This is quite a good idea, but the cost is a deterrent for such a short distance trip. Loading onto a truck would be more cost effective as you say for multiple riders, and for longer trips.

You're quite likely right about the ban, but it would be nice to see some kind of evidence or documents to support this. Spoken word and hearsay means practically squat in China I'm afraid to say.
