    @prince666, i guess the border selection could be one reason; unfortunately, by the time we got to Khorgos we had very little choice as to what other borders to try - it wasn't practical for the trip...

    thanks for the quick reply! if we come out from xinjiang to Kazakhstan, and then head south, then west through Turkey we can skip Russia. bringing the tricycle into Europe is the part that worries me...
