me. Also means the value of an unplated used bike in Shanghai would have to be pretty low. If it cannot be plated, it is illegal to ride on the street, and therefore not worth much to anybody.
