It's not the size that makes them strong, it's the quality of the materials used. A high quality Japanese 428 O-Ring chain is probably a lot stronger than any OEM 520 chain you would get in China.

Agree with this, however, you can convert sizes to help recover some of those losses. I documented this extensively in my XTR250 thread a couple years ago. A very high quality 428...
