I cant afford a new muffler for a while so I was wondering if I cut about 2" off the end of the muffler and put the stock chrome cover back on it, will this be OK? I just want to make it louder

Before changing my exhaust for the Xian Racing universal can I drilled some holes in the back and put the cap back on after widening the outlet in it.

It became a lot louder. I suppose you could cut the end off but you may find you have to remove a lot of the internal bits that will be left without the support provided by that back metal wall. (The one I drilled).
If it shorten the muffler and remove all the internals will it still be safe to run the engine with that limited back pressure? I did drill the holes but it didnt make too much of a difference. a little at idle but thats about it
anyone?
AF,
What are you hoping to achieve by shortening the muffler? These engine do need some backpressure in the system and if you free it up too much you may find it impossible to tune your fuel/air mixture properly.
It may be easier and cheaper to get an aftermarket.

Just wanting to make it really loud, If i cut the end off, about 2" will that hallow out the entire thing?
The stainless end cap had to be opened a bit to let out the gases from the aditional holes I made.
ok im just wanting to know if i cut off 2-4"s will i have to remove all the metal internal ribbing or will it state intact? has anyone cut these apart yet
I think most of the internal baffle system will fall out as the rear wall supports them. I think they call it "de-gutting" the system.
ok has anyone cut one apart? what about someone that already replaced the factory one can they cut it open for us
