If you ask here older gents about BMW, you can be sure that will tell you about R25/R27s. You should see with how much respect they mention those bikes. So yes, I'm familiar with those shaft driven 250 cc.
About TVS: some six years ago, some small company from Serbia imported batch of TVS "Apache", along with some TVS's scooters and introduced them to the public in Belgrade's "Moto Passion". Retail price was about 1450 euros and common impressions among bikers were that "Apache" is bit smaller than average Chinese commuter bike, namely "Keeway Speed" 125/150, but they looked like they were better built than "Keeway".

Because I did not saw many "Apaches" on the roads and in the ads, I believe that this company, in some corner of their depot, still has crates with brand new disassembled bikes.
There are three bikes I know. Ural, Jawa, and Royal Enfield. The rest are a mess called motorcycle.

Now Jawa has got zero celsius start-up and near zero celsius start-up. Started up like a charm: fuel richness on, three casual kicks, electricity on, commanding kick, and TRÄÄÄÄT-RÄTTRÄTRÄTRÄTRÄT :D
In some another thread there was talk about slipping. Well, today it was zero celsius in the morning, which predicted ice and stuff on the road. I started-up Jawa and begun to drive. The tarmac looked wet but I thought it is not icy. Soon I wondered why the front of the bike is wobbly like there would be serious unbalancing issue on tires or not enough air on tires. It was like driving in soft sand, though wobbly was more vibrant and not so high strenght. Then I realized that the road was icy in a way that the tire "lived" a little on the instabilities on the road.
Ok, that was not a biggie but since Jawa is a new bike for me and tires are new for me, and thussly I don't know how them both behave in interesting situations, it was a bit exciting to drive. Drove a bit slower than normally, but the grip was all good, could had as well driven normally. Then, when I was about to turn to the parking area of my workplace, I shifeted down and released clutch in a four stroke way while not adjusting throttle to the speed I was going, the two stroke style, the rear wheel locked and I slipped slided from left to right. Again, was not a biggie even with my too strong counters, but what it did was reminded me of the joys on two stroke. The engine braking is less effective, so the rear wheel does not lock-up so easily, and when you drive correctly two stroke way you adjust the throttle in a way that no bad rear wheel lock-up can happen because of engine braking.
