Those horizontals, as I understand, rarely come with workshop manuals. You must rely on all kind of old "Honda's" manuals for horizontals (and not only on those, but all small displacement engines), Internet forums and above all - common sense.
what engine oil is recommended for these engines.
Almost every standard motor oil will be good. Even plain (and affordable) automobile/truck/tractor oils, those without anti-wear or some other fancy additives, would do the job. If clutch doesn't slips - this particular oil is OK for your engine. If you are looking for motorcycle oils, those who comply JASO MA or MA2 standards are OK.
In moderate climate, 10W40 or 14W40 oils are good choice, and if you are "more enthusiastic" with the throttle, summer is hot or engine runs on a high revs, but slow speeds (there is no enough air flow to cool down the engine; common occurrence on ATVs), you can use some 15W50 or 20W50 oils.
Keep the oil level close to upper mark on the dipstick and change it every... let me calculate how much hours my engine runs between two oil changes... lets say, 60 to 80 engine hours (there are some cheap electronic, easy to install, engine hour meters, so you don't have to worry about that too).
