Re: s.o.s help to find a compatible cdi
Mark,
Welcome to MCM. I've had a similar problem that turned out to be a dirty carburator. Are you 100% certant it's the CDI? Also, where you writing from?

Re: s.o.s help to find a compatible cdi
i`m writing from england.i cleaned the carb out and also used compressor.
i get a good spark from the second hand cdi but no spark from the new ones
and the plugs are the same on them all.
Re: s.o.s help to find a compatible cdi
Found a CG125 "Race" style CDI that claims to have automatic timing advance on Ebay. Not sure how this one differs from what you've tried already but it's worth checking out.

Did you get all your others from Ebay?

Re: s.o.s help to find a compatible cdi
thanks i will try them.bought 1 of them of ebay.don`t understand why they are all different i`m ok with the mecanical side of things but just can`t get my head round this electrical problem.
Re: s.o.s help to find a compatible cdi
also if i can`t find a new cdi, would i be able to change anything on the engine to make a different one work
Re: s.o.s help to find a compatible cdi
Chasing down electrical problems is the worst. All the CG based engines should be similar, and they are very common so I'm not sure what to suggest. Have you checked the alternator output? Also, is it possible to check your current CDI on a different working motorcycle?

Re: s.o.s help to find a compatible cdi
Hi Mark,
Is the one in the picture the one that you had on it originally? It looks to me like that CDI says CG125 on it. That is a very common CDI and if the new one you have has that or FDX125 on it then you should have the right one and probably you have a different issue. By the way the FDX model usually looks exactly the same but it has the rev limiter removed.
I did have some issues with one a few years ago that had the same plug as that one but definitely was not the same CDI. Hopefully that is not your case. If you are still having trouble I can check with my CDI manufacturer when they are back to work next week, let me know.
Hope that helps.
Cheers,
Art
