CF650TR instrument panel
I obtained the new CFMoto CF650G-TR instrument panel after viewing several photos of the rear of the new panel and comparing that with the original panel so equipped on the first generation CFMoto 650TR. The major considerations were whether the electrical plug differed (how much alteration might be required) and naturally whether the instrument panel itself was of similar design/dimensions etc. I wanted to experiment whether I could get the clock & all too important tripometer absent from the first generation 650TR instrument panel.
Attachment 17654
To access the instrument panel for removal requires removal of the screen, the LHS & RHS mirror pods (excluding the mirror fixtures) & the tupperware panel under the screen as well as screws securing the panel surround that the instrument panel attaches to. This allows the panel surrounding the instrument panel to come away cleanly allowing access to the rear of the instrument panel which is held in place by 4 self tapping screws, attaching to the surround or fascia. Dislodge the wiring harness dust boot, then pull the plug gently (no securing clips to fuss with) and then the instrument panel comes away freely.
Attachment 17655
Checked the instrument panel plug connections original versus new, seemed that the two use the same plug configuration. The obvious elephant in the room is the addition of the single wire attached with the male bullet plug connector.
Connected plug to new instrument panel and turned on the 650TR ignition with the engine stop switch activated. Idiot lights on dash came on, checked all handle bar switchgear for function - all good. Engine switch back to engine run, ECU cycled through the usual FI routine. Everything works as it should. Noted that the numerical gear selector indicator is on the new instrument panel, so cycled through the gears with bike still parked in garage without engine running. Appears that the gear indicator works. Bonus. Clock works. ABS light illuminates and remains so (bottom LHS idiot light column).
Attachment 17656
Adjusted/reset time on the digital clock. Press and hold button on instrument panel dash for >3 seconds. Hours flash. Press multiple times to alter the hour. When done, press and hold button >3 seconds to move across to the minute display and repeat the process. When complete press and hold button >3 seconds to fix time. I switched the ignition off for a time and allowed some time to pass then turned ignition on again, clock functions as expected. Experimented with gear selector indicator again, seems to work. However because it was raining I didn't take the bike for a ride to test beyond the simple 'bench test'. After checking the function of everything I then set about reassembling everything. Instrument panel fits like a glove so there is not difference in physical dimensions, all holes line up. With everything reassembled the new instrument panel looks much improved over the original. Having the clock meant I did away with the LCD clock I'd added to the top of the dash tupperware.
I wrapped the additional/extra wire from the rear side of dash around the wiring harness so I could fit the rubber dust boot back over the plug surround. I also added a female bull clip fastener to the male end - nice and tidy.
Attachment 17657
So what about the extra wire emanating from the rear of the instrument panel? I assume it's for the ABS sensor module - not so equipped on the first generation 650TR, so that is a little redundant. I plan to take the new instrument panel out (now that it's in-situ) and disassemble to disconnect the ABS sensor light.
Attachment 17658
Note that I have modified how the screen mounts - raising the screen adjusts the air flow thereby directing the wind blast to near the top of the helmet. A little more tweaking is needed to get the adjustment - just right.

Attachment 17659
Attachment 17660
The numerical gear selector indicator display is quite small and not nearly as prominent as it often appears on other motorcycle instrument panels. The fact that it appears to work out of the box is an added bonus.

Re: CF650TR instrument panel
Great post BikerDoc good to hear all works well, yes it's a shame the gear indicator are small but better then northing, I am sure many people will ask how much and can I get one in my country???

Re: CF650TR instrument panel
Looks like a fairly easy improvement. Good to see it is compatible..

Re: CF650TR instrument panel
Hi there
I'm considering ordering one of these, how easy it it to disassemble and disconnect the abs light?
Thanks
Tony

Re: CF650TR instrument panel
To fit the instrument panel/console requires removal of the screen (8 bolts), removal of the underlying plastic panel beneath the screen (push-pin fasteners & screws), remove the existing instrument panel and disconnection of the wiring harness.
I didn't bother with disconnecting the ABS light as it's not that bright and consequently I've not found it a distraction while riding.

Re: CF650TR instrument panel
Hi there
Ahh ok, well, I'd have to disconnect the ABS light, as any warning light on the dashboard is an MOT fail here in the UK, and hence would then be illegal to ride on the road.
MJH, perhaps just as well I'm not based in the States then :-) I always thought their main push in the US was their ATV's anyhow??

When you have worked it out? which could mean you need to take the back off and disconnect the ABS light somehow you can kindly post here if it was me I would be getting some black tape or some paint or better still find a more friendly MOT tester?

Even with a bike that dont have ABS ?
-
Re: CF650TR instrument panel
Hi Yep, even if it doesn't have ABS
Any warning light is a fail, I cam a cropper to that a couple of years ago with my car, to fix it, was over £600.00, only for the same thing to happen a couple of months later. Needless to say, I didn't retain ownership of the car much after that.
I have a friendly MOT tester for my bikes, but unfortunately he wouldn't risk his license to MOT, I remember he had to jump through hoops, metaphorically speaking to become a certified MOT testing station.
I might see how my first experience of buying through a tabao agaent goes, before I try ordering a new dashboard.

