Re: Finally Registered My Dong Fang DF250RTB Bobber In Florida
awesome!!
I think I am going to have to go through scooterdepot as well... countyimports is trying to now charge $100 more and the excuse the guy gave me was oh they are going to be flying out the door... meanwhile on their site they say they match or beat anyones prices and just yesterday they had it listed for $2195 + free shipping...
so that is a red flag for me to stay far away from them. unless they will do right and charge the proper price. I know that these bikes only cost $998 wholesale from 1-100 units so you can see they have 100% markup :P

Re: Finally Registered My Dong Fang DF250RTB Bobber In Florida
cool deal I hope they don't screw you around on the MSO like they did with barnone.
now it looks like its time to find a cheap insurer for these bikes =)
I called progressive and I don't have a vin to give them yet so they compared it to a zx250r so the quotes were:
$206 for the year basic liability
or
$700 for the year full coverage
$700 seems a little excessive for a bike that costs just over $2k... So it might not even be worth it because it would be cheaper to just buy another bike if you mangle it that bad. On the other hand you would only need 6 months of insurance up here in the north.
If you don't mind me asking how much were you guys able to insure the bike for and what Co. did you go though. The only reason I called progressive is that I used them years ago and for motorcycle insurance they were unmatched. I was getting paid out the second I wrecked a bike or when one was stolen.

So far been Ok, their telephone service sucks, expect to sit on hold 20+ minutes.
I sent them the request for the MSO and said I'd pay for the UPS 3 day. Let's see if I get a human to respond.
And BTW I'm so hooked to this site, I just responded from my blackberry

Hey congratulations Barnone, i'm delighted that it's all sorted out! For a while there it almost looked like it was all a lie about the road legality of that bike.
Still though, dealing with the fuckers does not sound like fun... China bikes are getting better, but for support they really need to pull the finger out!

felix,
I'm still concerned about the road legality of the bike because there is no way that muffler/exhaust system could have passed a EPA noise test. It's a straight through can that is so loud that it hurts my ears. I now have about 12 inches of baffle stuck up it and still it's too loud.
When I was getting the bike registered, the lady kept muttering to herself about can't find this or that and then going to talk to her supervisor. She couldn't find the manufacturer listed in her database and called someone and got it added. Said it was the first time one was registered in Florida and maybe nation wide.
I sat there squirming. There was a big scandal several years ago about screwed up registrations and cutting corners so that they stick to the book and keep looking at all the paper work. Don't screw up the paper work, if you do you are up sh*t creek without a paddle. I signed the MSO for my Pitster Pro bike in the wrong place and almost went to jail (just kidding).
BTW, I've had similar problems with local Japanese bike dealers.

as long as the tags are on the frame I am good to go. There is no inspection in New Jersey.
I may baffle it just to make my neighbors happy but then again riding in NJ I may want to keep loud