Hi there
This is definitely the correct part?

Re: CF650TR instrument panel
Hi
Thankyou, I've asked a Tabao agent, if the supplier can get an MPH one, instead of the KPH one, unless someone knows of someone I can deal direct with?
Again, thanks
Tony

Re: CF650TR instrument panel
Hi
Did you manage to speak to bikerdoc about this? I think it's the correct one, just trying to arrange one with an MPH speed indicator, I've not had a reply from the agent as yet, hopefully nothing has been lost in translation.
Cheers
Tony

Re: CF650TR instrument panel
Hi
I've had no luck with the Tabao agent about getting a dashboard marked out in MPH, and I've tried emailing cfmoto themselves, but as yet haven't had a response :-( Perhaps if bikerdoc does read this, maybe he get get his contacts at CFMoto to help?
Cheers

Re: CF650TR instrument panel
Mate 100km/h = 60mph . What more do you need?
-
Re: CF650TR instrument panel
Hi 'mate'
Yes I know that, and yes the maths is easy. However under uk legistation :-
Quote:
speedometer - the speed must be shown in miles per hour (mph) or dual mph and kilometres per hour
Now, as I want the new speedo for it aesthetics and the extra info, I don't want to be marking or putting stickers on the speedo indicating the equivalent mph settings. If that was the case I would gave bought the other already
-
Re: CF650TR instrument panel
Just kidding with you mate but I wasn't aware of the Uk laws. I miss the days when there was a speedo on one side and a tach on the other with a neutral light in the middle. Do we really need all this shit on a bike?
-
Re: CF650TR instrument panel
No worries, yeah I miss those days as well ! What do you need a neutral light for as well Ha :)

Hey Tony, I'm away on vacation/holiday riding round Thailand and Laos. I'm fairly sure that CFMoto would have a instrument panel in miles for the EU/UK and USA markets etc. I can look into when I am back in PRC which likely won't be until March. It's worth noting that PRC is approaching the biggest annual holiday on the Ch!nese calender (Ch!nese New Year & Spring Festival) so you'd have little to no luck getting any responses from any Taobao seller or CFMoto directly. Even courier companies stop accepting orders for shipping until after the vacation period.
If you are serious about wanting a new replacement instrument panel (650TR-G) then I can attempt to deal with it, however if you're just musing the idea over - then... best you deal with an agent. My time is valuable... just saying. Even you're serious - nothing will happen until after the aformentioned PRC vacation/holiday period, which represents the world's largest net domestic migration/movement of a people in the world.

Re: CF650TR instrument panel
Hi
Thanks for taking time out of your holiday to reply, yes I am serous, I know my current dashboard works as is, but, to have the additional trip meter, clock etc, is definitely worth it, at least I know I'll have a working spare with my original one.
Yeah I know about the chinese holiday, March is fine, if, in the mean time I do hear anything back from CFMoto I will of course let you know.
Many thanks again, and enjoy your holiday.
Cheers

Re: CF650TR instrument panel
No worries Tony, I've asked my assistant to make contract with our sources at CFMoto, however unfortunately nothing can be done until after the CNY and Spring Festival holiday period. This will likely mean near the end of the month before I can get any information.
Just a quick note though, I looked back at a few earlier posts in this thread and I discovered that some of the links show slightly different instrument panels than what I originally posted about. I assume that the photos in such links I refer to are the 650TR second generation instrument panels, whereas my post is about the 650TR-G instrument panel.

Re: CF650TR instrument panel
Hi
Thanks for that, yes essentially, I'm looking for the same instrument panel that you have, as at least I know that will fit :) I mainly want it for the trip meter, clock, and having the gear selected displayed is, as you say a bonus. I don't mind waiting, afterall, the original instrument panel does work fine.
Once again, thanks for your help.
What do you think of the SatNav mount I found?
Attachment 18139
Attachment 18140
It's a mount designed for the ST1300, but fits perfectly. Sorry, that was a bit off topic, but I noticed on your images that you have a satnav mount.
Cheers
Tony

My 2014 TK has the second generation instrument panel which has the clock and trip meter. Wonder if the 650TR-G will work as a straight swap. Of ocz the ABS light will be redundant. But will be good to have the gear position indicator.

The new TR-G don't have a gear indicator.

Only on the Gen 3 TR not the new TR-G.
Apart from my review on the TR-G i don't think there are other members on MCM that own a TR-G.

You'd be forgiven for being confused by Prince666's comment. What he should have written is that on the TR-G model the gear indicator doesn't display as a gear indicator. Instead it displays other information using that area of the display. However, put the TR-G instrument panel onto the 650TR/TK and it displays the gear indicator. At least that's the case on the first generation 650TR. I can't vouch for the second generation model.
Right - clear as mud!?

Thanks. So there is a Gen 3 TR. Is this the one with ABS? So that would make mine Gen 2 then. How is the performance of the TR-G compared to the standard TR?
Does CFMoto tuned the engine to cope with nearly 260kg of weight? Does the Sport mode and Econ mode does anything? Suspect it is a ECU tuning map sequence.
